A 53-year-old male presented with an abdominal mass and urinary disturbance. Plain pelvic X-rays revealed a scimitar deformity of the sacrum. The early recognition and treatment of correctable lesions of the terminal spinal cord in patients with anorectal malformations may preserve important neurologic function. Tethered cord and intraspinal masses are detectable with the use of high-resolution ultrasonography in the neonate. In previous studies we have found that the cholecystographic contrast agent ipodate induced a rapid, sustained and reversible inhibition of thyroxine (T4) secretion from perfused dog thyroid lobes. Multiple spinal tumors are relatively rare and account for from only 1.2 to 9.5% of all spinal tumors. Half of the multiple spinal tumors are accompanied with von Recklinghausen's disease. Since March 1983, we have encountered 31 spinal tumors including 11 neurinomas, three of which were multiple and showed no manifestations of von Recklinghausen's disease. Lectins which identify carbohydrates and glycoproteins have been used to characterize specific components of the surface of guinea pig peritoneal exudate eosinophils. The surgical treatment of six adult patients with Type I Chiari malformation associated with syringomyelia is reported. Severe traction injuries may damage the brachial plexus at any level from the spinal cord to the axillary outlet. Investigation aims to determine the level of the injury for each of the nerves, trunks or cords, with particular reference to obtaining firm evidence of any intradural (pre-ganglionic) damage. We report the results of computerised axial tomography of the cervical spine in comparison with conventional myelography and with surgical exploration of the plexus. CT scanning with contrast enhancement greatly improves diagnostic accuracy, particularly at C5 and C6 root levels.

A series of patients with obstructive epiphora was evaluated by a new method of dacryocystography. The technique involved intubation and injection of radiopaque contrast material into each lacrimal system under the control of direct sequential digitally subtracted (realtime) imaging. Simultaneous rapid sequence digital subtraction macrodacryocystography yields instantaneous high resolution magnified bone-free radiographs of the lacrimal drainage system.

The degree of pain produced by Amipaque 260 and Isopaque 260 at intraosseous phlebography in patients with varicose ulcerations in the ankle region was compared. Amipaque produced less pain than Isopaque. No complications or side-effects occurred during the observation period of about one year.

Because of its ability to visualize soft-tissue structures in greater detail than any previous radiographic modality, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) has been heralded as one of the greatest advances in recent years. Seventeen myelodysplastic patients with progressive extremity spasticity and scoliosis underwent radiological evaluation and surgical treatment.
