Renal cell carcinoma is the most frequent kidney neoplasm, with a high tendency to metastasize. The occurrence of renal carcinoma metastasis to the head and neck region is extremely rare. Here we present one such case where the tongue metastasis was the initial presenting feature of disease.

A case of renal cell carcinoma in a patient with situs inversus totalis is reported. Only 8 cases of malignant neoplasms have been reported in situs inversus totalis, and our case represents the second case report of renal cell carcinoma in a patient with situs inversus totalis. The frequency of situs inversus totalis is between 1 in 8,000 and 1 in 20,000. Cardiac and pulmonary anomalies are common in patients with situs inversus totalis. Renal anomalies, including agenesis, dysplasia, hypoplasia, ectopia, polycystic kidney, and horseshoe kidney, have been reported. Because of the association

Metastatic tumor of the penis is uncommon in spite of its rich blood supply, abundant vascular space and the proximity of the pelvic organs which have a high incidence of malignant neoplasms. We report three cases of metastatic penile tumors. The primary sites of these cases were the left ureter, the right kidney and the rectum. We review and discuss sixty two cases collected from the Japanese literature, including our cases.

Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) exhibit a higher incidence of neoplasms compared to the general population, primarily due to the prolonged administration of immunosuppressive agents and viral infections. In China, the primary type of tumor among KTRs is urothelial carcinoma (UC), which lacks specific clinical manifestations. Accurate diagnosis necessitates the integration of multiple diagnostic modalities, while therapeutic approaches must judiciously balance oncological control with the preservation of renal function, thereby presenting a considerable challenge to the health of KTRs. Sarcoidosis is a chronic granulomatous disease that can involve virtually every organ system, but most commonly presents as lung, skin, or lymph node disease. Although kidney involvement is usually clinically silent, granulomatous interstitial nephritis - the hallmark of renal sarcoidosis - can lead to functional impairment and organ failure. Also, recent studies have suggested an association between sarcoidosis and an increased risk of developing kidney tumors. While a sarcoid-like granulomatous reaction (SLGR) to renal epithelial neoplasms in patients without sarcoidosis has been well docume

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumours (pPNET) are aggressive neoplasms that require radical surgical resection with adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. A pPNET of the posterior chest wall was resected with wide soft tissue margins in a 14 year old male. Following tumour excision a spacer device was positioned in the retroperitoneum adjacent to the ipsilateral left kidney displacing it from the planned radiotherapy field. A pedicled latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap was used to achieve robust soft tissue cover. Ultrasound demonstrated anteromedial displacement of the left kidney wit

1,3-Dichloro-2-propanol (DCP) is formed in foods under a variety of conditions. It was positive in a variety of in vitro genotoxicity tests, but was negative in two in vivo studies. DCP produced neoplasms at several sites in rats. Kidney tumours in male rats were selected as the critical tumour type. Dose-response modelling of the data for DCP gave a BMDL(10) for combined kidney carcinomas and adenomas in male rats of 9.62 mg/kg-body weight (bw)/day. The exposure of humans was estimated at an average of 0.00009 mg/kg-bw/day and a high exposure of 0.000136 mg/kg-bw/day. The MOEs for these expos

Primary small-cell carcinomas of the kidney are rare, locally aggressive, and rapidly fatal neoplasms in elderly people. We report an example of combined small-cell and transitional cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis in a 71-year-old woman who had a history of heavy smoking. The cells that pertained to the small-cell component were morphologically mostly of an intermediate type. Immunohistochemically, they reacted with synaptophysin, carcinoembryonic antigen, and epithelial markers (Lu-5, EAB902, EAB903, and cytokeratin 19), and they contained scanty neurosecretory granules at the ultrastructu

BACKGROUND: Although anastomosing hemangiomas are very rare and benign vascular neoplasms, these tumors are more common among patients with end-stage kidney disease. Incidental finding of these tumors in the kidney or adrenal gland has been reported. Herein, we describe a case in which an anastomosing hemangioma was misdiagnosed as a renal cell carcinoma before kidney transplant.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old woman with lupus nephritis was admitted to our emergency department for suspected uremic symptoms of nausea and general weakness. She had received hemodialysis due to end-stage kidney

The main indication for kidney autotransplantation is ureteric disease, although it is also performed to treat renovascular diseases or neoplasms, such as complex intrasinusal kidney tumors or in patients with a solitary kidney. Only a few cases of kidney autotransplantation in the context of resection of complex retroperitoneal masses have been reported in the literature. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 26-year-old man with history of nonseminomatous germ cell tumor who had undergone a left radical orchiectomy 3 months earlier. Follow-up computed tomography revealed a residual retr

OBJECTIVES: The DICER1 gene encodes a ribonuclease essential for microRNA processing and regulates diverse cellular functions. Germline DICER1 alterations underlie DICER1-related tumor predisposition syndrome, which can lead to renal neoplasia. Herein, we studied the spectrum of DICER1-altered renal neoplasia.
METHODS: Our institutional archives were queried for DICER1-mutated renal neoplasia. Relevant clinicopathologic features and molecular profiling results were summarized.
RESULTS: We report five renal tumors that reinforce the clinicopathologic spectrum of DICER1-associated renal neopla

In 22 patients retroperitoneal nonorganic tumors, considered to be primary, proved to be metastatic. Prior to surgery the character of neoplasms was recognized only in 4 patients. Due to unwarranted efforts of "radical" removal of tumors 2 of 4 patients died. In 3 cases neoplasms were urgently removed due to internal hemorrhage and obstruction. In 7 cases a palliative effect of radiotherapy. 5-fluoruracil thiophosphamide employed prior to detection of the primary focus, was obtained. The latter was found following 3-12 months in the stomach (1), small intestine (1) and rectum (4), kidneys (4)

Thymomas are epithelial neoplasm of thymus and most common primary neoplasm of anterior and superior mediastinum affecting males and females equally. It occurs usually in the fifth to seventh decade. Approximately one-third of thymomas are invasive. Metastases to distant extrathoracic sites such as the liver, lung, lymph node, kidneys, ovary and brain occur infrequently. This is more common with invasive thymomas. Although brain has been shown to be a site of infrequent metastases, intraorbital metastases has not yet been reported. Here we report one such case of invasive thymoma of anterior s

The Authors report a case of retroperitoneal sarcoma, in the histological subtype "liposarcoma", occasionally diagnosed in a 57 year old woman, who presented aspecific symptoms, characterized by dry cough, vomiting and chest pain. Chest TC showed a neoplasm of the retroperitoneum, close to liver, right colon, duodenum and right kidney. The arteriography of the right renal artery showed a neovascolarization inside the mass. A surgical resection was performed. The histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of liposarcoma. Liposarcomas account for 30% of the retroperitoneal soft tissue sarc

An increased understanding of the molecular genetic and cellular pathophysiologic mechanisms responsible for the development of autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), made possible by the advances in molecular biology and genetics of the last three decades, has laid the foundation for the development of effective therapies. As the concept that a polycystic kidney is a neoplasm in disguise is becoming increasingly accepted, the development of therapies for ADPKD may benefit greatly from the expanding body of information on cancer chemoprevention and chemosuppression. This review

BACKGROUND: Renal medullary carcinoma is a recently described, highly aggressive neoplasm that affects predominantly young African American males with a history of sickle cell trait. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of fine needle aspirate cytology (FNAC) findings of renal medullary carcinoma.
CASE: A 14-year-old, African American male with a history of sickle cell trait presented with the sudden onset of third cranial nerve palsy. Radiographic examination demonstrated possible tumor masses in the brain, thorax and left kidney. Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration wa

Squamous cell carcinoma, originating in the renal pelvis, is an infrequent form of kidney malignancy. The occurrence rate remains below 1% for all neoplasms in this specific area. Most of these carcinomas are moderately or poorly differentiated, and diagnosis typically occurs at an advanced stage. Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis is an uncommon form of severe chronic infection that affects the parenchyma of native kidneys. We present the case of a 34-year-old male with a history of end-stage renal disease secondary to recurrent pyelonephritis, which was incidentally diagnosed as renal squamo

Primary Ewing sarcoma of the kidney is a very rare neoplasm that generally occurs in young adults. We report a 69-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer who on a routine annual bone scan was found to have a suspicious area over the right kidney. Computed tomography revealed a 16 by 15-cm mass that was removed by a radical nephrectomy. Pathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma. Three months later, the patient developed recurrence of the tumor at the nephrectomy site that significantly regressed after chemotherapy.

The risk of second primary cancer was assessed in persons who developed cancer of the urinary tract in Connecticut during 1935-82. Among 12,384 patients with a first primary tumor of the bladder or urethra, a second cancer was reported in 1,151 (or 9%). A significantly elevated relative risk (RR) of 1.23 was due to excess cancers of the lung, larynx, prostate, and kidney, and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia. Among 5,115 persons with a first primary tumor of the kidney, renal pelvis or ureter, a second cancer was reported in 374 (or 7%) that yielded a significantly elevated RR of 1.54 due to exce
