Agger nasi cells contribute to nasofrontal duct (NFD) obstruction and chronic frontal sinus disease. To investigate this relationship, we conducted a review of the surgical outcome and computed tomographic imaging in 26 patients with chronic frontal sinusitis. Coronal and sagittal images were used to delineate the anatomic variability and mucosal disease in the NFD and frontal sinus region. Data from coronal and sagittal images were compared. The results were also correlated with the outcome of frontal sinus surgery in patients with a clinical history of chronic frontal sinus disease. Our data

Using percutaneous endoscopic surgery, we achieved good results in patients with frontal sinus cyst. The surgical procedure is described and discussed. The endoscopic system consisted of a needle-shaped rigid fiberscope (direct-vision and angle-vision types [30 degrees, 90 degrees]) 1.7 mm in diameter with a light source. A small incision was made at the eyebrow, the sinus was cleaned, and an opposite hole was made through the existing wound. This procedure permitted less invasive surgery under direct view of the surgical field compared with conventional percutaneous transnasal frontal sinus p

Chronic frontal sinusitis in 12 dairy cattle most often was associated with a history of dehorning, in which the sinus was entered (67%), or with respiratory tract disease (25%). The most common organisms isolated were Actinomyces pyogenes and Pasteurella multocida. Signs of infection did not develop for months in some cattle and were often intermittent. The most common clinical signs included anorexia, lethargy, fever, frontal bone distortion, exophthalmos, abnormal posture, nasal discharge, and neurologic abnormalities. Treatment consisted of trephination at 2 sites, drainage and lavage of t

The anatomical relationships of the frontal and nasoethmoid region are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the nasofrontal drainage system. A case report is presented in which obstruction of the nasofrontal duct created a delayed frontal sinusitis in a patient with severe midfacial trauma. A brief review of the different conditions that can appear as periorbital inflammation in the posttraumatic period is given, followed by a brief discussion of the various therapeutic alternatives available to the surgeon when presented with this situation.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The paranasal sinuses are a group of four paired air-filled spaces located within the bony skull; maxillary, frontal, sphenoid, and ethmoid sinuses. Paranasal sinuses aplasia is a rare condition that is mainly confined to the frontal sinus unilaterally. Combined aplasia of multiple sinuses along with hypoplasia of other sinuses is extremely rare. This rare case should be considered in mind before scheduling any endoscopic sinus surgery to prevent complications during these surgeries.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 13-year-old male patient presented to our ENT clinic complai

BACKGROUND: Frontal sinuses within the frontal bone can be a potential obstacle in neurosurgical approach in this region. Their unintended opening during craniotomy is not beneficial due to the risk of brain infections by bacteria inhabiting the sinus mucosa. Therefore, such opening should be avoided whenever the surgical procedure does not involve the sinus itself. The aim of the study was the morphometric analysis of the frontal sinuses based on computed tomography imaging.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The width, height, projection surface area and location of the highest and most lateral points

INTRODUCTION: Frontal sinusitis in the pediatric population is a disease that has not been thoroughly studied or characterized. The goals of this study are to characterize the clinical presentation, radiologic variables, treatment modalities, complications, and prognosis associated with acute and chronic frontal sinus disease in the pediatric population.
METHODS: IRB-approved retrospective cohort study of pediatric patients who were diagnosed with acute (AFS) or chronic frontal sinusitis (CFS) and underwent frontal sinus surgery at a tertiary level Children's Hospital from 2006 to 2016. Patie

OBJECTIVE: We report a rare case of new bone formation (osteogenesis) within an inverted papilloma, occurring in the ethmoid and frontal sinuses.
METHOD: The histopathological and radiological findings, differential diagnosis, and treatment of tumour-induced osteogenesis are discussed.
RESULTS: A 68-year-old man complained of headache and left-sided, purulent rhinorrhoea of five years' duration. On nasal endoscopy, lesions similar to inflammatory nasal polyps were seen. Pre-operative radiological images demonstrated opacification of the left nasal cavity and anterior ethmoid and frontal sinu

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The crista galli is part of the ethmoid bone and, as such, it could be expected that aeration of the crista would come from ethmoid cells. After observing crista pneumatization from the frontal sinuses in several cases, we undertook this study to establish how often crista galli pneumatization came from the frontal sinuses rather than from the ethmoid complex.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two hundred consecutive CT scans of the paranasal sinuses were studied in adult patients to obtain the incidence of crista galli pneumatization and the cell of origin for this phenomenon. A

Osteomas are the most common benign tumors of the paranasal sinuses. They may be seen at all ages and show a male preponderance. A 54-year-old male patient presented with a complaint of nasal obstruction. Computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses showed three osteomas, nearly 5 mm in size, in both ethmoid sinuses and the right frontal sinus. Inquiry into the Gardner's syndrome was negative. No surgical treatment was performed at the patient's discretion. To our knowledge, the presence of multiple osteomas in the frontal and ethmoid sinuses has not been reported in the English literature.

Enlargement of paranasal sinuses with air is rare with less than 50 cases reported in the medical literature. This craniofacial malformation was first described by Meyes in 1898 and its aetiology still remains unknown. Local pain, ocular alterations, anosmia, headache and cosmetic disturbances are the most common symptoms. We present a case of pneumosinus dilatans diagnosed in a male, 8 years of age. He presented with left fronto-orbital bossing that enlarged slowly until he was 12 years old, at which point its growth appeared to increase dramatically. Computerized tomography revealed an enlar

The authors report on their experience with the trans-sinusal frontal approach in removing olfactory groove meningiomas. Six tumors were operated on by the trans-sinusal frontal approach, using a bicoronal incision; two tumors developed on one side, and there were four bilateral olfactosellar tumors. Osteotomy of the anterior wall of the frontal sinus was performed with an oscillating saw without any burr hole. The posterior wall of the sinus was resected and the tumor was attacked through a real subfrontal route along the plane of the anterior skull base. Ethmoidal blood supply was controlled

The uniqueness of anatomical structures and their variations provides the basis for forensic identification of unknown deceased persons. Similar to fingerprints, each frontal sinus is so distinctive and unique that the chances of two individuals having the same morphology of the frontal sinuses is extremely remote. Radiographs, especially the occipitomental view commonly used in the assessment of paranasal pathology, provide excellent records of these sinuses. The case illustrated here is an application of the frontal sinus identification of a victim in a mass disaster.

A total of 63 cases of exudative frontitis were treated using probing and draining in an ENT department of a hospital from 1986 to 1998. 40 patients were males, 23 were females. The age ranged from 15 to 79 years. 43 patients had acute frontitis, 20 patients suffered of chronic frontitis. Probing and draining of the sinus was made with application of standard cannulas. Probing was unsuccessful in 8 patients. Later, they have undergone radical surgery on the frontal sinuses or trephine puncture (2 and 6 patients, respectively). 23 patients who discharged pus and mucus after the initial probing

The authors describe the technique of extended trepanopuncture of the frontal sinuses and relevant equipment (updated trephine, 4.2 mm wide-lumen drainage cannula, double-lumen attachment for it). The procedure enabled performing endoscopical review of the frontal sinus cavity, biopsies and minor operations through the lumen of the drainage cannula. The double-lumen attachment served for lavage of the frontal sinuses in the frontonasal obstruction.
