Hydrogen-rich water alleviates cadmium stress in Chinese flowering cabbage by enhancing antioxidant capacity, improving photosynthesis, and reducing cadmium uptake.

Hydrogen-Rich Water (HRW) is a new environmentally friendly plant growth regulator that can effectively mitigate various abiotic stresses in plants. This study demonstrated that HRW significantly alleviated cadmium (Cd) stress in Chinese flowering cabbage. Compared to Cd treatment alone, Cd+HRW greatly enhanced the growth parameters and photosynthetic characteristics of the Chinese flowering cabbage. Under Cd+HRW stress, HRW notably reduced the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in shoots. Concurrently, HRW increased the activity of antioxidant enzymes, including peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismut

Naringenin blocks hepatic cadmium accumulation and suppresses cadmium-induced hepatotoxicity via amelioration of oxidative inflammatory signaling and apoptosis in rats.

Liver is one of the targets of cadmium (Cd) bioaccumulation for hepatic damage and pathologies via oxidative inflammation and apoptosis. The current study explored whether the citrus flavonoid naringenin (NAR) could prevent hepatic accumulation of Cd and Cd hepatotoxicity in a rat model. Rats in group 1 received normal saline; group 2 received NAR (50 mg/kg body weight); group 3 received CdCl2 (5 mg/kg body weight); group 4 received NAR + CdCl2, for four consecutive weeks. Assays related to markers of oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis were carried out using liver homogenate. Blood

Strigolactone decreases cadmium concentrations by regulating cadmium localization and glyoxalase defense system: Effects on nodules organic acids and soybean yield.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

To decrease environmental and human health risks associated with crop and soil contamination, alternative solutions are still needed. The information on strigolactones (SLs)-mediated elicitation of abiotic stress signaling and triggering physiological alterations is scarce in the plant. To unravel the same, soybean plants were subjected to cadmium (Cd) stress (20 mg kg-1), presence or absence of foliar applied SL (GR24) at the concentration of 10 μM. Excess Cd accumulation causes reduced growth (-52% shoot and +24% root), yield (-35%), physio-biochemical markers, organic acid production, and g

Alleviation of cadmium toxicity in wheat by strigolactone: Regulating cadmium uptake, nitric oxide signaling, and genes encoding antioxidant defense system.

Cadmium (Cd) in the food system poses a serious threat to human health. The evidence on strigolactones-mediated alleviation of abiotic stress signaling and eliciting physiological modifications in plants is scarce. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to explore the role of exogenous applied strigolactone (SL) in alleviating the toxic effects of Cd and to unravel its physiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms in wheat. Excessive accumulation of Cd drastically reduces growth attributes (-15%), nitric oxide signaling, and photosynthetic pigments by increasing oxidative stress bioma

Formation of cadmium sulfide nanoparticles mediates cadmium resistance and light utilization of the deep-sea bacterium Idiomarina sp. OT37-5b.

Heavy metal is one of the major factors threatening the survival of microorganisms. Here, a deep-sea bacterium designated Idiomarina sp. OT37-5b possessing strong cadmium (Cd) tolerance was isolated from a typical hydrothermal vent. Both the Cd-resistance and removal efficiency of Idiomarina sp. OT37-5b were significantly promoted by the supplement of cysteine and meanwhile large amount of CdS nanoparticles were observed. Production of H2 S from cysteine catalysed by methionine gamma-lyase was further demonstrated to contribute to the formation of CdS nanoparticles. Proteomic results showed th

Ratiometric and highly selective fluorescent sensor for cadmium under physiological pH range: a new strategy to discriminate cadmium from zinc.

In a neutral aqueous environment, a new ratiometric Cd2+ fluorescent sensor 1a can successfully discriminate Cd2+ from Zn2+ by undergoing two different internal charge transfer (ICT) processes, and the high selectivity of sensor 1a to Cd2+ over some other metals was also observed. Moreover, through structure derivation and a series of NMR studies, the unique role of the 2-picolyl group (the part in red in the abstract graphic) in the sensor 1a-Cd2+ complexation was disclosed.

Acquired cadmium resistance in metallothionein-I/II(-/-) knockout cells: role of the T-type calcium channel Cacnalpha1G in cadmium uptake.

Metallothioneins (MTs) are cytoplasmic proteins that sequester certain divalent cations and are considered a primary cellular defense against the toxic transition metal cadmium (Cd(2+)). MT-I/II(-/-) knockout [MT(-/-)] cells are available and serve as an excellent tool to study non-MT-related mechanisms in metal tolerance. In the current study, Cd(2+)-resistant MT(-/-) (CdR) and CdR revertant (CdR-rev) cell lines were developed and characterized to investigate non-MT-mediated cellular protection mechanisms. Resistance to Cd(2+) was approximately 70-fold higher in CdR than the parental MT(-/-)

A tissue atlas of cadmium accumulation and the correlation with thiol-containing chelates in zucchini provide insights into cadmium partitioning and food safety.

Widespread heavy metal pollution in soils has posed serious threat to vegetable production and food security, yet little is still known about heavy metal accumulation and distribution in the majority of vegetable crops. Here, we report the generation of a tissue atlas of cadmium accumulation in zucchini (Cucurbita pepo var. Giromontial), a globally important cucurbit crop, based on two-season experiment with six genotypes grown under cadmium contaminated soils. Plant growth and development as manifested by biomass, flowering time and plant architecture were unaffected by 10 mg/kg cadmium treat

Determination of Cadmium in Brown Rice Samples by Fluorescence Spectroscopy Using a Fluoroionophore after Purification of Cadmium by Anion Exchange Resin.

Simple analytical methods are needed for determining the cadmium (Cd) content of brown rice samples. In the present study, we developed a new analytical procedure consisting of the digestion of rice using HCl, Cd purification using anion exchange resin, and then determining the Cd content using fluorescence spectroscopy. Digestion with 0.1 M HCl for 10 min at room temperature was sufficient to extract Cd from the ground rice samples. The Cd in the extract was successfully purified in preference to other metals using Dowex 1X8 chloride form resin. Low concentrations of Cd in the eluate could be

Sonochemical syntheses of a new nano-plate cadmium(II) coordination polymer as a precursor for the synthesis of cadmium(II) oxide nanoparticles.

Nanoplates of the three-dimensional coordination polymer, {[Cd(3)(3-pyc)(4)(N(3))(2)(H(2)O)](n) (1), 3-pyc(-)=pyridine-3-carboxylate), have been synthesized by a sonochemical process and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Cadmium(II) oxide nanoparticles were prepared from thermal decomposition in oleic acid and direct calcination of compound 1 at different temperatures. The thermal stability of nano-sized compound 1 was studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA). Results show that the

Elevated CO2 Drives Cadmium Phytostabilization in the Robinia pseudoacacia-Rhizobia Symbiosis by Altering Cadmium Bioavailability, Nutrient Uptake and Antioxidant Systems.

Elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide (ECO2) is a key climatic factor influencing the resilience of plant-microbial symbiotic systems against heavy metal contamination. Robinia pseudoacacia-rhizobia symbiosis shows great potential for cadmium (Cd) remediation. However, the mechanism by which ECO2 regulates Cd phytostabilization in symbiosis remains unclear. This study conducted a 90-day experiment in growth chambers to investigate the effects of ECO2 on the growth, Cd accumulation and chemical forms, as well as nutrient uptake and antioxidant system in Robinia pseudoacacia-rhizobia symbiosis. Short-Term Aging of Pod-Derived Biochar Reduces Soil Cadmium Mobility and Ameliorates Cadmium Toxicity to Soil Enzymes and Tomato.

Contamination of agricultural soil with cadmium (Cd) has become a global concern because of its adverse effects on ecohealth and food safety. Soil amendment with biochar has become one of the phytotechnologies to reduce soil metal phyto-availability and its potential risks along the food chain. Biochar, derived from cocoa pod, was evaluated in soil Cd fractions (exchangeable, reducible, oxidizable, and residual) by modified Commission of the European Communities Bureau of Reference sequential extraction and its efficacy to ameliorate Cd toxicity to soil enzymes and leaf bioactive compounds. Sodium Hydrosulfide Mitigates Cadmium Toxicity by Promoting Cadmium Retention and Inhibiting Its Translocation from Roots to Shoots in Brassica napus.

The association between hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and cell wall composition with regard to the mitigation of cadmium (Cd) toxicity in Brassica napus L. was investigated. Cd caused growth retardation, leaf chlorosis, and decreased endogenous H2S content in Brassica napus roots. Stimulating l-cysteine desulfhydrase (LCD)-mediated H2S production with H2S releaser (NaHS) markedly improved plant growth, reduced Cd content in stems and leaves, and rescued Cd-induced chlorosis. Furthermore, increased Cd retention was observed in root cell walls, indicating that NaHS reduced Cd movement from the roots to

Hydrogen sulfide - cysteine cycle system enhances cadmium tolerance through alleviating cadmium-induced oxidative stress and ion toxicity in Arabidopsis roots.

Cadmium (Cd2+) is a common toxic heavy metal ion. We investigated the roles of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and cysteine (Cys) in plant responses to Cd2+ stress. The expression of H2S synthetic genes LCD and DES1 were induced by Cd2+ within 3 h, and endogenous H2S was then rapidly released. H2S promoted the expression of Cys synthesis-related genes SAT1 and OASA1, which led to endogenous Cys accumulation. The H2S and Cys cycle system was stimulated by Cd2+ stress, and it maintained high levels in plant cells. H2S inhibited the ROS burst by inducing alternative respiration capacity (AP) and antioxida

Synthesis, structural characterization, and spectroscopy of the cadmium-cadmium bonded molecular species Ar'CdCdAr' (Ar' = C6H3-2,6-(C6H3-2,6-Pri2)2).

The synthesis and first structural characterization of a cadmium-cadmium bonded molecular compound Ar'CdCdAr' (Ar' = C6H3-2,6-(C6H3-2,6-Pri2)2) are reported. The existence of the Cd-Cd bond was established by 113Cd NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (Cd-Cd = 2.6257(5) A). Like its group 12 analogue Ar'ZnZnAr', DFT calculations showed that Ar'CdCdAr' had significant p-character in the Cd-Cd sigma-bonding HOMO.

Interference of Cadmium with the Early Development of Artemia salina.

Cadmium is a common contaminant of both saline and freshwater environments. It has no biological function but readily penetrates tissues, causing significant oxidative stress and consequent damage throughout the organism. In this work, we examined the effects of this metal on the nauplii of Artemia salina, a model for testing toxicity in larval zooplanktonic species, and to evaluate the impact of contaminants on natural populations. An environmentally realistic concentration (15 µg/L) and two higher concentrations (150 and 1500 µg/L) were used. The presence of metals in culture media and naupl
