Midwifery-led continuity-of-care education affects health literacy, empowerment and childbirth fear: a quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: According to the World Health Organisation, antenatal care should ensure continuity, respect and evidence-based education. Fear of childbirth (FOC), affecting 20-40% of women globally, contributes to prolonged labour, higher caesarean rates and negative birth experiences. In Türkiye, where midwifery-led support remains limited, this study examined how pregnant women's health literacy influences empowerment and FOC within antenatal care and evaluated the effectiveness of the midwifery-led continuity-of-care (MLCC) model. METHODS: A quasi-experimental study with a comparative group

Nursing and midwifery students' perceptions of sign language training in Ghana: relevance, instructional methods, and assessment practices.

INTRODUCTION: Effective communication between healthcare practitioners and patients is essential in ensuring quality healthcare delivery and the attainment of positive health outcomes. However, many healthcare providers lack adequate training to communicate appropriately with patients with hearing loss or hard-of-hearing patients, resulting in avoidable barriers to quality care. Despite the recent integration of sign language training into the curriculum of nursing and midwifery, research examining its application and effectiveness remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study examines the perceived

Impact of an Obstetrical Emergency Simulation Learning Module on Midwifery Students' Competency: A Non-randomized Control Study.

Background Obstetrical emergencies are multifaceted and complex, and their urgency demands a combination of clinical skills. As a result, it is generally observed that minimum teaching takes place during these emergencies. This study aimed to formulate a simulation learning module centered on chosen obstetrical emergencies and evaluate its efficacy in measuring the competency of undergraduate midwifery students. Design and participants The study utilized a non-randomized time series interventional research design among 188 midwifery students (control group 90, intervention group 98). A hybrid

Harnessing the power of midwifery: Transforming self-efficacy and health navigation among women with polycystic ovarian syndrome.

The impact of a midwife-led intervention on self-efficacy and health information-seeking behavior (HISB) in women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is of interest. Sixty women were divided into an experimental and a control group, with the experimental group receiving a structured intervention over four weeks. Results showed significant improvements in self-efficacy and HISB in the experimental group, compared to no change in the control group. Thus, we show that midwife-led interventions effectively empower women by enhancing their ability to manage PCOS. It emphasizes the importance of

Pregnancy experiences of transgender and gender-expansive individuals: A systematic scoping review from a critical midwifery perspective.

BACKGROUND: Evidence suggests that transgender and gender-expansive people are more likely to have suboptimal pregnancy outcomes compared with cisgender people. The aim of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of the role of midwifery in these inequities by analyzing the pregnancy experiences of transgender and gender-expansive people from a critical midwifery perspective. METHODS: We conducted a systematic scoping review. We included 15 papers published since 2010 that reported on pregnancy experiences of people who had experienced gestational pregnancy at least once, and were transg

Midwifery tutors' capacity and willingness to teach contraception, post-abortion care, and legal pregnancy termination in Ghana.

BACKGROUND: Ghana has a high maternal mortality rate of 540 per 100 000. Although abortion complications usually are treatable, the risks of morbidity and death increase when treatment is delayed. Delay in care may occur when women have difficulty accessing treatment because health care providers are not trained, equipped, or willing to treat the complications of abortion. Gaps in the midwifery tutors' knowledge on comprehensive abortion care (CAC) have resulted in most midwives in Ghana not knowing the legal indications under which safe abortion care can be provided, and lacking the skills an

Preventive trial-and-error model is associated with improved breech delivery skills and training transfer in midwifery interns.

Breech delivery requires midwifery trainees to integrate technical skills, clinical decision-making, and error prevention in time-sensitive situations. We evaluated a preventive trial-and-error model using high-fidelity simulation among 89 midwifery interns in a quasi-experimental study. Over 4 weeks, the intervention incorporated structured exposure to simulated errors, guided correction, preventive strategy discussion, and feedback, whereas the control group received conventional demonstration-based training. Compared with controls, the intervention group achieved higher breech delivery skil
