OBJECTIVES: This study sought to investigate the effects of pretransplant nutrient content, nutritional status, and nutritional habits on the clinical outcome of children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant.

Burkholderia glumae is the primary causal agent of bacterial panicle blight of rice. In this study, 11 naturally avirulent and nine virulent strains of B. glumae native to the southern United States were characterized in terms of virulence in rice and onion, toxofalvin production, antifungal activity, pigmentation and genomic structure. Peripheral nerve biopsies (PNB) from four children suffering from subacute or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy were studied by electron microscopy. The present study investigates the cytotoxic effect of the chemical fractions of Allium cepa (yellow variety) on Human Embryonic Kidney (HEK293) cells. Intraneural perineurioma is a true but rare neoplasm that originates from perineurial cells and mainly affects peripheral nerves. Foods were tested by the scratch-chamber and open application techniques in 80 hand dermatitis patients, 55 of whom were food handlers. Both immediate and delayed reactions were seen. Most immediate scratch-chamber test reactions were provoked by vegetables and spices in patients with birch pollen allergy, and most delayed reactions from spices in patients with allergy to balsam of Peru, and from onion and leek. The evaluation of allergic and irritant reactions was difficult. Positive open application tests were seen in about 75% of patients with immediate or delayed scratch-chamber reactions.

INTRODUCTION: Eczema-like psoriasiform dermatitis has been described as a complication after Brazilian keratin treatment, with the presence of perifollicular scale resembling the outer skin of an onion bulb reported as a characteristic trichoscopic feature. To date, no treatment for this condition has been communicated.
