BACKGROUND: Foot drop (FD) is characterized by an inability to lift the foot against gravity because of dorsiflexor muscle weakness. The aim of the present study is to report a clinical case of acute non-traumatic FD in patients with peroneal intraneural ganglion, after performing a scoping review on the methodological management of this disease.
METHODS: We performed a review of the literature and reported the case of a 49-year-old man with acute FD caused by an intraneural ganglion cyst of the peroneal nerve.
RESULTS: Out of a total of 201 articles, 3 were suitable for our review beyond ou

Ganglion cysts are relatively common, but intraneural ganglion cysts (INGCs) within peripheral nerves are rare and poorly understood. We present the case of a 58-year-old woman who presented with acute right-foot drop. She experienced acute knee pain radiating from the lateral leg to the dorsal foot two days after the first coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) vaccination (BNT162b2, Pfizer-BioNTech). She had no history of trauma or medication use. Two weeks after the onset of symptoms, she developed a dorsiflexor weakness of the right foot (Medical Research Council grade, poor). The weakness wors

OBJECTIVES: Arthroscopic excision of dorsal wrist ganglion (DWG) cysts has recently become an alternative to open surgery, with the advantage of lower recurrence. However, in recurrent cases, whether re-excision using an arthroscopic approach would achieve favorable outcomes has not been determined. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of function evaluation and recurrence rate after arthroscopic excision of recurrent DWG cysts.
METHODS: A total of 11 consecutive patients with clinically diagnosed recurrent DWG cysts were retrospectively reviewed between November 2017 and March

BACKGROUND: The advancement of high-resolution imaging and increased clinical experience have led to an increased understanding of the formation and treatment of intraneural ganglion cysts. Nearly all intraneural ganglion cysts in the common peroneal nerve have been reported to arise from a joint connection to the superior tibiofibular joint. The authors have identified four cases of intraneural ganglion cysts arising from the knee joint itself; however, none of these reported cases were well described, documented, or illustrated with high-resolution imaging.
OBSERVATIONS: Here the authors pr

OBJECTIVES: Intraneural ganglia are benign fluid-filled cysts contained within the subepineurial space of peripheral nerves. The common peroneal nerve at the fibular neck is by far the most frequently involved, although other nerves can be affected as well. Although the differential diagnosis of foot drop in adults and children show some differences, clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, treatment and follow-up of intraneural ganglia are quite similar in both groups. The primary objective was to create an overview of intraneural ganglia in children, with an emphasis on diagnostic workup an

This case report describes a 43-year-old woman with a previous anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and medial meniscectomy who presented with right knee dysesthesias radiating into her medial ankle with associated allodynia. An extensive work-up was pursued, without a definitive diagnosis found or improvement in the patient's symptoms. Eventually, she was referred to Pain Medicine for an ultrasound-guided saphenous nerve (SN) block, where a scan before the injection revealed a large cyst anteromedial to the sartorius in the expected location of the SN. Magnetic resonance imaging and surg

An unusual case of pain and weakness in the hand and forearm due to a ganglion cyst of the ulnar nerve at the elbow is presented. The patient was managed initially as a case of cervical disc disease and cervical spondylosis and later as a case of carpal tunnel syndrome at an another institution. Cervical radiography and cervical magnetic resonance imaging scans were inconclusive. Neurosurgical referral revealed tenderness at the right cubital tunnel, weakness of the right hand and forearm muscles, and sensory deficit along the medial border of the forearm and the hand. The diagnosis of ulnar n

INTRODUCTION: Ganglion cysts of the tibialis anterior tendon (ATT) are exceedingly rare. We report a case of a giant ATT ganglion cyst associated with adult-acquired flatfoot deformity and underlying degenerative tendinopathy and describe a systematic multimodal surgical technique for its management.
CASE REPORT: A 55-year-old male construction worker presented with a 4-month history of a progressively enlarging left ankle swelling that prevented him from wearing protective footwear. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a lobulated cyst measuring 4.4 × 3.9 × 11.7 cm with internal sep

INTRODUCTION AND SIGNIFICANCE: Ganglion cysts in the thigh area are uncommon, typically occurring in the wrist and ankle. These cysts are usually painless but may compress nearby structures, causing discomfort. Ultrasound is a valuable tool to differentiate ganglion cysts from hematomas and lipomas. It also helps identify the fluid-filled cyst walls. Treatment typically involves surgical removal, with complete resection being the goal.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a woman who experienced a gradual increase in size of a lump in her groin area. The lump was later diagnosed and comple

BACKGROUND: Although various treatment options are available for spinoglenoid cyst, including conservative and surgical methods, there is no standard guideline for its surgical decompression. Thus, the purpose of the study was to correlate the size of the spinoglenoid notch ganglion cyst (GC) as revealed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with electrophysiological alterations, muscle power, and pain severity, and to estimate a cut-off value of cyst size to perform a decompression.
METHODS: Between January 2010 and January 2018, the patients with a GC at the spinoglenoid notch diagnosed on MR

Ganglion cysts are masses that we encounter frequently in our daily practice, usually in the upper extremity, less frequently in the lower extremities, and rarely cause compression symptoms. We present a case of a massive ganglion cyst of the lower limb causing peroneal nerve compression, managed with excision and proximal tibiofibular joint arthrodesis to prevent recurrence. Examination and radiological imaging of a 45-year-old female patient who was admitted to our clinic showed new-onset weakness in right foot movements and numbness on the dorsum of the foot and lateral cruris, a mass consi

BACKGROUND: One of the causes of foot drop is compression of the common peroneal nerve caused by space-occupying lesions such as a synovial cyst or a ganglion cyst. Most previous reports have involved compressive common peroneal neuropathy by intraneural ganglion cysts and synovial cysts. Compression of the peroneal nerve by extraneural ganglion cysts is rare. We report a rare case of compressive common peroneal neuropathy by an extraneural ganglion cyst.
CASE SUMMARY: A 46-year-old man was hospitalized after he reported a right foot drop for 1 mo. Manual muscle testing revealed scores of 1/5

Bone lesion of the proximal tibia are common findings; depending on the site, age of the patient and symptoms a carefull differential diagnosis must be carried out. We present the case of a 60 years old active patient presenting at our clinic with atraumatic knee pain. X-Rays performed revealed an osteolitic lesion of the medial tibial condyle; MRI highlighted a lobulated cystic lesion of the medial tibial condyle without evidence of interruption of the suchondral bone. The cavity appeared with low signal intensity on T1 weighted images and with a high signal intensity on T2 images The tis

Introduction Ganglion cysts are the most common soft tissue masses seen on the wrist, which often cause pain or cosmetic complaints. The treatment of these masses includes intra-cystic injections or surgery. Recurrence rates are very high in surgical or non-surgical treatment. Inadequate excision for recurrence after surgery is blamed; however, the reasons for the recurrence still remain mysterious. Objectives In this study, the effect of anesthesia selection and tourniquet use on the dorsal wrist ganglion cysts in open surgery was investigated. Materials and methods Patients with dorsal wrist

In this article, two cases of ulnar nerve neuropathy in Guyon's canal caused by a ganglion cyst are reported. A review of the literature found 73 cases reported in 35 articles of ulnar neuropathy at the wrist secondary to a ganglion cyst. We investigated the pathogenesis of ganglion cysts, which are separated as extraneural and intraneural. At this anatomical area, there are a variety of clinical factors that can also lead to ulnar nerve compression such us trauma, fracture of the hamate's hook, arterial thrombosis, tumors and other anatomical variations. The symptoms may include weakness, par

The intraosseous ganglion cyst (IOGC) is a benign and lytic bone tumor affecting mostly the metaphyseal and epiphyseal regions of long bones. Its location on the short bones, including the carpal bones has been little reported in the literature. Our review of the literature shows consensus about the surgical techniques to use, but there is currently no real consensus about its pathophysiology, and its diagnostic work-up. Complications related to this lesion (mainly the risk of pathologic fracture) are potentially serious, and can cause irreversible damage. They therefore require accurate asses
