We investigated the effects of dopamine, octopamine, and serotonin on the motor output of the pyloric circuit in the stomatogastric ganglion of the lobster, Panulirus interruptus. The advantages and limitations, theory, and factors in the use of electric current to deliver drugs across the skin are discussed. Application of the technique in the delivery of local anaesthetics, antibiotics/antibacterials, mydriatics, vinca alkaloids, non-electrolytes, biogenic amines, peptides, and other agents is reviewed. It is concluded that the method alone, or in combination with phonophoresis (delivery via ultrasonic perturbation), offers considerable scope in the transdermal delivery of drugs.

When orally administered, 5-(3-diméthylamino propyliden)-benzofuro [2,3-c] benzoxepin-1, which antagonizes several biogenic amines, is slightly sedative and has also endocrinological properties in the Rat, induces the appearance of localized lesions of uterine stroma in 2 to 16% of the animals. The cytological picture could suggest a tumorogenesis. In fact, these lesions represent a non-tumoral reactional hyperplasia with nuclear abnormalities due to a hormonal stimulation.

Due to the high ability of cadmium to cross the blood-brain barrier, cadmium (Cd) causes severe neurological damages. Hence, the purpose of this study was to investigate the possible protective effect of Mangifera indica leaf extract (MLE) against Cd-induced neurotoxicity. Rats were divided into eight groups. Group 1 served as vehicle control group, groups 2, 3 and 4 received MLE (100, 200, 300 mg /kg b.wt, respectively). Group 5 was treated with CdCl2 (5 mg/kg b.wt). Groups 6, 7 and 8 were co-treated with MLE and CdCl2 using the same doses. All treatments were orally administered for 28 days.
