Assessment of organs-at-risk contouring practices in radiosurgery institutions around the world - The first initiative of the OAR Standardization Working Group.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This study was an initiative of the Organs-at-Risk Standardization Working Group for evaluating the current degree of variability in the clinical practice of contouring organs-at-risk (OAR) for radiosurgery planning. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Imaging datasets for typical lesions (cavernous sinus meningioma, vestibular schwannoma, pituitary adenoma) treated with Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion were circulated to 12 centers. Observers were asked to contour the target and OARs as per their standard clinical practice. The analyzed parameters were the intersection (AV100), union

A focus group study of healthy eating knowledge, practices, and barriers among adult and adolescent immigrants and refugees in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Immigrants and refugees to the United States exhibit lower dietary quality than the general population, but reasons for this disparity are poorly understood. In this study, we describe the meanings of food, health and wellbeing through the reported dietary preferences, beliefs, and practices of adults and adolescents from four immigrant and refugee communities in the Midwestern United States. METHODS: Using a community based participatory research approach, we conducted a qualitative research study with 16 audio-recorded focus groups with adults and adolescents who self-identified

To feed or not to feed? Case presentation and best practice guidance for human milk feeding and group B streptococcus in developed countries.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is the most frequent cause of neonatal invasive disease. Two forms of GBS are recognized: early-onset and late-onset disease. The average incidence of late-onset disease is 0.24 per 1000, a figure that has remained substantially unchanged over time. Exposure to breast milk represents a potential source of infection, especially in late-onset and/or recurrent GBS disease. As a result, both breastfeeding and the use of breast milk have been questioned. We report for the first time the case of both simultaneous and recurrent infection in newborn preterm twins, born 3 we

[Inadequate feeding practices between month 4 and 6 and its association with nutritional deficit in a group of Venezuelan lactating infants].

Adequate practices in food consumption are fundamental for child health, nutrition and growth. In order to detect associations between the inadequate practice of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF), predominant and/or complimentary in the first 4 to 6 months of life, and deficiencies in growth and malnutrition, 240 lactating infants younger than 24 months were evaluated in a low income urban area in the city of Valencia, Venezuela (2006). For the practice of breastfeeding, two groups were identified: children who received EBF in that period of time, and those who did not receive it (No EBF). Z score

Good Clinical Practices for the Management of Post-Stroke Spasticity with BoNT-A: A Delphi-Based Approach from the Italian Expert Group.

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke spasticity (PSS) is a common complication in stroke survivors, significantly impairing functional recovery and quality of life. Despite its prevalence, Italy lacks national guidelines or structured good clinical practice documents, resulting in heterogeneous clinical management. METHODS: An Italian Delphi study was conducted to establish expert-based recommendations for PSS management. A panel of 93 rehabilitation medicine specialists and neurologists, each with over 5 years of experience in PSS management with botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A), participated in two rounds of

Screening practices for diabetic peripheral neuropathy in pediatric type 1 diabetes: a nationwide survey by the ISPED Diabetes Study Group.

AIMS: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DN) is a major complication of type 1 diabetes (T1D), frequently subclinical in youth. Although international pediatric guidelines recommend annual screening, adherence in pediatric care is uncertain. This study aimed to assess DN screening practices in Italian pediatric diabetes centers and identify barriers to implementation. METHODS: Between December 2024 and May 2025, we conducted a nationwide, cross-sectional survey among Italian centers affiliated with the ISPED Diabetes Study Group. One respondent per center completed a 27-item questionnaire explor

The State of Pathology Student Interest Groups in Allopathic and Osteopathic Medical Schools in the United States: Current Practices and Opportunities for Improvement.

CONTEXT.—: With the gradual decline in pathology residency applicants during the past few decades, the successful recruitment of quality medical students into the field will rely on a multidimensional approach. One of the means by which medical students are exposed to and recruited into the field of pathology is through student interest groups (SIGs). Though SIGs have been cited as a successful method for recruitment, the strategies for running a successful SIG have not been fully explored. OBJECTIVE.—: To assess the functioning of pathology SIGs and provide a cross-sectional analysis of the

Perceived barriers to implementation of biosecurity best management practices for control of Salmonella Dublin on dairy farms: A focus group study.

Salmonella Dublin is an emerging pathogen on Canadian dairy farms, making biosecurity practices crucial. However, the barriers to implementing biosecurity best management practices (BBMP) to control Salmonella Dublin (e.g., track herd health status, proactive response to disease risks, limit animal purchases, routine facility disinfection, control visitor access) are unknown. The objectives of this study were to understand dairy farmers' awareness, perceptions, and barriers to implementation of established BBMP for control of Salmonella Dublin. In total, 28 dairy farmers participated in 5 focu

Vaginal Foreign Bodies in the Pediatric and Adolescent Age Group: A Review of Current Literature and Discussion of Best Practices in Diagnosis and Management.

The self-insertion of a vaginal foreign body (VFB) is common in the female pediatric and adolescent age group. Prompt disclosure to parents usually results in a call to the primary care provider and a visit to the pediatrician's office, local emergency department, or urgent care center. However, some foreign bodies may go unnoticed for extended periods, causing distressing symptoms and complications. Large case series providing comprehensive epidemiological data on this topic are scarce. This review summarizes the current literature on VFBs and compiles best practices for the diagnosis and man

Postpartum Breastfeeding Practices and Attitudes in Parents: A Randomized Study to Evaluate the Effects of Individual and Group Breastfeeding Education of Mothers and Fathers.

Background Antenatal breastfeeding training is defined as the provision of breastfeeding information during pregnancy, which can be given in various ways, such as individual training and group training. The inclusion of fathers in this educational approach is associated with the initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding and duration of breastfeeding. However, studies involving fathers are limited. This randomized controlled study aimed to compare the effects of individual and group training given to parents and those of normal hospital practices on mothers' breastfeeding self-effica

"She'll Be Right, Mate": A Mixed Methods Analysis of Skin Cancer Prevention Practices among Australian Farmers-An At-Risk Group.

This study examined Australian farmers' engagement with skin cancer prevention behaviours and explored what made it hard for them to be 'SunSmart' (barriers), and what could be done to make prevention easier (facilitators). In total, 498 farmers (83.1% male, 22-89 years, 50.8% grain, sheep, or cattle farmers) participated. The least frequently performed SunSmart behaviours (reported as never practiced during summer) were using SPF 30+ sunscreen (16.6%), wearing protective sunglasses (10.5%), and wearing protective clothing (8.6%). Greater engagement (i.e., higher scores on scale from Never to

Reasons for visiting Polish primary care practices by patients aged 18-44 years: the largest emigrating age group.

Over 3% of the entire Polish population migrate for a job within the European Union, most are aged 18-44 years. The main destinations are Germany, the United Kingdom and Ireland. Immigration is connected with the use of many public services, including healthcare services. Assuming Polish immigrants require medical consultations in the countries they reside in, the authors have analysed the reasons for patients' visits to general practitioners (GPs) in Poland in order to predict possible reasons why Polish patients living abroad may make appointments with GPs in other countries. Data from 22,76

Somatic and germline genetic testing pathways in haematological malignancies: Best practice consensus guidelines from the 2025 national meeting organised by UK Cancer Genetics Group (UKCGG), CanGene-CanVar and the NHS England Haematological Oncology Working Group.

Genomic technologies including next-generation sequencing (NGS) and arrays for cytogenetic anomalies are now standard of care in England for the diagnostic evaluation of patients with suspected haematological malignancies. Challenges remain in the management of potential germline findings as a result of NGS panels and copy number variant analyses in haemato-oncology pathways. The first national consensus meeting in April 2022 organised by the UK Cancer Genetics Group (UKCGGG), in collaboration with the CanGene-CanVar research programme and the NHS England haemato-oncology working group led to
