BACKGROUND: Although early detection is critical, diagnosing vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL) remains difficult. We sought to assess the potential diagnostic value of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in VRL.
METHODS: We reviewed the clinical records and pre-treatment SD-OCT images of biopsy-confirmed VRL and uveitis patients, with primary involvement of the sub-retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and the outer retina, including acute syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis (ASPPC), chronic stage sympathetic ophthalmitis (SO), and idiopathic multifocal choroiditis (MFC).

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To summarize the recent literature on deep learning (DL) model applications in glaucoma detection and surveillance using posterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging.
RECENT FINDINGS: DL models use OCT derived parameters including retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) scans, macular scans, and optic nerve head (ONH) scans, as well as a combination of these parameters, to achieve high diagnostic accuracy in detecting glaucomatous optic neuropathy (GON). Although RNFL segmentation is the most widely used OCT parameter for glaucoma detection by ophthalmologists, new

The choroid is vascularized membranous tissue that supplies oxygen and nutrients to the photoreceptors and outer retina. Choroidal vessels underlying the retinal pigment epithelium are difficult to visualize by ophthalmoscopy and slit-lamp examinations. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging made significant advancements in the last 2 decades; it allows visualization of the choroid and its vasculature. Enhanced-depth imaging techniques and swept-source OCT provide detailed choroidal images. A recent breakthrough, OCT angiography (OCTA), visualizes blood flow in the choriocapillaris. Howeve

Since optical coherence tomography (OCT) was first performed in humans two decades ago, this imaging modality has been widely adopted in research on coronary atherosclerosis and adopted clinically for the optimization of percutaneous coronary intervention. In the past 10 years, substantial advances have been made in the understanding of in vivo vascular biology using OCT. Identification by OCT of culprit plaque pathology could potentially lead to a major shift in the management of patients with acute coronary syndromes. Detection by OCT of healed coronary plaque has been important in our under

We aimed to investigate structural retinal changes in malarial retinopathy (MR) using hand-held optical coherence tomography (HH-OCT) to assess its diagnostic potential. Children with MR (n = 43) underwent ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography and HH-OCT during admission, 1-month (n = 31) and 1-year (n = 8) post-discharge. Controls were comatose patients without malaria (n = 6) and age/sex-matched healthy children (n = 43). OCT changes and retinal layer thicknesses were compared. On HH-OCT, hyper-reflective areas (HRAs) were seen in the inner retina of 81% of MR patients, corresponding to is

Intraoperative portable handheld and microscope-integrated OCT enhance the pediatric vitreoretinal surgeon's diagnostic abilities during examination under anesthesia and surgery, particularly in children who are challenging to examine preoperatively due to young age or ocular trauma. Improved OCT-guided visualization of vitreoretinal anatomic relationships has the potential to improve surgical safety and efficiency. In retinopathy of prematurity and other pediatric retinal vascular conditions, intraoperative OCT can be critical for distinguishing between retinoschisis and retinal detachment an

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a revolutionary method in the visualization of the vascular system in different retinal and choroidal layers. During the last 4 years since the commercial availability of different OCTA devices, attempts have been made to utilize this technology in various aspects of ocular oncology from the differentiation of benign and malignant lesions to assisting in evaluation of post-treatment complications, such as radiation retinopathy. However, current OCTA technology is restricted by various artefacts and inherent limitations, some of which are more

Optical coherence tomography has improved the ophthalmic clinical examination due to its ability to more accurately characterize pathology of the eye. Optical coherence tomography is now an integral imaging modality for many adult diseases of the retina and is a ubiquitous part of a retinal practice. However, although its use in adults is well recognized, the adoption of optical coherence tomography in pediatric patients may be undervalued as macular diseases in children are relatively uncommon. Recent technological advancements have made optical coherence tomography scans quicker and more pre

We present a scheme for correction of x-y-separable aberrations in optical coherence tomography (OCT) designed to work with phase unstable systems with no hardware modifications. Our approach, termed SHARP, is based on computational adaptive optics and numerical phase correction and follows from the fact that local phase stability is sufficient for the deconvolution of optical aberrations. We demonstrate its applicability in a raster-scan polygon-laser OCT system with strong phase-jitter noise, achieving successful refocusing at depths up to 4 times the Rayleigh range. We also present in vivo

The choroid is involved directly and indirectly in many pathological conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, myopia-related chorioretinal atrophy and central serous chorioretinopathy. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has gradually become a fundamental part of modern resources in the hands of ophthalmologists. The enhanced depth imaging technique and swept-source OCT make a great contribution to conventional in vivo choroid assessment. This review focuses on the most common neurological conditions in which choroid assessment by OCT may provide help in early diagnosis and be used
