Rediscovering the dancing semislug genus Cryptosemelus Collinge, 1902 (Eupulmonata, Ariophantidae) from Thailand with description of two new species.

Knowledge of Thai semislugs remains scarce, especially the dancing semislug genus Cryptosemelus. Prior to the present study, only a single species has been recognized with little available information. To address this knowledge gap, we surveyed for semislugs in western and southern Thailand, which yielded three species belonging to the genus Cryptosemelus. The little-known type species C.gracilis is redescribed herein, including a comparison with the type specimens. Two additional species, C.betarmon sp. nov. and C.tigrinus sp. nov., are described as new to science. All three species are chara

Dancing Improves Emotional Regulation in Women With Methamphetamine Use Disorder But Use of a Cycle Ergometer Does Not.

BACKGROUND: Emotional regulation is crucial to people who receive a diagnosis of methamphetamine (MA) use disorder. Although evidence that exercise improves emotional regulation is robust, little is known about whether exercise will improve emotional processing in women with MA use disorder. METHODS: In the present study, 36 women with MA use disorder aged 20 to 34 years and residing in the Drug Rehabilitation Bureau of Mogan Mountain in Zhejiang province were assigned to 1 of 2 exercise intervention groups-dancing or stationary cycling. Both types of exercise were performed at 65-75% of the

Effects of line dancing on physical function and perceived limitation in older adults with self-reported mobility limitations.

INTRODUCTION: Older adults with mobility limitations are at greater risk for aging-related declines in physical function. Line dancing is a popular form of exercise that can be modified, and is thus feasible for older adults with mobility limitations. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of 8 weeks of line dancing on balance, muscle strength, lower extremity function, endurance, gait speed, and perceived mobility limitations. METHODS: An experimental design randomly assigned older adults to either an 8-week line dancing or usual care group. The convenience sample cons

The Dialog of Two on the Dance of Three: Interparental Conflicts and Children Psychopathology in Chinese Families.

The opening article of this special issue presents a dialog between Dr Wai Yung Lee, an internationally acclaimed veteran family therapist currently working in Asia, and Professor Sim, this Special Edition's Associate Editor. The dialog focuses on unraveling the intricate processes of interparental conflict and child psychopathology in therapy, based on Dr Lee's work for close to three decades with nearly 100 Chinese families in Shanghai. The main themes are: interparental conflicts affects children like a "dance of three"; children's psychopathology is frequently linked to anxiety stemming fr

The nuptial dance of male mayflies helps avoid mistaken interception by other males.

Male mayflies (Ephemeroptera) engage in oscillating nuptial flight patterns in which they climb vertically before passively parachuting downward. Males hold station above an area often in large numbers, intercepting adult females passing overhead. We reconstructed the flight behaviour of common mayfly (Ephemera vulgata) aggregations in 3D, while they were performing their nuptial dance and chasing artificial targets. Male mayflies chased any object that travelled horizontally above them and attempted to mate with it. Despite this indiscriminative chasing, we observed that male mayflies rarely

Pilot evaluation of a dance-based physical activity program for adults with Down syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Adults with Down syndrome (DS) face barriers to traditional exercise modalities due in part to a lack of interest or enjoyment, desire for social connectedness during exercise, and difficulty completing traditional exercise movements because of physical limitations. Dance provides a potential alternative to conventional exercise and may address some of these barriers. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility, usability, safety, and energy expenditure of a 12-week dance-based exercise intervention in adults with DS. METHODS: Participants completed a 12-week remotel

Dance for health impact in a rural Scottish island community: understanding stakeholder experiences.

Research and practice around dance for promoting health and well-being are rapidly expanding, especially dance for chronic neurological conditions. Yet, research has primarily focused on assessing individual-level therapeutic outcomes, providing limited insight into broader stakeholder voices and community-level health impacts. In response, a longitudinal qualitative interview study was conducted to explore stakeholder perspectives on the community impact of a collaborative, community-centred dance for multiple sclerosis (MS) initiative in a rural Scottish island community. The causal dance: trimethylamine N-oxide, obesity, and acute pancreatitis in pathophysiological harmony.

Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a compound generated by the gut microbiota, may be associated with acute pancreatitis (AP). Nonetheless, the exact crosstalk mechanism remains unidentified. This study used Mendelian randomization, bioinformatics methods, and in vitro analyses to assess the causal relationship among eating behavior, TMAO, obesity, and AP. Our findings indicate that high-calorie meals elevate circulating TMAO levels, which is significantly associated with obesity risk. An in-depth examination of the GSE24883 and GSE194331 datasets indicated that TMAO-induced macrophage inflammatio

Relationship of Physical Fitness Parameters and Aesthetic Competence in Chinese Dance: A Pilot Study.

Introduction: Dance is a widely popular physical art form, with over 500,000 dancers spanning six continents. While dance demands various physical capabilities, there is currently no comprehensive data on the relationship between physical fitness and aesthetic competence in the Chinese dance style. This pilot study aimed to investigate the relationship between physical fitness parameters and aesthetic competence in Chinese dance among pre-professional dancers, addressing a gap in genre-specific research. Methods: Twenty-four dance students (21 female, 3 male) from a vocational dance conservato

"The Sulfur Dance" Around Arenes and Heteroarenes - the Reversible Nature of Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitutions.

We disclose the features of a category of reversible nucleophilic aromatic substitutions in view of their significance and generality in dynamic aromatic chemistry. Exchange of sulfur components surrounding arenes and heteroarenes may occur at 25 °C, in a process that one may call a "sulfur dance". These SNAr systems present their own features, apart from common reversible reactions utilized in dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC). By varying conditions, covalent dynamics may operate to provide libraries of thiaarenes with some selectivity, or conversion of a hexa(thio)benzene asterisk into anothe

A synthesis of the characteristics of dance interventions engaging adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities: a scoping review.

PURPOSE: Dance can encourage physical activity and promote physical, cognitive, and social development for adults who have neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDD). Dance is defined as a form of expression that may be structured, exploratory, and/or cultural. Current literature supports the benefits of participation in dance for persons with NDD, however less is known about what characteristics support participation in dance. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A scoping review was conducted to synthesize the characteristics of dance interventions, teaching strategies, and outcome measures used to assess the
