[Results of optical coherence tomography of the retina and optic nerve in keratoconus].

The article reviews the results of optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina and optic nerve in patients with keratoconus (KC). This research direction is premised by the possibility that changes in the retina and optic nerve are associated with KC, as well as the potential influence of significant changes in axial eye length, disorders of corneal refraction and increased level of aberrations on the quality of visualization of these ocular structures. Results of the conducted studies were conflicting, but in all they indicated a possibility of OCT findings to be altered in KC patients.

Emerging Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Pediatric Optic Neuropathies.

Limited cooperation and attention span often lead to poorly reliable assessments of visual acuity and visual fields in children, making diagnosis and monitoring of pediatric optic neuropathies challenging. As a noninvasive imaging modality, optical coherence tomography (OCT) could offer particular utility in this patient population. OCT provides high-resolution characterization of the optic nerve head, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer, and cellular layers of the macula, all of which can be used to assess the severity of optic nerve disease qualitatively and quantitatively. Optical coherence tomography imaging of optic disc cavernous haemangioma.

Optic disc cavernous haemangiomas are either found incidentally or after presentation with vitreous haemorrhage. They are characterised by a cluster of grapes appearance to the multiple vascular saccules that make up the tumour. They are more often found in the retinal periphery but rarely occur at the optic disc. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging may be a useful non-invasive imaging modality to follow-up these lesions. We present the case of an asymptomatic 60-year-old lady referred from her optometrist with a lesion overlying the optic disc and the ensuing diagnosis of cavernous hae

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) in optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique routinely used in ophthalmology to visualize and quantify the layers of the retina. It also provides information on optic nerve head topography, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, and macular volume, which correlate with axonal loss. These measurements are of particular interest in optic neuropathies and in multiple sclerosis, and OCT parameters are now used as endpoints in neurologic clinical trials.

Optic nerve atrophy in adrenoleukodystrophy detectable by optic coherence tomography.

The adrenoleukodystrophies (ALDs) are a group of metabolic disorders characterised by the accumulation of very long-chain fatty acids in all tissues. The two most frequent ALD phenotypes are adult-onset adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN) and childhood cerebral ALD. Visual system involvement in the adult phenotype is well described as impairment of visual function and optic disc pallor on clinical examination accompanied by demyelination of the optic nerves seen on MRI. Thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell death has been described in a neonatal form of ALD. Our patient provides

Evaluation of Choroidal and Retinal Features in Patients with Primary Vasculitis-An Original Optical Coherence Tomography and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Study.

Ocular manifestations have been described in the course of various types of vasculitis. However, there seems to be no routine ophthalmological examinations for patients suffering from those diseases. To ensure holistic care we aimed to investigate any retinal and choroidal abnormalities in patients suffering from primary vasculitis. The objective was to use non-invasive methods, which would not be time- and cost-consuming, yet would be helpful in routine tests. We conducted a prospective and observational study in 41 patients (78 eyes) with 5 types of primary vasculitis, including: Takayasu's

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography of a Pale Optic Disc in Demyelinating Optic Neuritis and Ischemic Optic Neuropathy.

BACKGROUND: In the setting of a pale optic disc, distinguishing a previous episode of optic neuritis (ON) from that of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) may be difficult on clinical examination. Differences in peripapillary vascular network structures, if present, might be of diagnostic utility. METHODS: Thirty-five eyes with demyelinating ON, 33 eyes with NAION, and 81 eyes of normal subjects were imaged with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) to assess peripapillary vascular density (VD). In addition, OCT was used to measure peripapillary retinal nerve fi

[Computer tomography in drusen of the optic papilla].

Drusen (astrocytic hamartoma) of the optic nerve are a rare eye disease produced by ocular calcification (inclusions containing calcium) at the optic disc surface. These drusen can lead to eye complaints as they grow bigger; in particular, they can cause loss of vision and can also limit the visual field. Ophthalmologically, they are characterised by an indistinct optic disc and/or ectasia of the optic disc which is sometimes combined with a poorly defined optic disc margin. Differential diagnosis must take into consideration the presence of space-occupying intracranial processes. The final di
