Microfluidic devices offer promising solutions for automating various biological and chemical procedures. Epoxy resin, known for its excellent mechanical properties, chemical resistance, and thermal stability, is widely used in high-performance microfluidic devices. However, the poor printability of epoxy has limited its application in 3D printing technologies for fabricating epoxy-based microfluidic devices. In this study, fumed silica is introduced into epoxy resin to formulate a yield-stress fluid suspension as a support bath for embedded 3D printing (e-3DP). The study demonstrates that inc

INTRODUCTION: Reconstruction plates, prebent on 3D printed models, are a cheap, quick, and safe solution to improve mandibular reconstruction procedures. The European Medical Device Regulation has changed recently and severely affects 3D printing in hospitals. Therefore, its legitimation must be discussed. This retrospective observational Case-Control Study aimed to evaluate the impact of prebent reconstruction plates on the condylar position in the temporomandibular joint after continuity resection of the mandible in oncological cases.

The effectiveness of 3D concrete printing (3DCP) relies on understanding the rheological properties of cementitious materials and their time-dependent evolution. These materials exhibit shear-thinning viscosity, an elastic region, and both static and dynamic yield stress, which are challenging to balance in 3DCP. Layer deformation can be caused by factors such as self-weight, the weight of subsequently deposited layers, and the stress induced by the nozzle pressing. Starting at the level of a single filament, the final geometrical conformity of a 3D-printed object is the sum of individual fila

STUDY DESIGN: Systematic Review.
OBJECTIVE: 3DP technology use has become increasingly more common in the field of medicine and is notable for its growing utility in spine surgery applications. Many studies have evaluated the use of pedicle screw placement guides and spine models in adult spine patients, but there is little evidence assessing its efficacy in pediatric spine patient populations. This systematic review identifies and evaluates the current applications and surgical outcomes of 3-Dimensional Printing (3DP) technology in pediatric spinal surgery.
METHODS: A search of publications

We present a technique for treating orbital floor fractures using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology and a preoperative template based on the mirror image of the unaffected orbit. Our patient, a 56-year-old man, experienced persistent diplopia in the upward direction and left enophthalmos after previous open reduction internal fixation surgery. To address these complications, we used a simulation of the ideal orbital floor from computed tomography images and used a 3D printer to create a template. Subsequently, an absorbable plate was molded intraoperatively based on this template. Not

In most cleft centers worldwide, nasal stents are routinely used in the postoperative period to prevent collapse of the lower lateral cartilage and maintain the shape of the nostrils as well as nasal alar. Prefabricated nasal stents are expensive and do not offer options for customization. In this paper, we introduce a cost-effective technique for manufacturing nasal stents using three-dimensional scanning and printing technology.

Although application of three-dimensional (3D) printing in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) was first reported almost 30 years back, reduction in its manufacturing cost and availability of affordable 3D printing devices have popularized its use over the past few years. The 3D-printed objects include anatomical models, occlusal splints, drilling, or cutting guides and patient-specific implants (custom made plates and reconstruction devices). The anatomical model not only assists the surgeon in better understanding of the deformity or pathology but also aids in explaining the same to the pa

We develop a poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid)/β-calcium phosphate (PLGA/TCP)-based scaffold through a three-dimensional (3D) printing technique incorporating icaritin (ICT), a unique phytomolecule, and secretome derived from human fetal mesenchymal stem cells (HFS), to provide mechanical support and biological cues for stimulating bone defect healing. With the sustained release of ICT and HFS from the composite scaffold, the cell-free scaffold efficiently facilitates the migration of MSCs and promotes bone regeneration at the femoral defect site in the ovariectomy (OVX)-induced osteoporotic rat

BACKGROUND: Advanced diagnostic imaging is an essential part of preoperative planning for oral and maxillofacial surgery in veterinary patients. 3-dimensional (3D) printed models and surgical guides generated from diagnostic imaging can provide a deeper understanding of the complex maxillofacial anatomy, including relevant spatial relationships. Additionally, patient-specific 3D printed models allow surgeons and trainees to better examine anatomical features through tactile and visuospatial feedback allowing for improved preoperative planning, intraoperative guidance, and enhanced trainee educ

A variety of factors can cause vaginal loss. The patients are suffering from great psychological and physical pain, and there is an urgent need for vagina reconstruction. 3D-bioprinting is expected to achieve vaginal morphological restoration and true functional reconstruction. The current study aimed to explore the biomimetic 3D vagina tissue printing with acellular vagina matrix (AVM) bioink. The AVM from pig was converted to bioink by 15% gelatin and 3% sodium alginate mixed with the AVM solution. Rheology, scanning electron microscopy and HE staining were performed to characterize the bioi

Structural heart disease (SHD) is a new field within cardiovascular medicine. Traditional imaging modalities fall short in supporting the needs of SHD interventions, as they have been constructed around the concept of disease diagnosis. SHD interventions disrupt traditional concepts of imaging in requiring imaging to plan, simulate, and predict intraprocedural outcomes. In transcatheter SHD interventions, the absence of a gold-standard open cavity surgical field deprives physicians of the opportunity for tactile feedback and visual confirmation of cardiac anatomy. Hence, dependency on imaging

Forensic application of 3D scanning and printing technology is gaining momentum with 3D printed evidence starting to be produced for court. However, the processes for creating these forensic 3D models requires still rigorous assessment to ensure they adhere to the relevant legal standards. Although, previous work has examined the accuracy of 3D prints created from medical grade Computed Tomography (CT), no such assessment has been carried out for Micro Computed Tomography (micro-CT) which offers superior resolution and the ability to capture forensically relevant injuries. This study aimed to

In recent years, scaffolds produced in 3D printing technology have become more widespread tool due to providing more advantages than traditional methods in tissue engineering applications. In this research, it was aimed to produce patches for the treatment of tympanic membrane perforations which caused significant hearing loss by using 3D printing method. Polylactic acid(PLA) scaffolds with Chitosan(CS) and Sodium Alginate(SA) added in various ratios were prepared for artificial eardrum patches. Different amounts of chitosan and sodium alginate added to PLA increased the biocompatibility of th

Despite great progresses in bioprinting materials and technologies, immense challenges still remain when printing tubular tissues or organs with satisfying mechanical and chemical properties, such as blood vessel, colon, and trachea. Herein, a promising extrusion system based on an interfacial diffusion printing (IDP) technique for one-step printing of tubular tissue grafts is proposed. Specifically, this technique offers great convenience to prepare hollow hydrogel fibers with excellent mechanical properties and satisfactory biocompatibility. The tubular diameter can be readily adjusted withi

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: 3D printers are increasingly used in medical applications such as surgical planning, creation of implants and prostheses, and medical education. For the creation of reliable 3D printed models of the vertebral column, processing must be performed on CT images. This processing must be assessed and validated so that any error of the printed model can be recognized and minimized.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In order to perform this validation, 10 CT scans of porcine lumbar spinal vertebra were used, which were then dissected and scanned again. CT image processing was performed

Three-dimensional (3D) printing elastomers, as a combination of transformative technology and widely used materials, have received great demand in many fields. However, commercial photocuring elastomer inks for 3D printing usually exhibit poor mechanical strength, inferior resilience, and lower elongation at break. In this study, photocuring inks that can be employed for digital light processing 3D printing are developed with acryloyl-modified polyethylene glycol (Acryl@PEG). The resultant photocuring inks exhibit not only high tensile strength of 14.1 MPa and elongation of 245.0%, but also ex

OBJECTIVES: Currently, most of the artificial airway organs still require scaffolds; however, such scaffolds exhibit several limitations. Alternatively, the use of an autologous artificial trachea without foreign materials and immunosuppressants may solve these issues and constitute a preferred tool. The rationale of this study was to develop a new scaffold-free approach for an artificial trachea using bio-3D printing technology. Here, we assessed the circumferential tracheal replacement using scaffold-free trachea-like grafts generated from isolated cells in an inbred animal model.
