Malignant Gastrointestinal Neuroectodermal Tumor (GNET) Mimicking Small Bowel Lymphoma: A Case Report.

A malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumor (GNET) is a rare entity, characterized as a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm occurring exclusively near the gastrointestinal tract, prone to frequent local recurrence and metastasis. Here, we report a case of a 49-year-old male presented with abdominal pain and weight loss. The patient had a remote history of thymic B-cell lymphoma. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a focal wall thickening of the terminal ileum with mesenteric lymphadenopathy, suggestive of lymphoma. A core needle biopsy of the mesenteric node was inconclusive.

Primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the cervix diagnosed during pregnancy: a rare case report with discussion.

BACKGROUND: Primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is a relatively rare malignant small round cell tumor, and the occurrence of cervical PNET during pregnancy is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: A case of pregnancy complicated by PNET at our hospital was reported. A 19-year-old pregnant woman presented to the hospital due to multiple instances of vaginal bleeding during the first and second trimesters. She was initially considered for threatened abortion but was ultimately diagnosed with cervical PNET. No standard treatment plan has been developed for pregnant women with this tumor. After c

Correction of Postlaminectomy Cervical Kyphosis in an Operated Case of Cervical Spine Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor.

A 14-year-old boy presented with gradually worsening spastic quadriparesis and cervical kyphotic deformity as a consequence of laminectomy for tumor debulking and chemoradiotherapy done 2 years prior for cervical primitive neuroectodermal tumor. Problems to be addressed particularly to the case were a rigid kyphosis of 102.7°, poor soft-tissue coverage, internal gibbus compressing cord, perched facets, and superficial location of cord. The surgery was staged, in that the first anterior release was done with gradually increasing traction to correct the kyphosis progressively. Posterior instrume

Renal primitive neuroectodermal tumor with elevated plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone levels: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Primitive neuroectodermal tumors are small round-cell tumors - Ewing sarcoma family, frequently occurring in the extremities, but rarely in the kidney. CASE PRESENTATION: A 58-year-old woman presented with whole-body edema and weakness of lower limb muscles. Computed tomography revealed a left renal tumor, and the plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone level was elevated. The tumor was surgically removed without complications, her plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone reverted to normal levels, and symptoms disappeared after surgery. Histopathological examination revealed a primitive n

[Long-term survival case of primitive neuroectodermal tumor in the chest wall of a young adult].

A very rare case of Askin's tumor is described. A 22-year-old male was admitted to our hospital because of an abnormal shadow on chest roentgenogram. His chest X-ray film showed a tumor shadow (4.0×5.0 cm) of chest wall protruding into the upper right lung field. The tumor shadow had markedly enlarged in size compared to previous examinations of chest X-ray film 1 month before. Chest computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging( MRI) revealed an heterogenous tumor fixed on the right 4th rib, which did not infiltrate the surrounding tissues. In the examination of bone scintigram, no a

Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) of the vulva. Case report and review of the literature.

Ewing sarcoma is a rare highly malignant neoplasm that is mostly encountered as a primary bone tumor of childhood. Extra osseous occurrence is less frequent and cases involving the vulva are very rare with only twelve reported to date. We report the case of a Ewing sarcoma that presented as a vulvar mass in a 28-year-old Lebanese lady and briefly review the differential diagnosis as well as the published literature regarding the clinical presentation and prognosis.

Epilepsy due to a temporal ganglioglioma and its subsequent malignant transformation into a primitive neuroectodermal tumor.

BACKGROUND: Gangliogliomas (GGs) are rare brain tumors, and their malignant changes are still less frequent. In these cases, almost always the malignant component is the glial one. However, there are few cases in which the neuronal component exhibits malignant transformation. CASE DESCRIPTION: We described a case of a 14-year-old male patient who started with seizures and 5 years later, its frequency was almost daily despite being treated with several antiepileptic drugs. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a nonenhancing lesion located at the right inferior temporal gyri. He underwent surgery,

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor causing cauda equina syndrome with destruction of L5 vertebra.

A 24-year-old male patient presented with cauda equina lesion symptoms. His clinicoradiological examination including X-rays, CT scan and MRI revealed destruction of L(5) vertebral body, pedicle and a mass extending to lateral recess and left intervertebral foramina causing pressure over the thecal sac. A CT guided FNAC was inconclusive. Open biopsy and hemilaminectomy of L(5) vertebra was performed. Histopathology and immunocytochemical analysis revealed it to be primitive neuroectodermal tumor. Patient was given chemotherapy and radiation therapy. His lower limb power improved by grade I pos

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor/Ewing's sarcoma of the craniospinal vault: case reports and review.

The peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor/Ewing's sarcoma family tumor (pPNET/ESFT) group includes small round cell tumors of the bone, soft tissue, and nerve with morphological attributes of the germinal neuroepithelium. Peripheral PNETs/ESFTs also occur within the craniospinal vault, a region including the central nervous system, the meninges, and the cranial and spinal nerve roots. Gene rearrangements between the EWS gene on chromosome 22q12 and members of the ETS gene family are common in and specific to pPNETs/ESFTs. Another defining characteristic of pPNETs/ESFTs is their membranous

Secondary supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumor following irradiation in a patient with low-grade astrocytoma.

We report a case of a supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) that occurred 12 years after cranial irradiation for a grade II astrocytoma. Neuroimaging was unable to distinguish between a recurrence of the original neoplasm and the development of a new, distinct entity. Pathologic review assisted by immunohistochemical staining, however, revealed a high-grade PNET. Although rare, PNET needs to be included in the differential diagnoses for previously irradiated patients, who develop recurrent brain tumors in the presence of uncharacteristic imaging features.

Synovial sarcoma, histologically mimicking primitive neuroectodermal tumor/Ewing's sarcoma at distant sites.

We report a case of synovial sarcoma (SS) showing unusual histology at distant sites. A 47-year-old man was aware of a tumor on the sole of his left foot. After preoperative chemotherapy with a diagnosis of SS, wide excision was performed. During postoperative chemotherapy, multiple tumorous lesions developed in the bone (including the whole spine) and both lungs. The patient died 1 year later. Histologically, the excised tumor of the foot showed a biphasic cellular pattern typical of SS, whereas at autopsy the bone and lung lesions were composed only of undifferentiated small round cells with

Leptomeningeal fibrosis and the delayed diagnosis of a central nervous system neoplasm (primitive neuroectodermal tumor).

We report a unique case of histologically confirmed meningeal fibrosis in a child who had progressive ischemic neurologic symptoms before the delayed diagnosis of an intracranial primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) was made > 1 year after initial presentation. This pathology has previously been described after neurosurgical procedures, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cranial irradiation, and with no known etiology, but has never been reported in association with a central nervous system neoplasm. In a 6-year-old boy with headaches of several months' duration MRI demonstrated hydrocephalus, a right

Malignant neuroectodermal tumor of the ovary, a distinctive form of monodermal teratoma: report of five cases.

Five cases of ovarian tumor with an exclusive or almost exclusive malignant neuroectodermal composition are reported. Four of them were unquestionably primary, but one, although probably primary, was possibly metastatic from the adrenal gland. The ages of the four patients with tumors in the former category ranged from 13 to 17 with an average of 15 years; the fifth patient was 18 years old. The presenting symptoms were similar to those of other ovarian cancers. Two of the definitely primary tumors were pure while two others contained minor foci of mature teratoma. Only one of the four patient

Multimodal Treatment of a Peripheral Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor Originating From the Thoracic Cavity in a Dog.

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (pPNET) is a very rare, highly malignant tumor encountered in young dogs, with only four necropsy cases in the veterinary literature. A 1.5-year-old male intact French Bulldog presented for evaluation of progressive left forelimb lameness and ipsilateral Horner's syndrome. Whole body computed tomography identified a 12 cm mediastinal mass with extension into the vertebral canal and multifocal metastatic lesions. Histological and immunohistochemical results were consistent with a pPNET. Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted thera

Malignant Gastrointestinal Neuroectodermal Tumor, a Rare Neoplasm, Presenting With Hemoperitoneum and Malena: A Case Report.

Malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumor (GNET) are rare malignant mesenchymal tumors. The tumor can present with various symptoms like abdominal pain, anorexia, or small bowel obstruction. Here, we present a case of small intestinal GNET who presented with gastrointestinal bleed and hemoperitoneum, a rare presentation of this disease. This patient was misdiagnosed initially as Crohn's disease and treated for the same. However, non-response to the standard treatment and onset of new symptoms like malena and ascites raised the suspicion of some alternate diagnosis. Exploratory laparotom

Extraenteric Malignant Gastrointestinal Neuroectodermal Tumor-A Clinicopathologic and Molecular Genetic Study of 11 Cases.

Malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumors (MGNETs), also known as "gastrointestinal clear cell sarcoma-like tumors", are very rare, aggressive sarcomas characterized by enteric location, distinctive pathologic features, and EWSR1/FUS::ATF1/CREB1 fusions. Despite identical genetics, the clinicopathologic features of MGNET are otherwise quite different from those of clear cell sarcoma of soft parts. Only exceptional extraenteric MGNET (E-MGNET) has been reported. We report a series of 11 E-MGNETs, the largest to date. Cases diagnosed with MGNET and occurring in nonintestinal locations we

An Incidental Malignant Gastrointestinal Neuroectodermal Tumor of the Stomach: A Rare Case Report and a Literature Review.

Gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumors (GNETs) are malignant tumors frequently arising within the muscularis propria of the gastrointestinal tract and often extend into the submucosa and subserosa. The stomach is the second most common site of incidence of GNETs after the small intestine. The most important differential of GNET is the clear cell sarcoma-gastrointestinal (CCS-GI). Both share similar morphological as well as molecular features and show S100 positivity; however, the lack of melanocytic differentiation in GNET distinguishes it from CCS-GI. Both typically show rearrangements of th

A case report of melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy complicated with congenital heart disease and hypothyroidism.

To the best of our knowledge, thus far there are no reported cases of melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy (MNTI) with multiple complications. In this case report, we describe the clinical phenotype of MNTI in a 9-month-old female infant associated with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a congenital heart defect, and congenital hypothyroidism (CH). Our study showed that the growth of MNTI was delayed by a lower dosage of levothyroxine (L-T4) that was prescribed to treat CH because of the presence of TOF, a severe congenital heart disease. However, the standardized dosage of L-T4 improved thyroi
