Apple anthracnose detection by deep learning-based hyperspectral image.

The postharvest quality and safety of apples are critical to the global consumption of fruits. Early and accurate disease detection is crucial for preventing its spread and optimizing plant protection strategies. Hence, the work proposes an early detection method of apple anthracnose based on hyperspectral imaging (HSI) multi-channel feature extraction combined with deep learning (DL). Data were collected from healthy apple samples, and the inoculated apples were divided into asymptomatic and symptomatic groups based on infection symptoms. To analyze the subtle spectral changes, the extracted

High-throughput, quantitative approach to peptide epitope discovery.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: PCR-based, immune repertoire data is commonly used to assess disease features, but such data has not yet been used to discover epitopes. METHODS: This report represents the development of an algorithm that utilizes IGH CDR3s, along with adaptive immune receptor, antigen chemical complementarity algorithms, to identify candidate epitopes within known antigens. A ratio that accounts for the number of times each IGH CDR3 within an immune repertoire sample complements a particular amino acid (AA) residue and the number of unique individual IGH CDR3s that complement that s

Real-World Wrist-Derived Digital Mobility Outcomes in People with Multiple Long-Term Conditions: A Comparison of Algorithms.

Digital Mobility outcomes can serve as objective biomarkers of health, but their validation in populations with multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs) based on wrist-worn devices remains unexplored. We refined, improved, and introduced novel algorithms, specifically tailored and adapted for (i) gait sequence detection, (ii) initial contact identification, and (iii) stride length estimation from a single wrist-worn device. Validation was performed using data from 28 participants with co-occurring MLTCs performing a 2.5 h real-world monitoring session. Reference data from an established multi-sen

Potential for Reinforcement Learning in the Cerebellum.

This article explores how simple reinforcement learning algorithms might be implemented by the anatomy of the cerebellum. In doing this, we highlight which anatomical and physiological details are most important for assessing algorithmic fit, and we discuss which algorithm components are easiest to accommodate in a neural system. We describe hypothetical cerebellar implementations of four reinforcement learning algorithms and discuss the anatomical plausibility of the various components required. We show how one of the algorithms can learn to generate short sequences of actions without continu

An advanced graph algorithm-based protection strategy for detecting kilometric and cross-country faults in DC microgrid.

Low voltage DC microgrids (LVDC) are on rise, because of increase in usage of electronics-based utility loads. However, the protection and safety aspects of these grids remain unresolved due to the fault current magnitude, unnecessary tripping, and blinding of protection. In this paper, an adaptive differential protection system incorporated with an advanced graph algorithm is proposed for DC microgrid. This graph algorithm is a combination of Fenwick tree and Bidirectional Dijkstra algorithm. Fenwick tree algorithm is used to determine the network configuration and Bidirectional Dijkstra algo

[Application of spatial relative risk estimation in communicable disease risk evaluation].

This paper summaries the application of adaptive kernel density algorithm in the spatial relative risk estimation of communicable diseases by using the reported data of infectious diarrhea (other than cholera, dysentery, typhoid and paratyphoid) in Ludian county and surrounding area in Yunnan province in 2013. Statistically significant fluctuations in an estimated risk function were identified through the use of asymptotic tolerance contours, and finally these data were visualized though disease mapping. The results of spatial relative risk estimation and disease mapping showed that high risk

Adaptive EMG decomposition in dynamic conditions based on online learning metrics with tunable hyperparameters.

Objective. Developing neural decoders robust to non-stationary conditions is essential to ensure their long-term accuracy and stability. This is particularly important when decoding the neural drive to muscles during dynamic contractions, which pose significant challenges for stationary decoders.Approach. We propose a novel adaptive electromyography (EMG) decomposition algorithm that builds on blind source separation methods by leveraging the Kullback-Leibler divergence and kurtosis of the signals as metrics for online learning. The proposed approach provides a theoretical framework to tune th

Gait detection in children with and without hemiplegia using single-axis wearable gyroscopes.

In this work, we develop a novel gait phase detection algorithm based on a hidden Markov model, which uses data from foot-mounted single-axis gyroscopes as input. We explore whether the proposed gait detection algorithm can generate equivalent results as a reference signal provided by force sensitive resistors (FSRs) for typically developing children (TD) and children with hemiplegia (HC). We find that the algorithm faithfully reproduces reference results in terms of high values of sensitivity and specificity with respect to FSR signals. In addition, the algorithm distinguishes between TD and

GAPEK: A General Framework for Multiparameter Enzyme Kinetic Prediction with Adaptive Learning.

The enzyme kinetic parameters, including the turnover number, Michaelis constant, and inhibition constant, are key metrics for assessing catalytic performance. Although deep learning models have recently incorporated multimodal information from enzymes and substrates to predict these parameters, several obstacles still persist. First, current data sets suffer from limited size, inconsistency, and a lack of unified standards. Second, most existing approaches prioritize cross-modal consistency but fail to sufficiently exploit the unique information residing in each individual modality. Meanwhile

Human-inspired time-series health evaluation with an adaptive multimodal electronic skin.

Electronic skin powered with artificial intelligence could enable next-generation robotic and medical devices, yet integrating multimodal sensors and analyzing heterogeneous, multifrequency time series remain challenging. Most wearable machine learning architectures are time-invariant and trained for a specific task, limiting transfer across modalities and users. We present a multimodal electronic skin that captures diverse physiological signs with an adaptive learning framework that rapidly generalizes to unseen tasks with minimal labeled data. Our streamlined end-to-end framework uses a spec

Multi-objective optimization of dimensional accuracy and part weight in injection molding of a 3D curved shin guard plate.

Injection molding of complex three-dimensional curved components is highly sensitive to processing conditions, particularly when dimensional accuracy and packing quality must be balanced simultaneously. This study proposes an integrated optimization and decision-making framework to improve the molding quality of a commercial curved shin guard plate (SGP) by combining Response Surface Methodology (RSM), adaptive non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II), and entropy-weighted Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). Exploring an energy-density adjustment to the Nutri-Score algorithm for general foods.

PURPOSE: The Nutri-Score categorizes foods by nutritional value per 100 g or 100 ml, which may lead to poor discriminatory ability for products with low energy density and large portion sizes, like ready-to-eat meals. We hypothesized that adapting the Nutri-Score algorithm to account for variation in energy density could better capture nutritional quality, particularly in lower energy-dense foods like ready meals, without substantially affecting other food scores. The aim of this study was to perform a proof‑of‑concept evaluation of adapting the Nutri-Score algorithm for general foods to diffe

An automated detection system of autism spectrum disorder using meta-heuristic approach of adaptive LSTM with bayesian learning technique.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is one of the major neurological symptoms affecting young children. Most neurological diseases are captured through speech, voice and changes in sbrain activity. Research leading to ASD diagnosis is done in different ways; still, the early ASD diagnosis is a complex task. Various co-occurring situations may hinder Automated ASD detection, and deep learners effectively tackle such issues and create a better design. Here, a novel automated autism detection approach is proposed employing a deep learning technique with the help of brain image. Initially, the brain im

Systematic classification differences across eye movement detection algorithms.

Eye movement (EM) detection is a critical step in most eye-tracking (ET) research, typically relying on detectors-specialized algorithms designed to segment raw ET data into discrete oculomotor events. However, variability in detection algorithms and the lack of standardized evaluation frameworks hinder transparency and reproducibility across studies. In this work, we introduce pEYES, an open-source toolkit designed to streamline EM detection and enable robust, quantitative comparisons between detectors. The toolkit provides implementations for several widely used threshold-based detectors, al

A Comparison among Different Machine Learning Pretest Approaches to Predict Stress-Induced Ischemia at PET/CT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging.

Traditional approach for predicting coronary artery disease (CAD) is based on demographic data, symptoms such as chest pain and dyspnea, and comorbidity related to cardiovascular diseases. Usually, these variables are analyzed by logistic regression to quantifying their relationship with the outcome; nevertheless, their predictive value is limited. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the value of different machine learning (ML) techniques for the evaluation of suspected CAD; having as gold standard, the presence of stress-induced ischemia by 82Rb positron emission tomography/computed
