BACKGROUND: Scoliosis is the most common orthopedic complication of neurofibromatosis type I. Scoliosis can be occurred with two patterns: dystrophic or idiopathic-like. In adolescence, in consideration of bone dystrophy, osteopenia, and often associated hyperkyphosis, most of the authors recommend an anterior-posterior approach. According to other authors, modern instrumentations could be sufficient to sustain a solid posterior arthrodesis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten patients were diagnosed with scoliosis in neurofibromatosis type I aged between 8 and 25 years, Cobb angle of the thoracic cur

The conventional corrective osteotomy for malunited distal radius fracture that employs dorsal approach and insertion of a trapezoidal bone graft does not always lead to precise correction or result in a satisfactory surgical outcome. Corrective osteotomy using a volar locking plate has recently become an alternative technique. In addition, the use of patient-matched instrument (PMI) via computed tomography simulation has been developed and is expected to simplify surgical procedures and improve surgical precision. The use of PMI makes it possible to accurately position screw holes prior to th

Last two decades witnessed great advances in the surgical treatment of idiopathic scoliosis. However, the number of studies evaluating the long-term results of these treatment methods is relatively low. During recent years, besides radiological and clinical studies, questionnaires like SRS-22 assessing subjective functional and mental status and life-quality of patients have gained importance for the evaluation of these results. In this study, surgical outcome and Turkish SRS-22 questionnaire results of 109 late-onset adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients surgically treated with third-gener

BACKGROUND: Operating rooms (ORs) are among the most resource-intensive areas in hospitals, and optimizing surgical efficiency is crucial for cost reduction. A key contributor to inefficiency is the overstocking of surgical instrument trays and implants, leading to increased sterilization costs, longer processing times, and workflow inefficiencies. Despite its impact, instrument tray optimization has received limited attention in orthopedic surgery.
METHODS: This single-center prospective observational study analyzed the utilization rates of surgical instruments and implants in total knee art

BACKGROUND: Accurate automatic recognition of surgical instruments is important for enhancing the safety and efficiency of transcanal endoscopic ear surgery (TEES). Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2) is a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) model featuring "zero-shot segmentation", which allows it to identify objects without extensive training data. The purpose of this study was to be the first to apply SAM 2 to TEES videos to evaluate its performance in segmenting and classifying surgical instruments.
METHODS: From videos of three clinical TEES cases (tympanoplasty), we created a 684

Increasing numbers of general toxicology studies with integrated implanted cardiovascular (CV) telemetry are being conducted due to the constrained supply of nonhuman primates and demands for higher method sensitivities as per ICH S7B Q&A. However, limited information is available for the potential impact of surgical instrumentation on the toxicology data. In this study, we reviewed the reports of implanted CV telemetry studies conducted in cynomolgus monkeys from 2017 to 2022 at our facility. The instrumentation had no impact on food consumption, respiration, pulse oximetry, neurological para
