Treatment of acne vulgaris using 1,565 nm non-ablative fractional laser in combination with isotretinoin and pricking blood therapy.

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the 1,565 nm non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) in combination with isotretinoin and pricking blood therapy (PBT) for treatment of AV. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 60 patients with moderate-to-severe AV was performed. Four groups (n = 15) were evaluated: 1,565nm NAFL alone, oral isotretinoin alone, double therapy (NAFL + isotretinoin) and triple therapy (NAFL + isotretinoin + PBT). RESULTS: The triple therapy showed the highest improvement rate of inflammatory papules and boxcar atrophic scars. The patients receiving oral i

Assessment of Ablative Fractional CO2 Laser and Er:YAG Laser to Treat Hypertrophic Scars in a Red Duroc Pig Model.

Hypertrophic scarring is a fibroproliferative process that occurs following a third-degree dermal burn injury, producing significant morbidity due to persistent pain, itching, cosmetic disfigurement, and loss of function due to contractures. Ablative fractional lasers have emerged clinically as a fundamental or standard therapeutic modality for hypertrophic burn scars. Yet the examination of their histopathological and biochemical mechanisms of tissue remodeling and comparison among different laser types has been lacking. In addition, deficiency of a relevant animal model limits our ability to

Treating capsule contraction syndrome with a femtosecond laser.

UNLABELLED: We describe a technique that uses a femtosecond laser (femtosecond laser pseudophakic capsulotomy) to treat capsule contraction syndrome (capsule phimosis) that may occur after cataract surgery and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Enlarging the capsulotomy with a femtosecond laser may offer advantages over the existing treatment methods, neodymium:YAG laser capsulotomy and manual extension of the capsulorhexis. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE: None of the authors has a financial or proprietary interest in any material or method mentioned.

Antibiofilm efficacy of 1,064-nm neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser on Trichophyton rubrum and Candida albicans: in vitro study.

Fungal biofilms are the most important virulence factors of onychomycosis. However, traditional antifungal therapies lack antibiofilm efficacy. Although neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser is one of the most common laser therapies used for onychomycosis, its usage is restricted to aesthetic endpoints. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the antibiofilm activity of Nd:YAG against Trichophyton rubrum (NCCP 22456) and Candida albicans (NCCP 32703) biofilms. Biofilms were subjected to Nd:YAG (fluence 200 mJ/cm2, pulse duration, 0.1 ms; spot size, 1.5 mm; frequency, 30 Hz) for

Tarnish tattoos: localized cutaneous argyria from sterling silver in fresh piercings. A case series.

Tarnish tattoo is a form of localized cutaneous argyria resulting from the deposition of silver into the skin following exposure to silver jewellery in fresh piercings. This report presents the clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of four female patients with tarnish tattoos on the nose and ear from wearing silver jewellery. All four patients wore silver studs or rings immediately following the piercing. Two of the four patients underwent treatment with nanosecond Q-switched 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser and Q-switched alexandrite 755-nm lasers, with minimal improvement. Tarnish tattoos are

The effect of Er:YAG laser irradiation with different frequencies on surface decontamination of used healing abutments: a supplementary approach to sterilization.

Reusing healing abutments is common practice among clinicians; however, ensuring complete surface decontamination is crucial to avoid further complications. This study aimed to evaluate the cleaning potential of Er: YAG laser at different frequencies, as an adjunctive step prior to autoclave sterilization. Forty contaminated healing abutments were divided into four groups. Positive control group included mechanical wiping and ultrasonic bath, Er: YAG laser (50 mJ/pulse, 100 µsec, water 30%, air 70%) at 20 Hz, 30 Hz, and 40 Hz with the powers of 1 W, 1.5 W, and 2 W respectively. Review of Laser Treatments for Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation in Skin of Color.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is an extremely common disorder of pigmentation in skin of color. It most frequently and severely affects phototypes that are rich in melanin and often has a chronic and unpredictable course. It presents significant treatment challenges and often requires a multi-factorial approach. We review the literature available for the optimal use of laser-based devices in the treatment of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, particularly for Fitzpatrick skin phototypes III-VI. For the treatment of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in skin of color, lasers remain sec

Novel treatment approach of localized juvenile spongiotic gingival hyperplasia with use of Nd:YAG laser.

INTRODUCTION: This article describes the management of two patients who presented with localized juvenile spongiotic gingival hyperplasia. This disease entity is poorly understood, and literature regarding successful treatment is scant. However, there are common themes to management including proper diagnosis and treatment via removal of the affected tissue. The biopsy demonstrates intercellular edema and neutrophil infiltrate with epithelial and connective tissue disease components, so surgical deepithelialization may not be adequate to definitively treat the disease. METHODS AND RESULTS: Th

Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser treatment for onychomycosis - is it really effective? A prospective assessment for efficiency and factors contributing to response.

Onychomycosis is a highly prevalent and persistent nail disorder primarily caused by dermatophytes. The effectiveness of current topical and systemic antifungals is limited by the extent and severity of the infection, patient demographics and health status, hepatic toxicity, drug interactions and low compliance. Laser therapy is a promising modality for safe and cost-effective removal of mycotic nail. This prospective study assessed the performance of a multi-series long-pulsed Nd:YAG 1064 nm regimen (30-40 J/cm2 , 1 Hz) in the treatment of 213 mycotic nails in 31 patients. Pain and discomfort

Treatment of benign hyperpigmentations and pigmented scars by 755 alexandrite laser comparing the Single Pass versus MultiPass (MoveoPL) emission in skin types I-IV.

Lasers are effective treatments for benign hyperpigmentations but may be difficult especially in darker skin type. In this randomized split-face controlled study on benign hyperpigmentations and pigmented scars, we compare the standard Single Pass (SP) emission with the MultiPass emission (MoveoPL) 755 alexandrite laser. Patients, skin types I-IV, with solar lentigines and ephelides of the face, chest, and hands and patients with pigmented scars of the legs, underwent laser treatment, by treating one side of the body or half scar using the SP and the other side using MoveoPL. Improvements acco

A randomized split-face, investigator-blinded study of a picosecond Alexandrite laser for post-inflammatory erythema and acne scars.

The 755 nm picosecond Alexandrite laser has been demonstrated to be effective and well tolerated in patients with acne scars. In this split-face, investigator-blinded study, 16 patients with post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) and acne scars were randomized to receive laser treatment on half the face, with the other half serving as a control. The treatment side demonstrated a significant improvement in both PIE and scars compared to the baseline and also when compared to the control side. Treatment was well-tolerated, with only transient and mild erythema and edema reported as side-effects. In ou
