Background Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a common developmental enamel defect affecting the first permanent molars and incisors. It presents a range of clinical challenges, including hypersensitivity, enamel breakdown, and an increased risk of caries. In recent years, MIH has gained attention as a research topic, covering various aspects such as epidemiology, risk factors, impact on quality of life, and prevention and treatment guidelines. However, the epidemiology of MIH in Vietnam, particularly in the Southwest region, remains under-researched, with limited comprehensive studies.

Today, and looking to the future, scientific discoveries from cellular, developmental and molecular biology inform our understanding of cell, tissue and organ morphogenesis as exemplified in skin, bone, cartilage, dentine, enamel, muscle, nerve and many organs such as salivary glands and teeth. Present day biomedical science yields principles for the biomimetic design and fabrication of cells, tissues and organs. Bioengineering has become a strategy that can 'mimic' biological processes, and inform clinical procedures for tissue and organ replacements. The future of regenerative craniofacial b

PURPOSE: Organ transplantation is an effective treatment for children with severe heart, liver, and kidney diseases. These patient groups may have more oral and dental diseases than healthy controls. It is important to eliminate oral infection foci before transplantation and to maintain good oral health to avoid potential post-transplant complications. The aim of this study was to describe and compare oral health in Finnish paediatric heart, liver, and kidney transplant recipients prior to organ transplantation.
METHODS: Eighty-six children who received a heart (n = 21), liver (n = 19), or ki

Although several studies have proven that cystic fibrosis (CF) does have a definite impact on oral and dental health, others have demonstrated that it does not. Here, we evaluated children with CF in the Egyptian population based on dental indices, salivary biochemical markers, and lifestyle factors, including diet/medications, in addition to routine bacteriological assays of plaque and caries specimens. Thirty-three children were classified into two groups: CF children (n = 18) and non-CF children (n = 15). Dental indices included DMFT and dmft indices to assess caries prevalence, plaque inde

OBJECTIVES: Cystic fibrosis is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, mainly affecting the respiratory and digestive systems. Advances in diagnosis and treatment have increased life expectancy, making cystic fibrosis a chronic condition requiring long-term multidisciplinary care. Consequently, oral health has gained importance, as disease manifestations and prolonged therapies may influence the oral cavity and dental management. This review aimed to analyse the available scientific evidence regarding the impact of cystic fibrosis on oral health and dental treatmen

Four new patients with oculodentodigital dysplasia (ODD) have been examined. The salient and fairly constant features of ODD appear to be (1) unique facial appearance, (2) microcornea with other inconstant ocular findings, (3) syndactyly of the hands with additional characteristic phalangeal aberrations, (4) diffuse skeletal dysplasia, (5) enamel dysplasia, and (6) trichosis. Echographic studies indicate that ODD globes have microcornea with otherwise normal dimensions. An increased number of vessels crossing the optic discs was observed in three patients from one family. The distance between

BACKGROUND: Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) is a common developmental defect of enamel (DDE) seen in children. In Malaysia, dental therapists (DTs) are favourably positioned as front-liners to identify children with MIH due to their involvement with the school dental service. However, MIH is often misdiagnosed and referred to dentists in an untimely manner.
AIM: To assess awareness about MIH and aspects of continuing education, perception towards MIH, and confidence in early detection of and intervention for MIH among Malaysian DTs.
DESIGN: A cross-sectional study using a self-adminis

INTRODUCTION: Odontomas constitute a developmental defect of hard dental tissues and are classified as benign odontogenic tumours. They are composed of all dental structures and tissues: enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. As regards histomorphological features, two types of odontomas have been differentiated: complex and compound. Odontomas represent from 4.7% to 76% of odontogenic tumours. Their aetiology has not been fully understood, yet injury, infection and genetic factors are often named among the causes. Odontomas are usually detected by chance in radiographic images taken in relation t
