We hypothesized that considerable force reserve exists for the diaphragm muscle (DIAm) to generate transdiaphragmatic pressures (Pdi) necessary to sustain ventilation. Sodium thiopental in the comatogenic (but not soporogenic) dose caused hyperammoniemia in rats. Blood ammonium level increased 3-fold within 3 h and 5-fold within 18 h. The present study aimed to examine if immunization with laminin causes myositis in rats and whether the pathologic findings mirror human polymyositis and dermatomyositis. PURPOSE: The purpose of the current study is to investigate the cornea in magnesium (Mg) deficiency and elucidate the local function of trace elements.
METHODS: After delivery, mother Wistar Kyoto rats were fed a low Mg diet containing 0.1 mg Mg/100 g diet with all other nutrients and distilled and deionized water. Infant rats were suckled by their mothers for 21 days and then fed the same Mg-deficient diet. Control mother rats were fed commercial rat pellets containing 24 mg Mg/100 g diet and all other nutrients. The corneas were examined by electron microscopy at 6 weeks of age.

Cystic degeneration/spongiosis hepatis in rats has been proposed to be a preneoplastic and/or neoplastic lesion by some authors, because of its proliferative properties and persistent increased cell turnover rate in stop experiments using hepatocarcinogens, and the assumption that it can develop into a sarcoma. There is no comprehensive and reliable model available in small animals that are suitable for the study of subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH). In the study we reviewed the advantages and disadvantages of available SAH models in rats and presented our model. Experimental SAH was induced in a group of 350-450 g Sprague-Dawley rats. The stereotyped hyperkinesis referred to as pendulum movements (PM) may be found in up to 50% of the animals in stocks of Wistar rats.
