BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD) and micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and increased fracture risk. Since Panoramic image is a feasible and relatively routine imaging technique in dentistry; it could provide an opportunistic chance for screening osteoporosis. In this regard, numerous panoramic derived indices have been developed and suggested for osteoporosis screening. Jaw trabecular pattern is one of the main bone strength factors and trabecular bone pattern assessment is importan

Eugenol has been used as an analgesic in dentistry. Previous studies have demonstrated that voltage-gated Na(+) channels and high-voltage-activated Ca(2+) channels expressed in trigeminal ganglion (TG) neurons sensing dental pain are molecular targets of eugenol for its analgesic effects. However, it has not been investigated whether eugenol can affect T-type Ca(2+) channels, which are known to be detected in the afferent neurons. In this report, we investigate how eugenol can influence cloned T-type channel isoforms expressed in HEK293 cells, using whole-cell patch clamp. Application of eugen

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Dental plaque is a significant contributor to various prevalent oral health conditions, including caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. Consequently, its detection and management are of paramount importance for maintaining oral health. Manual plaque assessment is time-consuming, error-prone, and particularly challenging in uncooperative pediatric patients. These limitations have encouraged researchers to seek faster, more reliable methods. Accordingly, this study aims to develop a deep learning model for detecting and segmenting plaque in young permanent teeth and to ev

Interactions between malnutrition and infection contribute directly to the health of individuals and communities. The relevance of this concept to the practice of clinical medicine, dentistry, and public health is supported by an imposing collection of evidence from the clinic, laboratory, and field. Malnutrition can interfere with any body mechanism that acts as a barrier to the multiplication or progress of infectious agents. This includes formation of specific antibodies, number and activity of phagocytes, integrity of skin, mucous membranes, and other tissues. Some of the less definite, no

In this study, we aimed to explore the feasibility of utilizing polypropylene (PP) and natural rubber (NR) blends as alternative materials for rubber dam clamps in dentistry. The hardness of various PP/NR blend ratios was compared to the commercial product SoftClampTM. Selected blend ratios exhibiting hardness values resembling rigid plastic were further evaluated for hardness and tensile strength after undergoing 1, 5, and 10 autoclave cycles. One-way ANOVA test results found that the PP/NR blends exhibited significantly lower hardness (p < 0.001) than the commercial SoftClampTM. PP/NR ratios

INTRODUCTION: Despite the increasing use of botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) in dentistry, there is limited research on its use in endodontics, a specialty that often receives referrals for dental pain that can coexist with nonodontogenic pain. The purpose of this study was to assess whether endodontists believe BoNT-A can be useful in an endodontic practice as an adjunctive treatment for nonodontogenic conditions overlapping with dental pain.
METHODS: A 23-question survey was emailed to 3,979 members of the American Association of Endodontists. Descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis, and logis

Patients attend dental professionals with the aim of improving the quality of their lives; they want to be healthier or healthy. This may range from the relief of physical pain, discomfort, or reduced function, to managing the emotional distress of dissatisfaction with appearance. Health, according to the World Health Organisation, is 'a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity', and oral health therefore becomes an essential component of this definition. To meet these aims, dental practitioners should be concerned with the des

Dental personnel (DP) may be exposed to pathogens during dental treatment, either through contact contaminated equipment, or with blood and respiratory secretion. On the other hand, health care professionals are constantly exposed to pathogens and opportunists in their work environment. Consequently, the dental healthcare environment is connected with the risk of exposure to biological agents both for patients and dental workers, and involves a wide number of microorganisms that can be present in biological matrices (gingival fluids, saliva, blood), contaminated and/or non-sanitized surfaces,
