The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of hypodontia, hyperodontia, and double formation of primary teeth in Icelandic children in the dental stage DS 02 (primary dentition complete). The study group comprised 927 children (498 boys and 429 girls). This was about 9% of all children aged 0-83 months in Reykjavik at the time of the registration of these anomalies, during the winter of 1978-1979. OBJECTIVE: Prevalence of hypertension, which is the most common risk factor for cardiovascular disease in elderly people, increases with age. The aim of the study was to investigate the association between diet and blood pressure in elderly Icelanders, with focus on cod liver oil, and to compare their diet to dietary guidelines.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Diet was assessed using three-day weighed food records and blood pressure was measured after a 12-hour-fast in 236, 65-91 years old, Icelanders living in the capital area of Iceland. 99 men (42%) and 137 women (58%) participated in the study.

This paper reports the 12-month follow-up results regarding a program designed to prevent the initial episode of depression and/or dysthymia among Icelandic adolescents. OBJECTIVE: This study is a part of EuroPrevall, an EU-funded European food allergy project. The aim was to evaluate the prevalence of food allergy in Icelandic infants during their first year of life.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Infants (n=1,341) were followed prospectively from birth to 12 months of age. Questionnaires were obtained at birth and 12 months. Children with symptoms of possible food allergy were assessed with a skin-prick test (SPT) and specific IgE. Food allergy was confirmed with a double-blind placebo-controlled food challenge (DBPCFC).

The results of an experimental research of the glottal activity during the production of Icelandic consonants and consonant clusters are reported. The method of research is the photoglottography. It is concluded from the data examined that aspiration in Icelandic can be described as a function of glottal opening at the moment of release. The last part of the study contains a discussion of the place of phonetics in linguistic analysis. It is asserted that an analysis of the linguistic form always must precede a phonetic analysis.
