Immune responses of different COVID-19 vaccination strategies by analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing data from multiple tissues using machine learning methods.

Multiple types of COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to be highly effective in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection and in reducing post-infection symptoms. Almost all of these vaccines induce systemic immune responses, but differences in immune responses induced by different vaccination regimens are evident. This study aimed to reveal the differences in immune gene expression levels of different target cells under different vaccine strategies after SARS-CoV-2 infection in hamsters. A machine learning based process was designed to analyze single-cell transcriptomic data of different cell types from

Leiomyoma of female urethra.

BACKGROUND: Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is a developmental disorder that manifests through a range of cognitive, adaptive, physiological, and neurobiological deficits resulting from prenatal alcohol exposure. Although the North American prevalence is currently estimated at 2-5%, FASD has proven difficult to identify in the absence of the overt physical features characteristic of fetal alcohol syndrome. As interventions may have the greatest impact at an early age, accurate biomarkers are needed to identify children at risk for FASD. Building on our previous work identifying distinct

An Ultrasensitive Multiplexing Approach via Integrating Boosted Nanozyme Activity with Multidimensional Information for Antibiotic Recognition.

Most studies focus on improving the activity of nanozymes to build a nanozyme-based "chemical tongue" for the sensitive discrimination of multiple analytes. However, the construction of sensing units with multidimensional signals is often overlooked, which greatly limits the ultrasensitive identification of antibiotics and even their subtypes. Herein, we have for the first time designed the high performance of a "chemical tongue" by integrating high peroxidase (POD)-like activity Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) with multidimensional information from multiple oxidation products of 3,3',5,5'-tetr

Identification of Predictors of Mood Disorder Misdiagnosis and Subsequent Help-Seeking Behavior in Individuals With Depressive Symptoms: Gradient-Boosted Tree Machine Learning Approach.

BACKGROUND: Misdiagnosis and delayed help-seeking cause significant burden for individuals with mood disorders such as major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. Misdiagnosis can lead to inappropriate treatment, while delayed help-seeking can result in more severe symptoms, functional impairment, and poor treatment response. Such challenges are common in individuals with major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder due to the overlap of symptoms with other mental and physical health conditions, as well as, stigma and insufficient understanding of these disorders. OBJECTIVE: In this stu

Factors predicting access to medications for opioid use disorder for housed and unhoused patients: A machine learning approach.

BACKGROUND: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a growing public health crisis, with opioids involved in an overwhelming majority of drug overdose deaths in the United States in recent years. While medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) effectively reduce overdose mortality, only a minority of patients are able to access MOUD; additionally, those with unstable housing receive MOUD at even lower rates. OBJECTIVE: Because MOUD access is a multifactorial issue, we leverage machine learning techniques to assess and rank the variables most important in predicting whether any individual receives MOUD.

Does land use affect pathogen presence in New Zealand drinking water supplies?

Four microbes (Campylobacter spp., Escherichia coli, Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia spp.) were monitored in 16 waterways that supply public drinking water for 13 New Zealand towns and cities. Over 500 samples were collected from the abstraction point at each study site every three months between 2009 and 2019. The waterways represent a range from small to large, free flowing to reservoir impoundments, draining catchments of entirely native vegetation to those dominated by pastoral agriculture. We used machine learning algorithms to explore the relative contribution of land use, catchment geo
