A 7-year-old boy with a history of low-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia developed multiple intussusceptions shortly after the end of maintenance therapy. Explorative laparotomy showed >10 polyps in the small intestine. Histologic examination revealed intestinal smooth muscle sarcomas associated with Epstein-Barr virus. The patient recovered well after partial cuneiform resection of the largest polyps and treatment with sirolimus. BACKGROUND: Brunner's gland hamartoma is a rare tumor, predominantly found in the fifth to sixth decades of life. Generally, it is a single pedunculated polyp, rarely larger than 5 cm. Asymptomatic cases are found incidentally, but cases with a large polyp tend to have gastrointestinal bleeding and/or obstructive symptoms. A 26-year-old Arab had epigastric pain and bloody mucous stools. At coloscopy distal proctitis and a polyp at the rectosigmoid junction were discovered. The polyp had granulomatous inflammatory changes and eggs of Schistosoma mansoni with a characteristic egg shell, central miracidium and lateral spine. Bilharziasis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines.

A new case of ileal inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is reported. A 76 years old woman presented with abdominal pain due to intestinal obstruction; an ileo-ileal intussusception caused by an ulcerated submucosal polyp was found at laparotomy. The IFP usually appears as a solitary benign lesion, rarely located in the ileum. It is made up of fibrous tissue with a dense infiltrate composed predominantly of eosinophils.
