Anisotropic Elasticity, Spin-Orbit Coupling, and Topological Properties of ZrTe2 and NiTe2: A Comparative Study for Spintronic and Nanoscale Applications.

The present work investigates the interfacial and atomic layer-dependent mechanical properties, SOC-entailing phonon band structure, and comprehensive electron-topological-elastic integration of ZrTe2 and NiTe2. The anisotropy of Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, and shear modulus are analyzed using density functional theory with the TB-mBJ approximation. NiTe2 has higher mechanical property values and greater anisotropy than ZrTe2. Phonon dispersion analysis with SOC effects predicts the dynamic stability of both compounds. Thus, the current research unifies electronic band structure analysis

Rabbit cortical bone tissue increases its elastic stiffness but becomes less viscoelastic with age.

Bone is dynamic tissue undergoing changes in its composition, structure and functional properties during growth. It has been proposed that especially changes in the collagen phase of bone are responsible for making the bone more fragile, and potentially less viscoelastic with age. Hence, robust methods to measure viscoelasticitiy are needed. This study aimed to characterize the development of the elastic and viscoelastic mechanical properties of rabbit bone during maturation and growth, as assessed by nanoindentation. The humeri from female New Zealand white rabbits of varying age (newborn, 11

Establishing an Elastography calibration standard: Validation of a shear wave TOF device for measuring Elasticity and Viscosity in tissue-mimicking phantoms using rheometry.

This study designed a novel shear wave Time of Flight (TOF) device to measure frequency-dependent shear wave velocity in tissue-mimicking materials, from which viscoelastic parameters were estimated through Kelvin-Voigt fractional derivative modeling to establish a reliable calibration standard. Tissue-mimicking phantoms were fabricated using 10 wt% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and 2 wt% α-alumina powder, with mechanical properties modulated through freeze-thaw cycling. Bimorph transducers operating in the 40-180 Hz range induced and captured shear waves. A single-cycle sine wave excitation ensures

Mechanical Properties of Inflamed Appendix Tissues.

Background/Objectives: Histopathological examination enables visualization of morphological changes in cells and tissues. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in assessing the mechanical properties of tissues that cannot be determined by standard histopathological examinations. Mechanobiology is crucial in human physiology and holds promise for uncovering new diagnostic markers for disease processes such as carcinogenesis and inflammation. In this study, we concentrated on measuring the mechanical properties of appendix biopsy specimens to identify potential mechanomarkers of in

Effect of mineral diets on the development of cartilage material properties.

Vitamin D and minerals, including zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn), are vital in the development of bones, but their roles in the development of articular cartilage material behavior are not well understood. In this study, articular cartilage material properties from a hypovitaminosis D porcine model were evaluated. Pigs were produced by sows fed vitamin D deficient diets during gestation and lactation, and the offspring were subsequently fed vitamin D deficient diets for 3 weeks during the nursery period. Pigs were then assigned to dietary treatment groups with inorganic minerals only or inorgani

Adsorption stress changes the elasticity of liquid argon confined in a nanopore.

Knowledge of the elastic properties of a fluid is crucial for predicting its flow under high pressure, particularly in porous media. However, when a fluid is confined to a nanopore, many of its thermodynamic properties change as compared to bulk. Here we study the effect of confinement on the bulk modulus of liquid argon adsorbed in mesopores using classical density functional theory. We show that, at pressures lower than the saturation pressure, high adsorption stress in the pore causes the lowering of the fluid bulk modulus, a phenomenon which was recently observed experimentally [ Schappert

Research on Dynamic Characteristics and Modulus Attenuation Evolution of Rubber Particle Loess.

Loess in seasonally frozen regions is prone to water-induced softening and dynamic instability, posing severe challenges for geotechnical engineering. Rubber particles, as sustainable waste-tire-derived material, offer potential for loess improvement. This study aims to elucidate the dynamic characteristics and modulus attenuation evolution of rubber particle-loess mixtures under multi-factor coupling effects. Dynamic triaxial tests were conducted to investigate the influences of rubber content, particle size, moisture content, and freeze-thaw cycles. Results reveal that the optimal mix is 5%

Effect of elevated beverage temperatures on the physical and mechanical properties of invisalign clear aligners: an in-vitro simulation study.

Although guidelines recommend removing aligners before eating, many patients wear them while consuming food or beverages. Understanding the response of a material to high temperatures is crucial for predicting treatment outcomes. This study aimed to assess the effects of elevated beverage temperatures on the physical and mechanical properties of Invisalign clear aligners. Sixty Invisalign aligner specimens were thermocycled and divided into four groups. The specimens in the first and second groups were immersed in coffee and tea at 57 °C, respectively, whereas the third and fourth groups consi

The human erythrocyte membrane skeleton may be an ionic gel. III. Micropipette aspiration of unswollen erythrocytes.

We have carried out a theoretical analysis of micropipette aspiration of unswollen erythrocytes using the protein-gel-lipid-bilayer membrane model and taking into account that the modulus of area compression of the membrane skeleton may depend on the environmental conditions. Our analysis shows that the aspiration pressure needed to obtain a certain membrane projection length is strongly dependent on the ratio between the membrane skeleton modulus of area compression and the elastic shear modulus. Our analysis therefore predicts that micropipette aspiration of unswollen erythrocytes may be a s

Assessment of the uncertainty of shear wave speed measurements in ultrasound elastography.

Accurate measurement of tissue mechanical properties is crucial for diagnosing and characterising various pathological conditions. Among these properties, shear wave speed (SWS) is an indicator of tissue stiffness and has been widely studied across multiple imaging modalities. Despite its advantages, the quantification of SWS is subject to various sources of uncertainty, which can impact its clinical and research applications. The uncertainty of SWS measurements based on acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) technology implemented using a research ultrasound system is investigated in this st

Quantitative Assessment of Biomechanical Properties of the Human Keratoconus Cornea Using Acoustic Radiation Force Optical Coherence Elastography.

PURPOSE: Quantification of biomechanical properties of keratoconus (KC) corneas has great significance for early diagnosis and treatment of KC, but the corresponding clinical measurement remains challenging. Here, we developed an acoustic radiation force (ARF) optical coherence elastography technique and explored its potential for evaluating biomechanical properties of KC corneas. METHODS: An ARF system was used to induce the tissue deformation, which was detected by an optical coherence tomography system, and thus the localized point-by-point Young's modulus measurements were achieved. Then,
