Epidermal nevus syndrome and dysplatic kidney disease.

Epidermal nevus syndrome is a rare congenital disorder, characterized by epidermal nevi and multiple organ involvement. Multicystic kidney disease has been very rarely reported in this syndrome. Here is the report of a boy presented with multiple epidermal nevi, cardiac anomaly, seizure attack, hemi hypertrophy, and multicystic dysplastic kidney complicated with Wilms' tumor. According to this association, it is suggested to search for dysplastic kidney disease in patients with neurocutaneous disorders.

Aortic arch tortuosity with PHACE syndrome - a rare case scenario.

PHACE syndrome is a rare neurocutaneous disorder characterised by an association of infantile haemangiomas with structural anomalies of brain, cerebral vasculature, eye, aorta and chest wall.1 Coarctation of aorta (COA) is most the common cardiac anomaly reported in PHACE syndrome. COA or interrupted aortic arch in PHACE is unique and complex both in location and character compared to the typical coarctation anatomy. Arterial tortuosity of the cerebral vasculature has been well described in literature in PHACE syndrome. We present a rare case of tortuous aortic arch continuing as descending ao

Unusual cause of lower extremity wounds: Cobb syndrome.

Cobb syndrome (Cutaneomeningospinal Angiomatosis) is a rare segmental neurocutaneous syndrome associated with metameric cutaneous and spinal cord arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). In this syndrome, capillary malformation or angiokeratoma-like lesions are formed in a dermatomal distribution, with an AVM in the corresponding segment of the spinal cord. The spinal cord lesions can cause neurological disorder and paraplegia, which typically develop during young adulthood. We report a 32-year-old male with the Cobb syndrome associated with lower extremity painful wounds and acute-onset paraplegia

Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN)--an overview and case report--patient with sporadic bilateral pheochromocytoma, hyperparathyroidism and marfanoid habitus.

The multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes are divided into two categories: MEN type I and MEN type II. The MEN type II syndrome is further divided into MEN IIa and MEN IIb. The syndromes are characterized by benign and malignant changes in two or more endocrine organs, as well as incidental changes in nervous, muscular and connective tissue. Two main forms can be distinguished: the MEN-I syndrome with hyperplasia of the parathyroid gland, accompanied by islet cell tumor and pituitary adenoma; the MEN-II syndrome with medullary thyroid carcinoma in combination with bilateral pheochromocytoma a

Acquired neurocutaneous disorders.

A variety of neurologic diseases have cutaneous manifestations. These may precede, coincide with, or follow the neurologic findings. An array of autoimmune, genetic, and environmental factors play a role in expression and severity of the neurologic burden in these conditions. This chapter emphasizes congenital and genetic disorders, but we also discuss the pathophysiology and manifestation of various acquired neurocutaneous disorders with an emphasis Behcet's disease, dermatomyositis, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, Parry-Romberg syndrome and Degos disease.

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosıs (Haberland syndrome) in a newborn baby: a case report with review of literature.

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL) is an extremely uncommon, neurocutaneous disease, with a classical triad of ocular, skin lesions and central nervous system anomalies. We here report a case of ECCL in a newborn baby, characterized with naevus psiloliparus, choristoma, lipodermoids, cervical subcutaneous soft tissue mass, lowset ear, porencephalic cyst, polymicrogyria, arachnoid cyst, leptomeningeal angiomatosis and spinal lipomas. We here stress on the importance of early diagnosis to prevent misdiagnosis and employ a multidisciplinary approach in the management of these patients.

Genetics of Common Pediatric Brain Tumors.

Central nervous system tumors are the most common solid tumors in pediatrics and represent the largest cause of childhood cancer-related mortality. Improvements have occurred in the management of these patients leading to better survival, but significant morbidity persists. With the era of next generation sequencing, considerable advances have occurred in the understanding of these tumors both biologically and clinically. This information has impacted diagnosis and management. Subgroups have been identified, improving risk stratification. Novel therapeutic approaches, specifically targeting th

Encephalocraniocutaneous Lipomatosis: Haberland Syndrome.

BACKGROUND Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL) was first announced as a new type of ectomesodermal dysgenesis in 1970 by Haberland and Perou. ECCL was first described in 1970, and approximately 60 cases have been reported since then. The classic triad of ECCL are skin, ocular, and central nervous system involvement, including conditions such as unilateral porencephalic cyst, ipsilateral lipomatous hamartoma of the scalp-eyelids-eye globe, cortical atrophy, cranial asymmetry, developmental delay, seizures, mental retardation, and spasticity of the contralateral limbs. The dermatological

Cobb syndrome effectively treated with trametinib.

Cobb syndrome is a rare neurocutaneous disease characterized by vascular anomalies involving the skin and spinal cord at the same metamere. The most common initial symptoms are neurological manifestations such as pain, monoparesis, headache, scoliosis, and motor damage. We present two patients with Cobb syndrome and severe disease burden harboring somatic mutations in KRAS. The two patients were subsequently treated with the MEK inhibitor trametinib, indicating the potential therapeutic benefit of this treatment for patients with life-threatening Cobb syndrome who are currently considered incu

Cutis tricolor coexistent with cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita: "phacomatosis achromico-melano-marmorata".

An 8-year-old mentally retarded boy had paired segmental areas of hyper- and hypopigmentation on the left side of his body in association with cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita (CMTC) involving the trunk and the limbs, with the exception of parts of his right arm. At the age of 4 years, an aneurysmatic nodular lesion developed in the angle of his right elbow, and subsequently two similar lesions emerged on his forehead and scalp. Moreover, a dysmorphic facial appearance, scoliosis, genu valgum, talipes planus and increased laxity of joints were noted. The coexistence of paired achromic

Neurocutaneous melanosis.

Neurocutaneous melanosis is a rare neurocutaneous syndrome that is associated with a high rate of mortality early in life. Individuals with large cutaneous melanocytic nevi (LCMN) are at risk, especially when the nevi are posterior, midline and accompanied by satellite nevi. Disrupted production and migration of melanocytic precursors from neural crest likely are responsible. Although the cutaneous lesions are at risk for melanoma, the most likely source of morbidity and mortality comes from "benign" melanocytic proliferation in the brain or central nervous system melanoma. Seizures and hydroc

Six patients with congenital giant or multiple melanocytic nevi are studied retrospectively. The clinical, electroencephalographic and neuro-imaging findings for the four patients with neurocutaneous melanosis are described. The other two patients had only cutaneous melanosis. Three of the four with neurocutaneous alterations suffered seizures with flexion spasms and one had partial seizures. The seizures were treated and brought under control in three cases, whereas in the fourth untreated patient, only a single seizure was seen. Three patients have developed with lower intelligence levels an

Multilocus Genetic Variants in a Child With Neuro-Ichthyosis: A Case of Pharmacoresistant Epilepsy and Developmental Delay Associated With CC2D2A, ABCA12, DOCK6 Variants, and a 14q31.3-q32.11 Deletion.

Neuro-ichthyosis is a rare group of disorders characterized by the coexistence of neurological dysfunction and ichthyotic skin changes. We report a 5-year-old girl born to consanguineous parents who presented with pharmacoresistant epilepsy, severe developmental delay, microcephaly, and ichthyosis. Family history revealed similarly affected siblings, suggesting a hereditary basis. Despite multiple antiepileptic drugs, seizures remained uncontrolled. Whole exome sequencing identified a homozygous CC2D2A variant consistent with Joubert syndrome type 9, along with heterozygous variants in ABCA12
