Meckel's diverticulum is an uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction in adult life. Rarely Meckel's diverticulum is complicated by a mesodiverticular band, which is believed to be a remnant of a vitelline artery. When this abnormality occurs it is associated with high mortality. We present a case of a 48-year-old man with increasing abdominal pain and vomiting for 3 days. Meckel's diverticulum was not taken into diagnostic consideration, and the man died. Umbilical anomalies arise from fetal structures such as the omphalomesenteric duct (OMD) or urachus or from failure of closure of the umbilical fascial ring. Persistence of the OMD may lead to several anomalies including umbilical sinus, umbilical cyst, Meckel's diverticulum, or patent OMD (POMD). A POMD is usually associated with the ileum, but rarely may be with the caecum or appendix. We describe a POMD of the vermiform appendix and discuss the possible pathogenesis and management.

The eggs of Calotes versicolor were exposed to different concentrations of trypan blue around the time of appearance of limb buds. Eight chlamydial isolates of ovine origin were tested in a plaque reduction system using homologous and heterologous rooster antisera. The eight isolates could be separated into two separate immunotypes. Type 1 included isolates associated with ovine abortion and one agent recovered from the feces of an apparently normal sheep. Type 2 isolates were associated with polyarthritis and conjunctivitis. These two serotypes were not cross-reactive with several chlamydiae of avian origin. Further application of the plaque reduction test may provide a useful means of typing chlamydiae.

Seventeen specimens of the spotted rail, Pardirallus maculatus (Boddaert) (Gruiformes: Rallidae), from the southern Brazil were examined for helminths.
