Skin mycosis distribution, and burden of visits over a decade in Colombia: ecological study.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the sociodemographic distribution of dermatomycosis and the visits burden over a 10-year period of care. METHODS: An ecological study was conducted using data on visits and people treated in the Colombian Health System during 2010-2019 using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision codes (ICD-10). Departments and geopolitical regions were the units of analysis, and visit burden was reported as frequency, intensity (visits per person), and rate of dermatomycosis visits (per 10,000 visits; 95% confidence interval). RESULTS: A total of 4,570,593 visit

Phenotypic differences of atopic dermatitis stratified by age.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is common across all ages. Understanding heterogeneous age-related phenotypes may improve AD management. OBJECTIVE: To determine age-related clinical phenotypes of AD. METHODS: A prospective, dermatology practice-based study was performed (n = 380). AD severity was evaluated using questionnaires and full-body examination. Phenotypes were determined using latent class analysis. RESULTS: There were 23 (6.1%) pediatric patients (<18 years), 176 (46.3%) young adults (18-39 years), and 181 (47.6%) older adults (≥ 40 years). Both young and older adults experienc

Clinical observation and analysis of skin reactions caused by COVID-19 vaccination.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination is now an essential strategy for controlling the COVID-19 epidemic. This study included 132 cases of adverse skin reactions after the injection of COVID-19 vaccination from January 2021 to January 2022. The rate of adverse skin reactions after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were 52%, 40%, and 8% of total adverse skin reactions, respectively. The Urticaria-like rash was the most common manifestation of all adverse skin reactions, accounting for 40.15% of all adverse reactions. The Eczema-like rash was 27.27%. The rat

Prevalence of dermatomycosis in a Brazilian tertiary care hospital.

A total of 233 specimens obtained from suspected cases of dermatomycosis from 189 patients were examined for causative fungi from December 2009 to May 2010 in a tertiary care hospital in the city of Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. Yeast and fungal isolates obtained from specimens were regarded as conclusive diagnosis of mycoses in 82 cases (35.19 %), with the exception of two patients with pityriasis versicolor (2.4 %), in which the diagnosis was made only by direct examination plus clinical diagnostics of individuals. Forty-four subjects (23.28 %) were infected in

Clusterin expression in cutaneous CD30-positive lymphoproliferative disorders and their histologic simulants.

BACKGROUND: Clusterin is a ubiquitous 80 kDa heterodimeric glycoprotein previously shown to be expressed on tumor cells of systemic and, to a lesser extent, primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (PC-ALCL). Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP), an important differential diagnosis of ALCL, has been studied for clusterin expression in only a small number of cases. The aim of this study was to compare clusterin immunostaining patterns in LyP and other cutaneous histologic simulants with those of PC-ALCL. METHODS: Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections of PC-ALCL (6), LyP (20), mycosis fung

Febrile Ulceronecrotic Mucha-Habermann Disease in a 22-Month-Old Boy: A Case Presentation and Literature Review.

We report a 22-month-old boy with febrile ulceronecrotic Mucha-Habermann disease who presented with rapid progression of necrotic skin lesions and fever. The diagnosis was confirmed by histopathology, which revealed interface dermatitis, intraepidermal vesiculation, and erythrocyte extravasation. Immunohistochemistry revealed perivascular T-cell infiltration. Treatment with systemic corticosteroids, antibiotics, and antivirals achieved resolution. This case highlights diagnostic challenges and emphasizes the importance of integrating histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and prompt multimodal

Cutaneous Manifestations of COVID-19 in the Inpatient Setting.

Cutaneous findings have increasingly been reported in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This review discusses associated skin findings in patients with COVID-19 in the inpatient setting, ranging from vasculopathy-related lesions associated with high hospitalization rate and poor prognosis to inflammatory vesicular and urticarial eruptions that are rarely associated with prolonged hospitalization. We also discuss other reported COVID-19 cutaneous manifestations such as Sweet's syndrome, purpuric eruptions, and Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children. Although the relation

Demonstration of leukotriene B4 in the scale extracts of psoriasis and inflammatory pustular dermatoses. Correlation with leukocyte chemotactic activity and C5a anaphylatoxin.

We carried out quantification of the levels of leukotriene B4 (LTB4), a highly potent cell membrane-derived leukocyte chemotactic factor, in scale extracts of psoriasis and related inflammatory dermatoses characterized by sterile subcorneal pustule formation by using radioimmunoassay. A small amount of LTB4 was demonstrable even in extracts from non-inflammatory stratum corneum, but larger amounts were detected in the scale extract from pustular psoriasis and in those from psoriasis vulgaris. There was a significant correlation between the LTB4 and C5a levels in scale extracts, suggesting that

A review of the diagnosis and management of erythroderma (generalized red skin).

Erythroderma is a condition caused by several etiologies that result in red inflamed skin on 90% or more of the body surface. To optimize the diagnosis and management of the erythrodermic patient, healthcare professionals should be familiar with the underlying etiologies and treatment modalities. Patients with erythroderma require immediate attention as they may face a variety of medical complications. Early detection and effective management of these complications significantly reduce mortality and morbidity of this potential dermatologic emergency. This review highlights the underlying commo

[The effect of intensified lipid peroxidation in patients with Devergie's lichen ruber pilaris on adenylate cyclase activity].

Studies with the use of Fe2(+)-induced chemiluminescence of apo-beta-lipoproteins and electron histochemistry have revealed that PUVA therapy and vitamin A high doses enhance lipid peroxidation and activate adenylate cyclase in patients with Devergie's disease. This finding permits a conclusion on the usefulness of enhancing lipid peroxidation in order to reduce cellular mitotic activity.
