Concomitant dilaceration, transposition, and intraosseous migration: report of a patient treated with maxillary canine-central incisor substitution.

This case report describes the multidisciplinary treatment of a male with a dilacerated maxillary left central incisor and transposition of the ipsilateral maxillary canine and lateral incisor. The initial treatment plan involved removal of the dilacerated incisor with mechanical eruption and alignment of the ectopic left canine, aiming to substitute the lateral incisor for the missing central incisor. However, the plan was modified to include eruption of the canine in the central incisor region in response to progressive ectopic development and mesial transmigration of the maxillary left cani

Mesial migration of lower molars in relation to facial growth and eruption.

Mesial migration of teeth in the buccal segments is a well recognised phenomenon in the human dentition. Its aetiology is not fully understood. It has been suggested that it is, to some extent, dependent on growth changes in the lower face. The purpose of this investigation was to examine mesial movement of first molars in the intact lower arch in relation to the amount and direction of facial growth and eruption of teeth. Mesial migration of lower first molars between 13 and 18 years was measured on 60 degrees cephalograms of 22 males and 29 females with intact lower arches. Correlation analy

Management strategies for unanticipated remnants following tooth extraction: A case report.

RATIONALE: Tooth extraction is a common oral surgical procedure, yet rare complications such as retained tooth fragments may occur. These remnants - including crown fragments, root tips, or other materials - can delay healing, provoke infection, and impair oral function, posing challenges for clinicians. Because fragments may migrate extra-socket and be masked by fibrotic tissue, routine examination can be falsely negative and diagnosis delayed. This case report clarifies when and why early CBCT is warranted to localize retained crown fragments and demonstrates a micro-incision retrieval strat

A curriculum vitae of teeth: evolution, generation, regeneration.

The ancestor of recent vertebrate teeth was a tooth-like structure on the outer body surface of jawless fishes. Over the course of 500,000,000 years of evolution, many of those structures migrated into the mouth cavity. In addition, the total number of teeth per dentition generally decreased and teeth morphological complexity increased. Teeth form mainly on the jaws within the mouth cavity through mutual, delicate interactions between dental epithelium and oral ectomesenchyme. These interactions involve spatially restricted expression of several, teeth-related genes and the secretion of variou

Amelogenin enhances the reparative competence of trauma-affected periodontal ligament stem cells: implications for tooth autotransplantation.

BACKGROUND: The tissue healing after autologous tooth transplantation primarily relies on the physiological stimulation of the periodontal ligament to promote the reparative formation of cementum and alveolar bone. Previous studies have demonstrated the role of amelogenin (AMG) in periodontal repair and regeneration, but research on its effect in autotransplanted teeth remains limited. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of AMG on hPDLSCs derived from isolated teeth in vitro and to evaluate its potential to enhance periodontal and bone reconstruction following tooth transplantation in vivo.

Clear Aligner Therapy in Adults With Stage II-IV Periodontitis: A Narrative Review.

Stage II-IV periodontitis is frequently associated with pathologic tooth migration (PTM), occlusal instability, and complex restorative demands requiring coordinated interdisciplinary care. Adult patients with periodontitis increasingly request clear aligner therapy (CAT); however, its role within structured periodontal-orthodontic treatment pathways remains incompletely defined. This narrative review synthesized available clinical evidence on the use of clear aligner therapy in adults with stage II-IV periodontitis and outlined practical principles for interdisciplinary management. Association between migration history and oral health: results of the 6th German Oral Health Study (DMS • 6).

OBJECTIVES: Studies have demonstrated a significant association between migration history and oral health. Even after adjusting for confounders, migration history remains an independent risk factor for poorer oral health. As part of the 6th German Oral Health Study (DMS • 6), disease and care prevalence among individuals with migration history was surveyed at the population level. This article aims to assess the relationship between migration history, education status, and oral health. METHOD AND MATERIALS: The analyses of the relationship between migration history and various oral health out

Development of dentition: From initiation to occlusion and related diseases.

BACKGROUND: The development of dentition begins in the embryonic oral cavity and progresses in the branchial arches and alveolar bone. Continuous cellular and molecular crosstalk occurs during crown formation, after which the tooth germ begins to migrate apically through the alveolar process into the oral cavity. It eventually comes in contact with its antagonist in the contralateral jaw to establish functional occlusion. Any defect in either step can result in delayed tooth development, the spectrum of which varies from a congenitally missing tooth to an impacted tooth (infraocclusion) with a

Evaluation of the Stress Induced in Tooth, Periodontal Ligament & Alveolar Bone with Varying Degrees of Bone Loss During Various Types of Orthodontic Tooth Movements.

INTRODUCTION: The force applied on to a tooth with periodontal bone loss may generate different magnitude and pattern of stresses in the periodontium when compared to a tooth with no bone loss & under the same force system. The intensity of the forces and moment to force ratios needed to be applied during an Orthodontic treatment must be adapted to obtain the same movement as in a tooth with a healthy periodontal support. AIM: Evaluation and assessment of the stress distribution during various types of Orthodontic tooth movement on application of Orthodontic force, at various levels of alveol

Growth of the anterior dental arch in black American children: a longitudinal study from 3 to 18 years of age.

Dental arch size and form change systematically because of tooth emergence and because teeth migrate into shorter and broader arch forms in the deciduous dentition and again in the permanent dentition. The present longitudinal analysis describes changes in arch form in a cohort of 52 black American children (Nashville, Tenn) between the ages of 3 and 18 years. The anterior (incisor-canine) arch dimensions were analyzed. Incisor-to-canine depth remained static in both arches between 3 and 5 years but shortened significantly between 12 and 18 years. Intercanine width broadened significantly in b

Factors affecting root migration after coronectomy of the mandibular third molar.

Nerve injury especially inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) is the one of the complications that occur when the mandibular third molar (M3) is extracted and in case of high risk patients, coronectomy might be an alternative to tooth extraction. The purpose of this retrospective study was to analyze root migration and its influencing factors at 6 months after coronectomy in both 2- and 3-dimensions using periapical view and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). We analyzed 33 cases of root remnant after coronectomy and measured the amount of migration in CBCT. The following factors that could possibl

Inferolateral Displacement of a Maxillary Third Molar Along the Buccal Fat Pad: A Case Report and Anatomical Note.

Iatrogenic displacement of maxillary third molars is an uncommon complication, usually reported in the maxillary sinus or deep posterior spaces. Buccal displacement along the buccal fat pad is rare and may be overlooked. We report the case of a 13-year-old female patient referred after attempted extraction of a maxillary right third molar germ under local anesthesia, resulting in inferolateral displacement. Cone-beam computed tomography localized the tooth in a superficial buccal position, outside the maxillary sinus, infratemporal fossa, pterygopalatine fossa, and parapharyngeal space. Clinic

The modified lateral window technique for retrieving root stumps from the maxillary sinus: Case report.

RATIONALE: Tooth extraction is a common surgical procedure in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Extraction of the upper molar teeth may result in root fracture for anatomical reasons, leading to the migration of fractured roots into the maxillary sinus. This can cause serious complications such as oroantral fistula, sinusitis, cellulitis, and subdural abscesses. To mitigate the risk of these complications, it is important to promptly remove the root stumps from the maxillary sinus and preserve alveolar bone for subsequent prosthetic rehabilitation. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 30-year-old male patient p

EDTA soluble chemical components and the conditioned medium from mobilized dental pulp stem cells contain an inductive microenvironment, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and odontoblastic differentiation.

BACKGROUND: The critical challenge in tissue engineering is to establish an optimal combination of stem cells, signaling morphogenetic molecules, and extracellular matrix scaffold/microenvironment. The extracellular matrix components of teeth may be reconstituted as an inductive microenvironment in an ectopic tooth transplantation bioassay. Thus, the isolation and identification of the chemical components of the inductive microenvironment in pulp/dentin regeneration will accelerate progress towards the goal of tissue engineering of the tooth. METHODS: The teeth demineralized in 0.6 M hydrochl

Endovascular retrieval of a dislodged femoral arterial closure device with Alligator forceps.

The Angio-Seal (St. Jude Medical, Minnetonka, Minn) is a frequently used percutaneous femoral artery closure device to obtain hemostasis after arterial catheterization. Separation and migration of the device, leading to distal embolization and limb-threatening ischemia necessitating emergency surgery, is reported but extremely rare. We present a unique case of successful endovascular bailout management of a dislocated Angio-Seal with use of an Alligator Tooth Retrieval forceps (Cook Medical, London, United Kingdom).

Orthodontic procedures improving periodontal prognosis.

The wide range of interrelations between orthodontics and periodontology shows that besides the preventive significance in the mixed dentition, another focal point is the comprehensive rehabilitation of periodontally affected patients. With increasing experience in the field of adult orthodontics, setting therapeutic limits becomes increasingly difficult. It is impossible in principle to define in exact metric terms the probing depth or attachment loss up to which orthodontic tooth movement is feasible. The fact is rather that the orthodontic-periodontal treatment goal can be defined only afte
