A Persistent Misconception About Hip Rotation Torques During Elastic Band Sidestepping.

Resisted sidestepping is widely implemented in rehabilitation and strength training, and exercise prescription is often guided by recommendations based on surface electromyography (EMG) patterns and intuitive assumptions about how elastic-band placement and posture influence hip loading. EMG provides valuable insight into neuromuscular strategies, but it does not, by itself, specify the direction or magnitude of joint-level mechanical demand. In this opinion article, we argue that exercise prescription is strengthened when EMG findings are interpreted within a joint-kinetic framework, in which

Torque Teno Virus in Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid of Hematological Patients and Association With Pathogens.

Torque teno virus (TTV) replication is tightly modulated by the host immune response. As such, TTV viremia has been investigated as a biomarker of immune competence for monitoring the risks of allograft rejection and opportunistic infections in solid organ transplant recipients. We aimed to investigate the associations between TTV levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples (BALF) and pathogen detection in patients with hematological diseases with suspicion of lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). TTV DNA was quantified in BALF using qPCR. Linear and logistic regressions were used to st

Spin currents and torques in ferromagnetic systems with strong interfacial spin-orbit coupling.

A three-dimensional description of spin-dependent current transport across nonmagnetic/ferromagnetic interfaces with strong interfacial spin-orbit coupling is presented. The resulting current-induced torques acting on the magnetization of the ferromagnetic layer are addressed. By considering both magnetic exchange and Rashba spin-orbit interactions at the interface, the angular dependence of the spin-orbit torques in Pt/Co and Ta/CoFeB systems is reproduced. In line with two-dimensional Rashba models, the Rashba-Edelstein effect drives the strong field-like torque, with the unconventional angu

Influence of Torque Type and Bone Loss on the Stability Quotient of Two Implants with Prostheses.

Osseointegration is related to the stability of the screw and influences the success rate of implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation, as it promotes natural healing and effective bone formation, facilitating the preservation of the implant in the recipient site. Factors such as surgical technique, insertion torque, the type of recipient bone, and the macro- and microstructure of the implant can affect screw stability. The objective of this study is to analyze in vivo the influence of insertion torque, recipient bone type, and peri-implant bone loss on the implant stability quotient (ISQ) v

Field-Free Manipulation of Two-Dimensional Ferromagnet CrTe2 by Spin-Orbit Torques.

Electrical manipulation of magnetic states in two-dimensional ferromagnetic systems is crucial in information storage and low-dimensional spintronics. Spin-orbit torque presents a rapid and energy-efficient method for electrical control of the magnetization. In this letter, we demonstrate a wafer-scale spin-orbit torque switching of two-dimensional ferromagnetic states. Using molecular beam epitaxy, we fabricate two-dimensional heterostructures composed of low crystal-symmetry WTe2 and ferromagnet CrTe2 with perpendicular anisotropy. By utilizing out-of-plane spins generated from WTe2, we achi

Room-Temperature van der Waals Ferromagnet Switching by Spin-Orbit Torques.

The emerging wide varieties of the van der Waals (vdW) magnets with atomically thin and smooth interfaces hold great promise for next-generation spintronic devices. However, due to the lower Curie temperature of the vdW ferromagnets than room temperature, electrically manipulating its magnetization at room temperature has not been realized. In this work, it is demonstrated that the perpendicular magnetization of the vdW ferromagnet Fe3 GaTe2 can be effectively switched at room temperature in the Fe3 GaTe2 /Pt bilayer by spin-orbit torques (SOTs) with a relatively low current density of 1.3 × 1

A Torque Control Strategy for a Robotic Dolphin Platform Based on Angle of Attack Feedback.

Biological fish can always sense the state of water flow and regulate the angle of attack in time, so as to maintain the highest movement efficiency during periodic flapping. The biological adjustment of the caudal fin's angle of attack (AoA) depends on the contraction/relaxation of the tail muscles, accompanying the variation in tail stiffness. During an interaction with external fluid, it helps to maintain the optimal angle of attack during movement, to improve the propulsion performance. Inspired by this, this paper proposes a tail joint motion control scheme based on AoA feedback for the h

Individual differences in intrinsic ankle stiffness and their relationship to body sway and ankle torque.

When standing, intrinsic ankle stiffness is smaller when measured using large perturbations, when sway size is large, and when background torque is low. However, there is a large variation in individual intrinsic ankle stiffness. Here we determine if individual variation has consequences for postural control. We examined the relationship between ankle stiffness, ankle torque and body sway across different individuals. Ankle stiffness was estimated in 19 standing participants by measuring torque responses to small, brief perturbations. Perturbation sizes of 0.2 & 0.9 degrees (both lasting 140 m

A novel variant of torque teno virus 7 identified in patients with Kawasaki disease.

Kawasaki disease (KD), first identified in 1967, is a pediatric vasculitis of unknown etiology that has an increasing incidence in Japan and many other countries. KD can cause coronary artery aneurysms. Its epidemiological characteristics, such as seasonality and clinical picture of acute systemic inflammation with prodromal intestinal/respiratory symptoms, suggest an infectious etiology for KD. Interestingly, multiple host genotypes have been identified as predisposing factors for KD. To explore experimental methodology for identifying etiological agent(s) for KD and to optimize epidemiologic

Rate of Torque Development and Feedforward Control of the Hip and Knee Extensors: Gender Differences.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether women demonstrate decreased rate of torque development (RTD) of the hip and knee extensors and altered onset timing of the vastus lateralis and gluteus maximus during a drop-jump task when compared with men. On average, women demonstrated significantly lower normalized RTD of the hip extensors (women: 11.6 ± 1.3 MVT.s-1, men: 13.1 ± 0.9 MVT.s-1; p ≤ .01); however, there was no significant difference in knee extensor RTD. Women also demonstrated significantly earlier activation of their vastus lateralis (women: 206.0 ± 130.6 ms, men: 80.9 ± 69.

The use of skeletal extension torque in reversing Dupuytren contractures of the proximal interphalangeal joint.

Dupuytren contracture of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint can be reversed by an extension torque transmitted from an external device, the Digit Widget, by skeletal pins to the middle phalanx. This extension torque, generated by the same elastic bands dentists use to align teeth, gradually restores length to soft tissues palmar to the PIP joint's axis of rotation. Simultaneously, tissues dorsal to the joint's axis will shorten toward normal length as the PIP progressively straightens. Although the contractile nodules and bands of Dupuytren disease may be excised either before or after r

Effect of immersion in sodium hypochlorite on torque and fatigue resistance of nickel-titanium instruments.

This study investigated the effect of immersion in sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) on torque and fatigue resistance of two nickel-titanium files. Size 25 .04 ProFile and RaCe files were immersed in 5.25% NaOCl for 1 or 2 hours at temperatures of 21 degrees C and 60 degrees C. Torque and angle at failure were measured according to ISO 3630-1. Resistance to cyclic fatigue was determined by counting rotations to breakage in a 90 degrees curve with a 5-mm radius. Data were analyzed by 2-way analysis of variance. Torsional resistance of both rotaries was not significantly affected by immersion in NaOCl

Torque and EMG in rotation extension of the torso from pre-rotated and flexed postures.

BACKGROUND: Back injury is a common place in our society. Up to two-thirds of back injuries have been associated with trunk rotation. However, the torque production ability with a rotated spine and electromyographic activity of trunk muscles in such efforts is poorly understood. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to study torque production capacity of variously rotated and flexed trunk and to measure the EMG of selected trunk muscles in these activities. METHODS: Nineteen normal young subjects (7 males and 12 females) were recruited. Subjects were stabilized on a posture-stabilizing

Plyometric training in female athletes. Decreased impact forces and increased hamstring torques.

The purpose of this study was to test the effect of a jump-training program on landing mechanics and lower extremity strength in female athletes involved in jumping sports. These parameters were compared before and after training with those of male athletes. The program was designed to decrease landing forces by teaching neuromuscular control of the lower limb during landing and to increase vertical jump height. After training, peak landing forces from a volleyball block jump decreased 22%, and knee adduction and abduction moments (medially and laterally directed torques) decreased approximate
