Pain-free and mobility-free orthodontics are not discussed often, although they obviously would be significant advances and very desirable practice-builders. These advantages have occasionally been reported in the orthodontic literature by different authors who used magnetic force fields for molar distalization, aiding tooth eruption, etc., and are presented here in Group I. Group II discusses several different possible mechanisms of action, including among others, an accelerated osteogenic rate and a sensory neuron action potential blockade. All the available evidence seems to confirm that pa

BACKGROUND: Managing orthodontic treatment is often very difficult for the orthodontist. Many devices are used during the orthopedic phase of orthodontic treatment, always with different functions. We describe a case of orthodontic management treated with the Equilibrator O.S.A. device (equilibrator designed by Ovidi, Santi, and Aprile for Eptamed SRL; Cesena, Italy; www.eptamed.com ).
CASE PRESENTATION: A healthy 10-year-old white boy presented with a skeletal class II, division 1 malocclusion, molar class II, exhibiting an overjet of 7 mm prior to treatment. For treatment, we only used the

SYSTEMATIC REVIEW CONCLUSION: Increased incidence and severity of external apical root resorption (EARR) occurred in patients undergoing comprehensive orthodontic therapy, especially when therapy involved higher levels of force than those commonly used for orthodontic tooth movement. CRITICAL SUMMARY ASSESSMENT: Results from a high-quality systematic review of 11 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) suggests that EARR has a multifactorial etiology; is associated with comprehensive orthodontics; supports the clinical use of light forces, especially during intrusion of teeth; and requires higher-qu

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a new approach-bimaxillary miniplates-based skeletal anchorage-in the treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion compared with untreated subjects.
METHODS: The study (miniplates) group comprised 28 patients (14 boys, 14 girls) with skeletal Class II malocclusion due to mandibular retrusion, with a mean age of 11.83 years. After 0.017 × 0.025-in stainless steel archwires were placed in both arches, 4 miniplates were fixed bilaterally, 2 in the maxillary anterior areas and 2 in the mandibular posterior areas, and used for

INTRODUCTION: Achieving a harmonious soft tissue profile and enhancing facial appearance are key goals of early treatment for skeletal class III malocclusion.
AIM: To summarize the current evidence regarding the effects of Class III orthodontic treatment on facial soft tissues, and to compare various Class III orthodontic appliances.
METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted up to July 2024, using seven databases, with no language restrictions. RCTs and controlled non-randomized studies were included in this systematic review. The GRADE framework was applied to evaluate the quality of ev

Orthodontic treatment (OT) has become a means of improving psychosocial well-being secondarily to enhanced occlusal function and can help patients obtain normal oral physiologic function, coordinated facial profiles, and healthy dentomaxillofacial development. With more adult patients undergoing OT, the need for interdisciplinary treatment and collaboration is vital to ensure periodontal health. This article highlights the importance of combined efforts between periodontics and orthodontics in adult patients with a history of periodontitis who are interested in OT. Furthermore, the article dis

Malocclusion is an oral disease with a high prevalence. The goal of orthodontic treatment is health, aesthetics, function and stability. The transmission straight wire appliance and technique is an innovative orthodontic system with independent intellectual property rights invented by Professor Jiuxiang Lin's team based on decades of clinical experience, which provides a new solution for the non-surgical correction of skeletal malocclusions, especially class Ⅲ malocclusion, and it is also a good carrier for the implementation of the concept of healthy orthodontics. Due to the lack of guideline

BACKGROUND: A Class II division 2 malocclusion is characterised by upper front teeth that are retroclined (tilted toward the roof of the mouth) and an increased overbite (deep overbite), which can cause oral problems and may affect appearance. This problem can be corrected by the use of special dental braces (functional appliances) that move the upper front teeth forward and change the growth of the upper or lower jaws, or both. Most types of functional appliances are removable and this treatment approach does not usually require extraction of any permanent teeth. Additional treatment with fixe

In orthodontic practice, removable orthodontic devices are used to treat anomalies and deformations of the dentoalveolar apparatus during the period of the transition occlusion. The creation of new orthodontic appliances or the modification of existing appliances is actual today. The aim is to create easy-to-use therapeutical-prophilaxis orthodontic appliances that can be used to treat open bite and anomalies of the individual teeth position. The mechanism of action of the proposed appliance by P. Flis - V. Filonenko for the treatment of open bite (Ukraine's declarative patent No. 69548 for th

Dento-dental and dento-maxillary dysharmonies and maxillo-mandibular dysmorphologies are impairments that can be treated either by orthodontics and surgery, or with a combination of orthodontics and orthognatic surgery. Respiration, deglutition, phonation and succion play a predominant role in the occurrence of maxillofacial dysmorphologies. Contributing factors to such impairments include upper airway function disorders such as respiration, deglutition, phonation, sucking. Abnormal functions must be extensively studied in management of maxillofacial patients in order to achieve stable results

Asymmetry being a clinical manifestation of various pathologies, the orthopedic attitude greatly varies from one practitioner to another. Thanks to a better knowledge of the etiopathogenesis, the orthopedic approach in some particular cases reveals very effective, either alone or together with other therapeutics. In mandibular laterodeviations most often consecutive to a maxillary contraction, the best treatment is to expand maxilla which will allow a mandibular centric repositioning. This therapy is often achieved early to limit the asymmetric expression of growth and normalize the dental eru

A common finding in orthodontic patients is asymmetric occlusion. These asymmetries can be dental, skeletal, or functional in origin. Since many patients have typical posterior overjet the use of Class II-Class III and anterior crisscross elastics are contra-indicated. Even in skeletal discrepancies axial inclination compensation can produce relatively normal overjet in the arch. The best strategy for non-extraction therapy is to move teeth around the arch rather than an en-masse movement of the entire arch. A number of methods for unilateral distalization are discussed. Midline correction req

The orthodontic management of congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors and second premolars is the subject of this case report. The primary orthodontic consideration was the maintenance of facial esthetics in a 12-year-old boy while consolidating, aligning, and coordinating the dental arches. The maxillary canines were orthodontically positioned in the lateral incisor spaces. The maxillary posterior teeth, including the deciduous second molars, were protracted to esthetic positions where they could function without interferences. The stability of the occlusion depends on the longevity o

The author describes the clinical picture of mandibulofacial dysostosis and gives reasons for the necessity for early orthodontic treatment. Two examples are presented. The analysis of the case histories of a total of 10 patients with this syndrome showed that the responsiveness to functional orthodontic appliances is greatest in children with bilateral mandibulofacial dysostosis. The need for co-operation with other disciplines involved is pointed to.

To overcome the reliance on subjective clinical judgment and the inadequacy of international indices in reflecting Chinese orthodontic expertise and patient characteristics, the Chinese Stomatological Association developed an expert consensus on orthodontic treatment outcome evaluation. This first systematically calibrated framework tailored to Chinese populations was established through an extensive process: comprehensive literature review, analysis of the Peer Assessment Rating (PAR) and the American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System (ABO-OGS) indices and a large-scale subjectiv

OBJECTIVE: To analyze national and regional differences in assessment of orthodontic treatment needs and timing for treatment between specialists in orthodontics in Denmark and Sweden. Additionally, to map the use of digital platforms in orthodontic referral processes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A questionnaire comprising 20 items was developed to assess nine patient cases with different malocclusions and sent to nearly 500 board-certified orthodontic specialists in Denmark and Sweden. Each case was documented by clinical photos, line drawings of the head and face, and malocclusion descriptions.

INTRODUCTION: American Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Association (ACPA) teams consist of trained professionals collaborating in an interdisciplinary approach to optimize outcomes for patients with cleft palate. Orthodontic care is essential to correct dental malocclusion, guide maxillary growth, enhance surgical outcomes, and improve oral function and aesthetics. Although ACPA approval requires an orthodontist in the multidisciplinary team, the methods of delivering orthodontic care remain unclear. This project aims to elucidate how orthodontic care is integrated into ACPA teams.
