Machine learning prediction models for the popularization and dissemination of medical science popularization videos.

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the current production and release trends of medical science popularization videos, analyze the effect of non-medical factors on their spread, and develop dissemination-prediction models using machine learning (ML) algorithms. METHODS: We identified a sample of medical science popularization videos on TikTok (n = 566), Bilibili (n = 50), Xiaohongshu (n = 54), and International TikTok (n = 46) platforms. Thirty six non-medical features were annotated as predictor variables, with "Thumb-Up," "Comment," "Share" and "Collection" as outcomes. Fifteen algorithms models were

FAIR data gaps and collaboration willingness among hemoglobinopathy research centers.

Hemoglobinopathies, including thalassemia syndromes and sickle cell disease, require interoperable and well-annotated data systems to support multi-center research and coordinated care. However, existing datasets rarely adhere to the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) principles. We conducted a cross-sectional, web-based survey (September 2024-March 2025) among data professionals, clinicians, and researchers within the HELIOS network to evaluate data management practices, metadata use, standards adoption, and collaboration readiness. Forty-four eligible institutional resp

Dissemination in diagnostic accuracy studies is not associated with methodological quality: a systematic review and meta-epidemiological analysis.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate associations between methodological characteristics and dissemination measures in diagnostic accuracy studies. The COVID-19 pandemic generated a large body of studies addressing a single diagnostic question, allowing assessment of how study characteristics relate to dissemination. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Using a preregistered systematic review (PROSPERO CRD42023343656), we identified studies evaluating the diagnostic performance of SARS-CoV-2 serological tests through Medline, Embase, and the iSearch Portfolio. Risk of bias and applicability were assessed using QUADA

Context of data sharing practices in collaborative human genomic research in low and middle income countries: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The collection and aggregation of individual genomic data into large-scale repositories is now a common approach in biomedical research. Funding agencies increasingly require researchers to include data sharing plans in new project proposals, unless there are strong, clearly justified reasons. While sharing human genomic data promotes scientific discovery, innovation, and transparency, it also raises significant ethical, legal, and social concerns (ELSI). This review collated evidence on data sharing practices, context, facilitators and barriers in collaborative human genomic resea

The WHO Institutional Repository for Information Sharing-African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control Collection: an electronic resource of the Onchocerciasis Control Programme and African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control experience and data to inform onchocerciasis elimination strategies.

BACKGROUND: As countries progress from control of onchocerciasis as a public health problem to elimination of parasite transmission, more evidence on vector-related activities and transmission assessments is needed to inform WHO guidelines and country strategies to achieve the targets of the 2030 Neglected Tropical Disease Roadmap. For vector-borne diseases, entomology plays a critical role in the elimination and verification of transmission based on vector infectivity. The vector control-based Onchocerciasis Control Programme (OCP) in West Africa, 1974-2002, had accumulated relevant experienc

Empowering open data sharing for social good: a privacy-aware approach.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the world at multiple levels. Data sharing was pivotal for advancing research to understand the underlying causes and implement effective containment strategies. In response, many countries have facilitated access to daily cases to support research initiatives, fostering collaboration between organisations and making such data available to the public through open data platforms. Despite the several advantages of data sharing, one of the major concerns before releasing health data is its impact on individuals' privacy. Such a sharing process should adhere to s

From information free-riding to information sharing: how have humans solved the cooperative dilemma at the heart of cumulative cultural evolution?

Cumulative cultural evolution, where populations accumulate ever-improving knowledge, technologies and social customs, is arguably a unique feature of human sociality and responsible for our species' ecological dominance of the planet. However, at the heart of cumulative cultural evolution is a cooperative dilemma. Assuming asocial learning is more costly than social learning, social learners can act as 'information free-riders' by copying innovations from asocial learners without paying the cost. This cost asymmetry will reduce innovation, inhibiting cumulative culture. Innovators might respo

Is useful research data usually shared? An investigation of genome-wide association study summary statistics.

Primary data collected during a research study is often shared and may be reused for new studies. To assess the extent of data sharing in favourable circumstances and whether data sharing checks can be automated, this article investigates summary statistics from primary human genome-wide association studies (GWAS). This type of data is highly suitable for sharing because it is a standard research output, is straightforward to use in future studies (e.g., for secondary analysis), and may be already stored in a standard format for internal sharing within multi-site research projects. Protecting User Privacy and Rights in Academic Data-Sharing Partnerships: Principles From a Pilot Program at Crisis Text Line.

Data sharing between technology companies and academic health researchers has multiple health care, scientific, social, and business benefits. Many companies remain wary about such sharing because of unaddressed concerns about ethics, data security, logistics, and public relations. Without guidance on these issues, few companies are willing to take on the potential work and risks involved in noncommercial data sharing, and the scientific and societal potential of their data goes unrealized. In this paper, we describe the 18-month long pilot of a data-sharing program led by Crisis Text Line (CT

Disclosures of Cystic Fibrosis-Related Information to Romantic Partners.

In this article, we offer insights into how individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) share information about their disease with a romantic partner. Using communication privacy management as a sensitizing theoretical construct, four themes emerged following 13 qualitative interviews with persons with CF. Themes about sharing CF-related information with a romantic partner include weighing the risks and benefits of sharing information, the role of health-related triggered rules, the motivations for disclosures, and the reactions from outsiders. Implications of the research suggest a need for more nu

The social media manifesto: a comprehensive review of the impact of social media on emergency management.

Over the past five years, social media have impacted emergency management and disaster response in numerous ways. The emergency management professional must begin to accept this impact not as an arbitrary consequence of an uncontrolled disaster, but rather as a tool to help coordinate, manage and facilitate a safe and expected response during emergencies and disasters. This paper will explain the power and purpose of social media as well as how social media systems have equalised capabilities for all levels and sizes of government. Moreover, this paper will also highlight the social media syst
