We report 83 cases of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) involving the tonsil as initial manifestation (IM). The median age at the time of tonsillar involvement was 58 years (range, 35-79 years). Most (85%) patients presented similar to acute tonsillitis. Lymphadenopathy (84%) and advanced stage of disease (81%) were frequent. With a median follow-up of 6.1 years (range, 0.5-18.4 years), the median overall survival (OS) was 11.3 years for all patients. Tonsillar synovial sarcoma is an extremely rare entity and only 9 adult patients have been reported up to now. Here, we describe the first pediatric tonsillar synovial sarcoma of the literature in a patient who presented with a 2-month history of dysphagia and snoring. OBJECTIVES: We assessed the periodontal situation radiologically according to tumour p16 status.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with a diagnosis of tonsillar cancer and availability of a digital panoramic radiograph (DPR) during a 5-year period were included in this retrospective study. The predictor variables were periodontal stability, marginal bone loss, marginal bone loss without periodontal stability and total number of teeth. OBJECTIVE: The objective of our study was to assess whether HPV-positive TSCC had better survival and prognosis rates, when compared to HPV-negative TSCC.
METHOD: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed comparing HPV status in TSCC patients. TSCC was confirmed with histopathology and HPV status was confirmed with PCR, immunohistochemistry and/or in-situ-hybridisation. BACKGROUND: Mucosal melanoma of the palatine tonsil is extremely rare. Due to its poor prognosis, primary tonsillar melanoma requires prompt recognition and treatment.
METHODS: A 62-year-old female presented with a deeply pigmented and exophytic lesion in the left tonsillar fossa. The patient underwent a partial pharyngectomy through a midline labio-mandibulotomy approach along with a left level I-V neck dissection. Between 25 and 48% of schwannomas have been reported to occur in the head and neck region; the acoustic nerve is involved in most cases. Schwannomas arising in the tonsil are extremely uncommon. We report a new case of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma of the tonsil in a 76 year old woman. A rare benign polypoid tumor of the right palatine tonsil is described in a 23 year old male. It contained dilated lymphatic channels surrounded by fibrous tissue and foci of mature fat. The features of this lesion add support to the hypothesis that benign tumors of tonsil may be hamartomas of tonsil rather than true neoplasms. The differential diagnosis of polypoid lesions of the tonsil is discussed.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) comprise 7-10% of all malignant tumors in childhood. Early systems of classification (Rappaport, Luke-Collins) have been improved with the Working Formulation. NHL are classified into low, intermediate and high-grade disease. A case of Burkitt's lymphoma is reported in which both its location in Waldeyer's ring and the age of the patient, 2 years, are rare. The disease is found in an endemic and a sporadic form. The endemic form especially is thought to be related to Epstein Barr virus infection. In 2007, human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 was recognized as a risk factor by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), where tonsillar and base of tongue cancer (TSCC and BOTSCC) dominate. With regard to the rarity of metastatic tumor of the oropharyngeal region, we report a case of tonsillar metastases from the small cell carcinoma of the lung with controlateral cervical lymphadenopathy. The review of literature and the our clinic experience confirms the opportunity for an exclusively palliative treatment as then one no survivors in such events.
