Gemtuzumab ozogamicin-associated sinusoidal obstructive syndrome (SOS): an overview from the research on adverse drug events and reports (RADAR) project.

Gemtuzumab ozogamicin (GO) was approved for marketing in 2000 by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for older patients with relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Four months later, 14 phase II clinical trial participants who received novel GO-containing combination chemotherapy regimens developed an unexpected hepatic toxicity termed sinusoidal obstructive syndrome (SOS) or hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD). Investigators associated with the Research on Adverse Drug Events and Reports (RADAR) project reviewed safety reports for GO included in reports of clinical trials an

Embedded Cardiorespiratory Monitoring Using a 77 GHz FMCW Radar: On-Chip Multi-Timescale Tiny 1D CNN and Whole-Node Power Evaluation.

A 77-GHz radar can detect small chest movements induced by cardiac activity and respiration; however, typical systems transmit the acquired signals to an external computer for processing. This limits the development of autonomous and energy-efficient monitoring devices. This study presents a system in which radar signal processing, signal quality assessment, and heart rate (HR) and respiratory rate (RR) estimation are performed directly on the AWR1843 radar device. A Tiny 1D CNN used a 10-s observation window for HR and a 30-s window for RR, producing updated estimates every 1 s. The system wa

4D Millimeter-Wave Radar Point Cloud Sensing for Face Guard Detection and Cutting-Interference Warning in Fully Mechanized Coal Mining Faces.

Spatial interference among the shearer cutting drum, ranging arm, and hydraulic-support face guard is a practical safety risk in fully mechanized coal mining faces, where dust, water mist, weak illumination, and metal multipath reflections limit vision- and LiDAR-based perception. This study develops a 4D millimeter-wave radar point cloud sensing method for face guard segmentation and cutting-interference warning. Radar point clouds were extracted from ROS bag data, converted to frame-level point cloud files, manually labeled, and processed using a joint passthrough-radius filtering strategy.

Application of Air-Coupled Ground Penetrating Radar Based on F-K Filtering and BP Migration in High-Speed Railway Tunnel Detection.

As the number and length of high-speed railway tunnels increase in China, implicit defects such as insufficient lining thicknesses, voids, and poor compaction have become increasingly common, posing a serious threat to train operation safety. It is, therefore, imperative to conduct a comprehensive census of the defects within the tunnel linings. In response to this problem, this study proposes a high-speed railway tunnel detection method based on vehicle-mounted air-coupled GPR. Building on a forward simulation of air-coupled GPR, the study proposes the F-K filtering and BP migration algorithm

Under the Radar: Low Rates of Dual-Energy Radiograph Absorptiometry Screening and Associated Fracture Risk in Female Total Shoulder Arthroplasty Patients.

INTRODUCTION: Osteoporosis is prevalent in patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and affects perioperative management and outcomes, including fragility fractures. Despite guidelines recommending dual-energy radiograph absorptiometry (DXA) screening in women at risk for osteoporosis, screening before TSA remains low. With TSA procedures rising, it is important to identify factors that may contribute to low DXA utilization rates. This study aims to (1) evaluate the influence of demographic and social determinants of health on preoperative DXA screening and (2) identify predictors

X-Band Radar System to Detect Bathymetric Changes at River Mouths during Storm Surges: A Case Study of the Arno River.

Storm surges are natural events that influence the dispersion of sediment along coasts, leading to sudden morphological changes in the seabed. From this perspective, we focused our study on the analysis of measurements from a mobile X-band radar system to survey the sea state and the changes in the seabed depth during storm surges. This analysis was supported by additional information from Sentinel 2 satellite images, the Gorgona wave buoy, the San Giovanni alla Vena hydrometric station, and an echosounder survey. The survey period was from 26 to 28 February and 3 March 2020. During these days

Analysis of Signal Processing Methods to Reject the DC Offset Contribution of Static Reflectors in FMCW Radar-Based Vital Signs Monitoring.

Frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radars are currently being investigated for remote vital signs monitoring (measure of respiration and heart rates) as an innovative wireless solution for healthcare and ambient assisted living. However, static reflectors (furniture, objects, stationary body parts, etc.) within the range or range angular bin where the subject is present contribute in the Doppler signal to a direct current (DC) offset. The latter is added to the person's information, containing also a useful DC component, causing signal distortion and hence reducing the accuracy in meas

Effects of rare kidney diseases on kidney failure: a longitudinal analysis of the UK National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR) cohort.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with rare kidney diseases account for 5-10% of people with chronic kidney disease, but constitute more than 25% of patients receiving kidney replacement therapy. The National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR) gathers longitudinal data from patients with these conditions, which we used to study disease progression and outcomes of death and kidney failure. METHODS: People aged 0-96 years living with 28 types of rare kidney diseases were recruited from 108 UK renal care facilities. The primary outcomes were cumulative incidence of mortality and kidney failure in in

RADAR: A Prototype for Grounding Large Language Model Consult Support in an ACR-Structured Appropriateness Knowledge Base with Citation Validation and Abstention.

Large language models (LLMs) answer medical questions fluently but fabricate statements and citations too often to be trusted unaided at the point of care. We describe RADAR (Radiology Appropriateness Decision and Advisory Resource), a prototype retrieval-augmented consult-support pipeline that grounds an LLM in a knowledge base structured like the American College of Radiology (ACR) Appropriateness Criteria at the level of individual clinical variants. The knowledge base is synthetic (twelve variants across five topics) because the official criteria are copyrighted. The design is deliberately

Radial Artery Deviation and Reimplantation (RADAR) to Accelerate the Maturation of Radial-Cephalic Fistulas for Hemodialysis in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease.

BACKGROUND: The most common form of vascular access for hemodialysis is a native arteriovenous fistula, which connects the site of the artery to the end of the vein. The maturation process of the fistula plays a crucial role in the establishment of a functional vascular access. Radial artery stenosis is among the potential causes of maturation failure. In these cases, improving the fistula's blood flow may be difficult, as traditional surgical reanastomosis and endovascular intervention frequently fail. Radial artery deviation and reimplantation (RADAR) is a novel and effective technique for c

Non-contact diagnostic system for sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome based on amplitude and phase analysis of thoracic and abdominal Doppler radars.

Full-night polysomnography (PSG) has been recognized as the gold standard test for sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (SAHS). However, PSG examinees are physically restrained for the full night by many contact sensors and obtrusive connecting cables, inducing mental stress. We developed a non-contact SAHS diagnostic system that can detect apneic events without inducing stress in monitored individuals. Two Doppler radars were installed beneath the mattress to measure the vibrations of the chest and abdomen, respectively. Our system determines apnea and hypopnea events when the radar output amplitude

Deep learning-based automated diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea and sleep stage classification in children using millimeter-wave radar and pulse oximeter.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Due to the high cost, complexity, and workload of polysomnography, a radar-based sleep monitoring device, QSA600, has been developed as a more simplified alternative for children. This study evaluates its agreement with polysomnography for obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis and sleep staging. METHODS: This diagnostic accuracy study included 281 children (1-18 years) who underwent simultaneous polysomnography and QSA600 monitoring at Beijing Children's Hospital from September-November 2023. QSA600 recordings were automatically analyzed using a deep learning model, while polyso

Deciphering Optimal Radar Ensemble for Advancing Sleep Posture Prediction through Multiview Convolutional Neural Network (MVCNN) Approach Using Spatial Radio Echo Map (SREM).

Assessing sleep posture, a critical component in sleep tests, is crucial for understanding an individual's sleep quality and identifying potential sleep disorders. However, monitoring sleep posture has traditionally posed significant challenges due to factors such as low light conditions and obstructions like blankets. The use of radar technolsogy could be a potential solution. The objective of this study is to identify the optimal quantity and placement of radar sensors to achieve accurate sleep posture estimation. We invited 70 participants to assume nine different sleep postures under blank

GPR-GDMI: A Geometrical Dimension Detection and Morphological Inversion Method of Structural Cracks in Semi-Rigid Asphalt Pavements with Ground Penetrating Radar.

Structural cracks that develop within semi-rigid asphalt pavement structures may remain concealed beneath the pavement surface, making their opening widths, depths, and morphologies difficult to determine nondestructively. Although ground-penetrating radar (GPR) can localize subsurface reflective cracks, the hyperbolic anomalies in a B-scan, a two-dimensional cross-sectional radar profile obtained from sequential measurements along a survey line, do not directly represent the actual geometrical dimensions of the cracks. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a geometrical dimension detecti
