Extreme Airway Difficulty During EXIT in Severe Fetal Agnathia: Failed Conventional Intubation and Successful Emergency Tracheostomy-A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Severe mandibular hypoplasia, particularly agnathia, is a rare congenital condition that may cause critical neonatal airway obstruction. The Ex Utero Intrapartum Treatment (EXIT) procedure allows airway control while maintaining uteroplacental circulation; overall airway establishment success rates for EXIT exceed 90%, yet conventional endotracheal intubation fails in a meaningful subset of cases with extreme anatomic distortion, necessitating surgical airway access. In the most severe forms of agnathia, primary tracheostomy under placental support may represent the most appropriat

Prenatal sonographic features of triploidy at 12-16 weeks.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our study was to describe the sonographic appearance of triploidy in early pregnancy. METHODS: We report the sonographic characteristics of a cohort of fetal triploid cases detected at targeted ultrasonographic vaginal examinations between 12 and 16 weeks of gestation from 2008 to 2014. Indications for fetal karyotype following ultrasound were maternal request, advanced maternal age, increased nuchal translucency, and/or fetal abnormalities. RESULTS: Triploidy was detected in 25 cases during the 6 years of the study period with an estimated incidence of ~1 in 5000 p

[Clinical phenotype and genotypic analysis of a four-generation Chinese pedigree affected with Stickler syndrome and a literature review].

OBJECTIVE: To carry out genetic testing and clinical phenotypic characterization on a four-generation Chinese pedigree affected with Stickler syndrome type I and explore its genotype-phenotype correlation. METHODS: A child presented at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in February 2023 for micrognathia, glossoptosis and cleft palate and his family members were selected as the study subjects. Clinical data were collected from the affected members, and peripheral blood samples were obtained from 17 participants (including 4 patients and 13 as

Fluoroscopic-Assisted Tongue Suspension: Advancement and Innovation in the Management of Complex Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

OBJECTIVES: The primary aim of this study is to describe a novel surgical technique developed for tongue base suspension (TBS). The second aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of the developed procedure by quantifying preoperative and postoperative polysomnographic outcomes for pediatric patients undergoing fluoroscopic-assisted tongue suspension (FATS) with the Encore System. Our hypothesis is that our FATS technique will provide at least a 50% reduction in the Apnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI), including in the medically complex pediatric population. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case series.

Rare Diseases of the Orbit.

This article provides an overview of rare orbital diseases. Congenital malformations, inflammatory diseases, benign and malignant neoplasias are described. Although it represents a relatively small area of the body the orbit contains multiple different tissues. Therefore, a great variety of diseases can be found within the orbital space. That is the reason, why both the completeness and the level of detail in the description of particular diseases must be somewhat limited. Nevertheless, clinical manifestations, important aspects of diagnosis, treatment strategies, and, when specific data are a
