Anxiety disorders: a cross-sectional study of clinical and biological associations.

It is estimated that more than 300 million people worldwide suffer from anxiety disorders. Oxidative stress is increasingly recognized as a factor in the development and progression of anxiety disorders. This study aimed to investigate the association of psychological symptoms and oxidative stress parameters with anxiety disorders. This is a cross-sectional study that included a paired sample of adults diagnosed with anxiety disorders (116 individuals) and without a diagnosis of anxiety disorders (234 individuals). Data collection took place from September 2020 to July 2021 during the COVID-19

Psychometric Properties of the Spanish Version of the Panic Disorder Severity Scale.

The Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS) is a well-established measure of panic symptoms but few data exist on this instrument in non north-American samples. Our main goal was to assess the psychometric properties (internal consistency, test re-test reliability, inter-rater reliability, convergent and divergent validity) and the factor structure of the Spanish version. Ninety-four patients with a main diagnosis of panic disorder were assessed with the Spanish version of PDSS, the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 (ASI-3), the Panic and Agoraphobia Scale (PAS), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the B

Subgroup Differences and Determinants of Patient-Reported Mental and Physical Health in Patients With Ischemic Heart Disease: Results From the DenHeart Study.

BACKGROUND: A growing population is living with ischemic heart disease (IHD). Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are reliable prognostic tools. Studies exploring PROs are needed to identify vulnerable patients and guide targeted healthcare strategies. OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were to (i) describe PROs at hospital discharge across 3 diagnostic subgroups: (1) chronic IHD/stable angina, (2) non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (non-STEMI)/unstable angina, and (3) ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and (ii) examine determinants for PROs at hospital discharge in patients with IH

Adult HIV/AIDS patients are more likely to experience anxiety symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Among various mental disorders, anxiety disorder is commonly reported in HIV-positive individuals. Compared to the general population, people living with HIV/AIDS exhibit a higher prevalence of anxiety, with an estimated figure of 68.2% versus 29% in the general population. However, there is a scarcity of studies on the prevalence and associated factors of anxiety among people living with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. METHOD: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 320 participants at Gambella General Hospital. The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) scale, Fagerström Test

Comparative evaluation of a novel dual sensory stimulation technique for reducing dental anxiety and improving behavior in pediatric patients: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Dental anxiety can compromise children's cooperation during dental treatment. Although distraction is widely used for behavior guidance, evidence comparing dual-sensory distraction techniques with conventional management remains limited. This study evaluated the effectiveness of audiovisual and visual-olfactory dual-sensory stimulation for reducing dental anxiety and improving behavior in pediatric patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This randomized controlled trial included 138 healthy pediatric patients aged 4-7 years who were allocated equally to audiovisual distraction, v

The contributions of self-defeating philosophies, perceived helplessness, and repression to anxiety among psychiatric patients.

Four of the most influential psychological explanations for the development of anxiety attribute it to (1) repressed awareness of undesirable emotions; (2) the emergence of unacceptable feelings from the unconscious; (3) adherence to irrational, self-defeating philosophies; and (4) perceived helplessness/lack of control over one's affairs. To test these theories, the authors administered the Trait Anxiety, Denial, Irrational Beliefs, and Locus of Control scales to 190 psychiatric inpatients. Appropriate zero-order, attenuation-corrected, multiple, and partial correlations were run. Denial was

Factors associated with the dual-task cost of walking in people with Parkinson's disease.

BACKGROUND: Walking skills are negatively affected in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) when performing dual-tasks. However, the factors that contribute to this negative dual-task cost (DTC) remain unclear. PURPOSE: This study was planned to investigate the factors associated with the DTC of walking in PwPD. METHODS: Seventy-seven PwPD were included. Single task walking speed and dual-task walking speed were assessed with the 10-Meter Walking Test (10MWT). The following tests were used in the assessments: the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) for clinical symptoms, the Si

Effect of the association of continuous shortwave diathermy and Pilates-based exercises on pain, depression, and anxiety in chronic non-specific low back pain: a randomized clinical trial.

Chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP) is the most common musculoskeletal condition, which can be influenced by nociceptive, psychosocial, cognitive, and affective aspects, causing vulnerabilities and impairing the individual's ability to manage pain. The association of continuous shortwave diathermy (CSWD) with Pilates-based exercises may contribute to reduce pain, depression, and anxiety in patients with CNLBP. A single-blind randomized clinical trial was performed in which 36 patients with CNLBP were divided into a control group that received placebo CSWD and an intervention group that r

Psychometrics of the Korean Version of the screen for adult anxiety related disorders (SCAARED).

BACKGROUND: For enhanced management of anxiety disorders, early screening and accurate diagnostic differentiation are essential. The Screen for Adult Anxiety Related Disorders (SCAARED) has been developed to identify and categorize anxiety disorders, thereby facilitating timely and appropriate interventions. In line with this, we aimed to translate and validate the Korean version of the SCAARED questionnaire for the Korean population. METHODS: The original SCAARED was translated into Korean and administered to community adult population (N = 119) ages 18-45 years old in South Korea. The inter

Improving the Patient Experience in Pediatric Cystometrography: A Prospective Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: Cystometrography, despite its invasive nature, is a crucial investigation for understanding and managing the bladder in children with neurogenic, non-neurogenic and congenital bladder conditions. Results are influenced by child behaviors and artefacts, but results can be critical in developing patient-specific management plans. This study aims to assess the child's anxiety level and distress levels prior to testing, how their behaviors affect test outcomes, and the overall experience of the child and their families. METHODS: This is a prospective observational study conducted at
