OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of diagnostic ureteroscopy (URS) prior to radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) on intravesical recurrence (IVR) in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC).

PURPOSE: To describe development of extraocular extension of ciliochoroidal melanoma after transscleral fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) for cytogenetic studies.
METHODS: Transscleral FNAB was performed for cytogenetic analysis of melanoma using a long 27-gauge needle attached to a 10-mL syringe by connector tubing entering obliquely through the sclera overlying the tumor base. An iodine 125 radioactive plaque was immediately applied to the sclera over the tumor and biopsy site after FNAB.

A 5 yr old castrated male miniature dachshund presented with clinical signs attributable to carcinoma involving the bladder neck and prostate. Bilaterally enlarged adrenals were diagnosed by ultrasonography in a 57-year-old man with a potentially resectable adenocarcinoma of the lung. Ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy of the left adrenal revealed a metastasis, proven cytologically. Chemotherapy was tried but failed to influence tumour growth. Three months later a painful subcutaneous nodule was noted in the area of the previous needle puncture, which on removal proved to be a skin metastasis. The patient died later from the underlying tumour.

We report a case of port-site metastasis of bladder cancer after left retroperitoneoscopy-assisted nephroureterectomy and cystectomy. The patient was a 73-year-old man with a chief complaint of gross hematuria. The diagnosis was invasive bladder cancer with bone metastasis. He received two courses of chemotherapy (methotrexate, vinblastine, adriamycin, cisplatin), and this resulted in resolution of the bone metastases. Meningeal melanocytoma is a rare benign CNS tumor derived from the leptomeningeal melanocytes. Although unusual, malignant transformation with leptomeningeal seeding into the brain or spinal cord may occur years after the initial diagnosis. The authors report a unique case of multifocal benign meningeal melanocytoma involving both cerebellopontine angles and the thoracic spinal cord, with associated diffuse leptomeningeal hyperpigmentation. They review the literature relevant to this topic and discuss the radiological and pathological features of this disease as well as its treatment options.

OBJECTIVE: The publication of a prospective [1] and several retrospective [2,3] studies describing a worse prognosis in patients affected with early-stage cervical cancer who underwent a minimally invasive radical hysterectomy has raised a high concern in what measures should be undertaken in order to revert these results. We report a case of nephrostomy tract tumor seeding following percutaneous pyeloscopic manipulation of a renal pelvic carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the second reported case of such a lesion surrounding the nephrostomy tract. Percutaneous pyeloscopic treatment carries a potential risk of local tumor spillage and implantation in the nephrostomy tract.
