Effects of Extracellular pH on Dental Pulp Cells In Vitro.

INTRODUCTION: The proliferation and migration of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), a population comprised of dental pulp cells (DPCs), are important processes for pulp tissue repair. Dental pulp is exposed to changes in extracellular pH under various conditions, such as acidosis and exposure to caries-associated bacteria or a pulp capping agent. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of extracellular pH on DPC proliferation and migration in vitro. METHODS: To evaluate the proliferation potency of DPCs in various extracellular pH conditions, 2 × 10(4) cells were seeded into 3

Promising new dental materials on the horizon.

The rapidly evolving field of materials science is providing dentistry with new treatments and alternatives. Calcium phosphate materials are under development for bone repair and replacement, root surface desensitization, and for caries prevention, by greatly increasing the remineralizing efficiency of fluorides. Composites fabricated from calcium phosphates and polymers may have application as pulp capping and cavity-basing materials. An alternative to mercury dental amalgam is being investigated; it is composed of silver powders that are cold-welded in the presence of a dilute acid. These ma

Dentin microhardness of primary teeth undergoing partial carious removal.

AIM: To evaluate the dentin microhardness of primary teeth undergoing indirect pulp capping (IPC) after partial caries removal. MATERIALS: Primary molars were treated with IPC, restored with self-etching primer (Clearfil SE Bond; CSE), and filled with composite resin (Filtek Z250) with (n = 10) or without (n = 7) a calcium hydroxide base liner (Dycal; Dy). After tooth exfoliation, the microhardness of the demineralized dentin remaining under the restoration (n = 17) was analyzed and compared with that of sound and carious primary dentin (n = 20). Microhardness measurements were obtained from

The role of inflammation modulation in dental pulp regeneration.

A vital and healthy dental pulp (DP) is required for teeth to remain functional throughout a lifespan . Appreciating its value for the tooth, the regeneration of the DP is a highly researched goal. While inflammation of the DP marks the beginning of an eventual necrosis, it is also the prerequisite for the regenerative events of neovascularisation, stem cells mobilisation and reparative dentine deposition. In the light of a pro-regenerative inflammatory process, the present review discusses the role of macrophage population shift from pro- to anti-inflammatory in reversible versus irreversible

Comparison of the effects of different dental pulp stem cell preconditioning protocols on the odontogenic potential of their derived small extracellular vesicles.

Regenerative endodontic therapy that is based on the use of stem cells or their derivatives to induce dentin-pulp complex regeneration has recently gained substantial interest. This study aimed to compare the effect of preconditioning through odontogenesis (OD) and/or low-level laser therapy photobiostimulation (LLLT) of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) on the regenerative potentials of their derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) aiming to develop a novel pulp capping therapy. In the current study, hDPSCs were subjected to OD, LLLT, or dual preconditioning protocols before the isola

Management of a talon cusp using mineral trioxide aggregate.

AIM: To report on the successful conservative management of three patients having a talon cusp with pulpal involvement using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). SUMMARY: Mineral trioxide aggregate was used to induce hard-tissue formation following the direct pulp capping of a resected talon cusp in three cases. KEY LEARNING POINTS: • Talon cusp is an odontogenic anomaly which can cause occlusal interferences, displacement of the affected tooth, caries-susceptible developmental grooves and speech difficulties • Direct pulp capping using MTA following the resection of a talon cusp is a suitable

Generalized Non-syndromic Hypertaurodontism With Delayed Eruption: A Case Report.

Taurodontism is a rare dental anomaly defined by a change in tooth shape due to Hertwig's epithelial sheath not folding inward at the right horizontal level. It has a larger pulp chamber and a pulpal floor that is shifted apically, and the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) is not constricted. This condition is more frequently observed in permanent teeth than in primary teeth and can occur in a bilateral or unilateral manner, affecting any quadrant or group of teeth. This brief case report discusses a 14-year-old female patient who presented with complaints of decayed teeth in the lower right and le

Repair and regeneration in endodontics.

The ideal objective of treatment of established diseases, including irreversible pulpitis and apical periodontitis, is to achieve wound healing. Wound healing can result in repair or regeneration. The ultimate goal of wound healing is to restore the original architecture and biological function of the injured tissue or organ. Although humans are equipped with powerful innate and adaptive immune defence mechanisms, many intrinsic and extrinsic factors can affect wound healing. Complete regeneration following injury in humans can occur only in the pre-natal foetus within 24 weeks of gestation. P

[Biological testing of pulp-preserving agents on the pulp of rat molars].

The effects of calxyl, ZOE, zinc oxide without eugenol, and zinc oxide with an antibacterial substance (glutaraldehyde) were tested on perforated molar pulps of rats. All of the substances tested were found to lead to the same initial reactions (acute inflammation and partial necrosis). Calxyl and ZOE yielded unfavorable results. There was a negligible tendency of the pulp toward hard tissue demarcation. Zinc oxide without eugenol improved the formation by the pulp of secondary tin. - The use of glutaraldehyde resulted in a less pronounced spread of inflammation as well as in the formation of

Vital Pulp Therapy in Cats: 47 Cases (2009-2025).

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) is a dental procedure aimed at preserving tooth vitality after pulp exposure by removing part of the exposed coronal pulp and placing a protective pulp dressing material directly over the remaining pulp, followed by a tightly sealed restoration to prevent bacterial leakage at the restoration-dentin interface. Indications include recent complicated crown fracture (CCF) or traumatic malocclusion in mature, as well as immature, permanent teeth. This retrospective study evaluated the outcome of 47 teeth in 36 cats treated with VPT at a referral clinic between 2009 and 2025

Present status and future directions-Vital pulp treatment and pulp preservation strategies.

Therapeutic strategies focussed on the pulp preservation, are important when managing vital teeth with deep caries and an exposed pulp. These vital pulp treatments (VPTs); however, are not new, with indirect and direct pulp capping procedures being described as a therapy for carious teeth for over a century. As a result of unpredictable outcomes, the traditional indications for VPT particularly when the pulp was exposed were limited to the treatment of immature teeth with incomplete root formation. Over the last 20 years, the advent of regenerative endodontics and the promotion of biologically
