Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is a 3D spinal deformity and mostly affects children in the age group of 10-16 years. Bracing is the most widely recommended nonoperative treatment modality for scoliosis in children. Scoliosis brace fabrication techniques have continuously evolved and currently use traditional plaster casting, computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), or 3D printing. This is a mini narrative literature review. The objective of our study is to conduct a narrative review of traditional, CAD-CAM and 3D printed brace manufacture. A narrative literature rev

BACKGROUND: Accurate mandibular reconstruction following tumor ablation is important yet challenging. While computer-assisted surgery and surgical navigation have been applied widely in maxillofacial reconstruction, the accuracy and the efficacy remain debatable due to the native mobile nature. This study aimed to evaluate the surgical outcomes and accuracy of mandibular reconstruction aided by different types of adjunctive computer-assisted techniques with or without intraoperative navigation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients with anterior and/or lateral mandibular defects who underwent microv

Prediction of immunogenicity is a substantial barrier in vaccine design. Here, a molecular dynamics approach to assessing the immunogenicity of nanoparticles based on structure is presented. Molecular properties of epitopes on nonenveloped viral particles are quantified via a set of metrics. One such metric, epitope fluctuation (and implied flexibility), is shown to be inversely correlated with immunogenicity for each of a broad spectrum of nonenveloped viruses. The molecular metrics and experimentally determined immunogenicities for these viruses are archived in the open-source vaccine comput

Hemimandibular hyperplasia is a rare type of condylar hyperplasia which leads to facial asymmetry. Its surgical correction may be challenging since it usually requires complex mandibular osteotomies. Mandibular inferior border ostectomy is poorly described in the literature. The aim of this report is to present a new surgical technique guided by a customized surgical splint manufactured using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing technology. Very good aesthetic results are achieved as it is very precise.

The computer-aided design of a nasal prosthesis based on pre-operative virtual laser scanning of the affected site was virtually adapted to the post-operative laser-scanned surface. The designed volume of the nose was rapidly prototyped and used to fabricate a provisional prosthesis and a computed tomography diagnostic template to check the available premaxilla bone for implants. The mould for the nasal prosthesis was prototyped using a computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD-CAM) procedure. In addition, the mesiostructure of an eyeglasses-supported provisional prosthesis was also designe

The rehabilitation of patient function and esthetics is essential from a social and psychological point of view. After a maxillary resection, the supporting structures that help provide retention or stability to a removable prosthesis are lacking. An effective, functional, straightforward, comfortable, and esthetic prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with a resected maxilla using a digital workflow is presented. The rehabilitation was done using a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufactured bar and clip-supported overdenture prosthesis over quad zygomatic implants.

This clinical report describes the application of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) complete dentures (CDs) in 4 visits and a 2-year follow-up period for a patient with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), severe occlusal disturbances, and parafunctional habits. The use of a Gothic arch tracing for recording the maxillomandibular relationship and verifying muscular function was particularly helpful in such a symptomatic patient. A trial period was used to determine patient acceptance and adaptation to the new CDs.
