INTRODUCTION: Lateral epicondyle tendinopathy (LET) is the most common cause of lateral elbow pain. The literature on rehabilitation of the condition encompasses a plethora of interventions with most current evidence indicating that stretches and some form of strengthening are vital components. However, patient outcomes are infrequently reported further than 12 weeks from the start of therapy and it is unclear which components of a home exercise program are necessary to alleviate symptoms up to one year from the initiation of a therapy program.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The purpose of the study i

Impingement of hip arthroplasty components on soft tissues may adversely affect outcomes. An example is impingement of the cup on the ilio-psoas tendon, which has been reported in 0.4% to 8.3% of patients. Contributors to ilio-psoas tendon impingement (IPTI) can be categorised as anatomic (hypoplastic anterior wall), technical (inadequate anteversion and/or lower inclination, oversized cup, cement in contact with the tendon, and intra-muscular screw), and prosthetic (e.g., aggressive cup design, large-diameter head, resurfacing, and collared femoral prosthesis). IPTI manifests as groin pain, r

BACKGROUND: Lateral hip pain during single leg loading, and hip abductor muscle weakness, are associated with gluteal tendinopathy, but it has not been shown how or whether kinematics in single leg stance differ in those with gluteal tendinopathy.
PURPOSE: To compare kinematics in preparation for, and during, single leg stance between individuals with and without gluteal tendinopathy, and the effect of hip abductor muscle strength on kinematics.
METHODS: Twenty individuals with gluteal tendinopathy and 20 age-matched pain-free controls underwent three-dimensional kinematic analysis of single

BACKGROUND: Gastrocnemius recession has emerged as a viable intervention for patients with recalcitrant foot and ankle disorders associated with isolated gastrocnemius contracture. The purpose of this case-control study was to investigate the effects of an isolated gastrocnemius recession on pain, patient-reported function, and strength in patients with chronic Achilles tendinopathy and an isolated gastrocnemius contracture.
METHODS: Thirteen patients with unilateral Achilles tendinopathy (mean age [and standard deviation], fifty-two ± 7.7 years) who received a gastrocnemius recession and ten

BACKGROUND: Achilles tendinopathy is a degenerative process of the tendon associated with diminished vascularity, microtrauma, and aging. Nonoperative treatments such as activity modification, immobilization, night splints, and physical therapy have good outcomes for the majority of patients. However, there are cohorts of patients that remain symptomatic despite use of all nonoperative measures that eventually require surgical intervention. The present study reports the preliminary short-term clinical outcomes of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) for treatment for Achilles tendinopathy.

Calcific insertional Achilles tendinopathy can result in significant pain and disability. Although some patients respond to nonoperative therapy, many patients are at risk for long-term morbidity and unpredictable clinical outcomes. There is no evidence-based data to support the timing of operative invention, choice of procedures, or whether equinus requires treatment. This article suggests the need for a classification system based on physical examination and imaging to help guide treatment. There is an obvious need for evidence-based studies evaluating outcomes and for properly conducted sci

Tendinopathies are a major cause of disability in the athletic population; the main purpose of the treatment of these injuries is to reduce pain and improve function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of NSAIDs on leg stiffness of patients suffering acute unilateral Achilles tendinopathy. Twenty-eight eligible male athletes (aged 39.1 ± 10.3 y) suffering acute Achilles tendinopathy were treated with etoricoxib (120 mg oral once daily) during 7 days. Pain (100-mm visual analogue scale-VAS), analgesic effect (percentage of 100-mm VAS reduction), and leg stiffness were evaluated pr

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The aim of this study was to determine the exact localization of the histopathological process (bone, bone-tendon junction or tendon), and to determine whether the underlying pathologic process is predominantly of inflammatory or degenerative nature, then to evaluate the outcome of the surgical treatment of patellar tendinopathy.
MATERIALS: A prospective cohort study was performed in order to analyze the outcome of surgical treatment of patellar tendinopathy, as well as to document histopathological changes in bone, bone-tendon junction, and in the patellar ligament in 3

BACKGROUND: Morphology and vascularization of painful tibialis posterior (TP) tendons before and after an intervention targeting the degenerated tendon were examined. Functional status and pain level were also assessed.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A10-week twice daily, progressive eccentric tendon loading, calf stretching program with orthoses was implemented with ten, early stage TP tendinopathy subjects. TP tendons were imaged by grayscale and Doppler ultrasound at INITIAL and POST evaluations to assess the tendon's morphology and signs of neovascularization. The Foot Functional Index (FFI), Phy

The majority of patients with Achilles tendinopathy respond to nonoperative treatment. In patients with refractory symptoms, surgery can be considered. If paratenonitis is present, the paratenon is partially excised, and adhesions are released. Areas of symptomatic tendinosis are excised with repair of the residual defect in the Achilles tendon. An alternative for patients with tendinosis who are at increased risk for wound problems or who do not want a large open incision is percutaneous or endoscopic tenotomy. A symptomatic Haglund's deformity or inflamed retrocalcaneal bursa is excised. Aug

Lateral and medial epicondylitis represent overuse tendinopathies of wrist extensor and wrist flexor muscles, respectively. In lateral epicondylitis, a short-term therapeutic efficacy of glucocorticoid injection and limited evidence on the efficacy of acupuncture has been shown. De Quervain tendinopathy is caused by tendinous impingement by a thickened retinaculum. There is limited evidence on the efficacy of glucocorticoid injection in this condition.Trigger finger usually results from tendon entrapment beneath a thickened A1 flexor pulley. An association with hand tool use and diabetes has b

A controlled prospective randomized study was designed to analyze the effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on calcifying tendinopathy of the shoulder focused on the calcified area or the origin of the supraspinatus tendon. Fifty patients were included in the study and were treated with a Storz Minilith Sl-1 shock wave generator. The first group of patients received 4000 impulses (positive energy flux density, 0.78 mJ/mm2) in two treatment sessions after receiving local anesthesia at the origin of the supraspinatus tendon. Patients in the second group received extracorporeal shock wave t

BACKGROUND: The absence of any agreed-upon tendon health-related domains hampers advances in clinical tendinopathy research. This void means that researchers report a very wide range of outcome measures inconsistently. As a result, substantial synthesis/meta-analysis of tendon research findings is almost futile despite researchers publishing busily. We aimed to determine options for, and then define, core health-related domains for tendinopathy.
METHODS: We conducted a Delphi study of healthcare professionals (HCP) and patients in a three-stage process. In stage 1, we extracted candidate doma

BACKGROUND: Midportion Achilles tendinopathy is a common injury affecting individuals across various activity levels, characterized by pain, impaired performance, and pathological changes in tendon structure. Although the clinical examination is crucial for diagnosis and management, the relationship between pain measures and tendon pathology remains unclear, prompting further investigation into their diagnostic and prognostic value.
HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: This study aimed to (1) investigate the relationship between diverse clinical pain measures - pain on palpation, recall pain, pain pressure th

BACKGROUND: Best management for the common condition of gluteal tendinopathy (GT) has not been determined, with the lack patient voice regarding the experience of receiving treatment being notably absent. We aimed to inform clinical care by exploring patient opinions on, and experiences of, the management of gluteal tendinopathy.
METHODS: An interview topic guide was developed and validated based on a literature review, expert and patient input. Participants were recruited via social media and purposive sampling. Semi structured online interviews were conducted, and a framework analysis with

Iontophoresis is a non-invasive transdermal drug delivery technique that uses low-voltage electric current to deliver ionized medications into soft tissues. Despite guideline recommendations supporting dexamethasone iontophoresis for tendinopathies, the existing evidence consists primarily of condition-specific randomized controlled trials and single-site retrospective studies, with no published case series illustrating the real-world application of dexamethasone iontophoresis across multiple tendinopathy types within a single report. This case series describes the outcomes of dexamethasone io
