In this study, sixteen Sprague Dawley (SD) female rats and eight SD male rats were co-housed to mate. Pregnant SD female rats were fed with a control diet or an MA diet. Breast milk, maternal ileum, and intestinal samples of the offspring were collected at the day of birth and ten days afterwards. The results showed that the impact of MA was more obvious on the microbiota of mature milk (p = 0.066) than on that of colostrum. In addition, MA additive did not significantly affect maternal ileal microbiota, but affected offsprings' colonic microbiota significantly ten days after birth (p = 0.035)

As the global male infertility rate continues to rise, there is an urgent imperative to investigate the underlying causes of sustained deterioration in sperm quality. The gut microbiota emerges as a pivotal factor in host health regulation, with mounting evidence highlighting its dual influence on semen. This review underscores the interplay between the Testis-Gut microbiota axis and its consequential effects on sperm. Potential mechanisms driving the dual impact of gut microbiota on sperm encompass immune modulation, inflammatory responses mediated by endotoxins, oxidative stress, antioxidant

The human body is host to a large number of microorganisms which conform the human microbiota, that is known to play an important role in health and disease. Although most of the microorganisms that coexist with us are located in the gut, microbial cells present in other locations (like skin, respiratory tract, genitourinary tract, and the vaginal zone in women) also play a significant role regulating host health. The fact that there are different kinds of microbiota in different body areas does not mean they are independent. It is plausible that connection exist, and different studies have sh

RegIIIβ and RegIIIγ are antimicrobial peptides expressed in intestinal epithelial cells. Expression of these peptides is reportedly decreased by high-fat diet (HFD) and increased by indigestible oligosaccharides in mice. Clearly, these dietary regimens change the structure of intestinal microbiota. We employed an intestinal microbiota transplantation (IMT) to test whether diet-induced changes in the expression of these peptides are mediated by gut microbiota. C57BL/6J mice were fed either a normal-fat diet (NFD), a HFD, or a NFD supplemented with or without 1-kestose (KES), an indigestible oli

With recent research in humans, a hypothesis known as the sterile womb paradigm has been challenged. The objectives of this study were to determine the presence of placental and fetal microbiomes in dogs, the effect of different types of parturition on the fetal microbiome, and the effect that the fetal microbiome has on early puppy development. A total of 96 newborn puppies from 17 dams were included in the study. Puppies were divided into two groups depending on the type of parturition (vaginal birth (VB) or cesarean section (CS)). Immediately after birth, swabs of the placenta and meconium

INTRODUCTION: The bacterial gut microbiota has been implicated in the pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis (AD), yet most studies have focused on Western populations and have typically examined the gut or skin microbiota in isolation. Evidence for interactions between skin and gut microbiota in inflammatory skin diseases remains limited, particularly in pediatric cohorts from non-Western settings. Here, we profiled the bacterial gut microbiota in children with AD from Indonesia, and evaluated the relationship with bacterial skin microbiota using paired gut and skin samples from the same indivi

A high percentage of patients with neurological diseases have significant dietary preference abnormalities (such as picky eating and texture sensitivity). Studies show Gut Microbiota (GM) mediates dietary preferences via the microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA), such as depression-related appetite changes linked to gut flora imbalance. GM directly or indirectly regulates dietary behavior through the vagal-mediated gut-brain signaling pathway. On the one hand, gut bacterial metabolites (such as butyrate) can directly activate vagal afferents, which project signals through the nucleus of the solitar

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a severe brain development disorder that is characterized by deficits in social communication and restricted, repetitive and stereotyped behaviors. Accumulating evidence has suggested that gut microbiota disorders play important roles in gastrointestinal symptoms and neurodevelopmental dysfunction in ASD patients. Manipulation of the gut microbiota by fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) was recently shown to be a promising therapy for the treatment of various diseases. Here, we performed a clinical trial to evaluate the effect of FMT on gastrointestinal (GI

The vaginal microbiota of nonhuman primates differs substantially from humans in terms of Lactobacillus abundance, overall taxonomic diversity, and vaginal pH. Given these differences, it remains unclear in what way the nonhuman primate genital microbiota protects against pathogens, in particular sexually transmitted infections. Considering the effect that microbiota variations can have on disease acquisition and outcome, we examined endogenous and exogenous factors that influence the urogenital microbiota of male and female captive rhesus monkeys. The male urethral (n = 37) and vaginal (n = 1

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from healthy donors has been shown to improve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and changes the profile of the gut microbiota for the recipients. Alternatively, anaerobically cultivated human intestinal microbiota (ACHIM) can be used to manipulate the gut microbiota. The aim of the current study was to compare the efficacy and safety of ACHIM suspension with donor-FMT and placebo (patient's own feces) to treat IBS. Out of the 62 originally included eligible patients with diarrhea-predominant IBS and their respective donors, only 43 patients c

BACKGROUND: Many antidepressants exert their effects by modulating the gut microbiota, but it is unknown if this mechanism extends to the tricyclic antidepressant imipramine.
OBJECTIVE: We probed the extent to which specific gut bacterial taxa mediate the antidepressant effects of imipramine.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Using a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) mouse model, we administered imipramine, the prebiotic inulin, or their combination, and systematically evaluated depressive-like phenotypes. Gut microbial dynamics were profiled by 16S rRNA sequencing, and fecal microbiota transplan

Depression (major depressive disorder, MDD) is a globally prevalent, highly disabling, and complex mental disorder whose pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. In recent years, the role of the gut microbiota in depression via the "microbiota-gut-brain axis" (MGB axis) has attracted increasing attention. A large body of evidence indicates that the gut microbiota and its metabolites can engage in bidirectional communication with the central nervous system through three core pathways-neural, immune, and metabolic-thereby profoundly influencing the onset and progression of depression. This ar

The intestinal microbiome is a key regulator of immune homeostasis, metabolism, and epithelial barrier integrity. In patients with malignant hematological diseases, particularly those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, microbiome perturbations by reduced diversity, pathobiont expansion, and loss of beneficial metabolites are common as a consequence of exposure to cytotoxic therapy and broad-spectrum antimicrobials. Accordingly, enteral microbiome manipulation has emerged as a promising strategy. We performed a narrative review of the literature in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and t

In this study, we aimed to explore the intestinal microbiota structure of Xichuan black-bone chickens (XBCs) and evaluate the effect of fecal microbiota substitute transplantation (FMST) by comparing it with traditional fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). Metagenomic sequencing was used to analyze the microbiota composition and diversity of different intestinal segments (duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, and rectum) of adult XBCs. Probiotic strains were subsequently isolated and screened from the cecal contents under anaerobic conditions to prepare FMST preparations. In total, 90 1-day-old

The human gut microbiota is diverse and abundant and plays important roles in regulating health by participating in metabolism and controlling physiological activities. The gut microbiota and its metabolites have been shown to affect the functioning of the gut and central nervous system through the microbiota-gut-brain axis. It is well established that microbiota play significant roles in the pathogenesis and progression of Parkinson's disease (PD). Disorders of the intestinal microbiota and altered metabolite levels are closely associated with PD. Here, the changes in intestinal microbiota an
