Therapeutic-ion-doped bioactive glasses for vital pulp therapy: Linking glass chemistry, release dynamics, immunobiology, and clinical translation.

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) requires a material to control residual microbial challenge without sustaining injury in a confined, vascularized pulp, while preserving endogenous pulp cells, supporting angiogenesis, and enabling a continuous reparative dentin barrier and durable coronal seal. This critical narrative review asks under what composition-release-exposure conditions therapeutic ion-doped bioactive glasses (BGs) can provide antimicrobial and immune-regulatory effects while preserving pulp cell viability and supporting vascularized reparative dentin formation, and what minimum evidence is

The effect of hyperglycemia on pulpal healing in rats.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) may impede healing of dental pulps. In this study, the effect of hyperglycemia on pulpal healing was determined in exposed rat pulps capped with mineral trioxide aggregate. Two groups of 11 rats received injections of saline (control group) or streptozotocin to induce hyperglycemia (DM group). The pulps of the maxillary first molars of all rats were exposed and capped. Intact teeth and teeth with exposed pulps without restorations served as positive and negative controls, respectively. Histologic samples were prepared and evaluated for dentin bridge formation and pulpal

Protein S100-A7 Derived from Digested Dentin Is a Critical Molecule for Dentin Pulp Regeneration.

Dentin consists of inorganic hard tissue and organic dentin matrix components (DMCs). Various kinds of bioactive molecules are included in DMCs and some of them can be released after digestion by endogenous matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in the caries region. Digested DMCs induced by MMP20 have been reported to promote pulpal wound healing processes, but the released critical molecules responsible for this phenomenon are unclear. Here, we identified protein S100-A7 as a critical molecule for pulpal healing in digested DMCs by comprehensive proteomic approaches and following pulp capping expe

Autogenous bonding of lower incisors: case report and 17-year follow-up.

Among injuries that affect permanent teeth, the most prevalent is an uncomplicated crown fracture. Currently, autogenous bonding of the fragments is still the procedure of choice to restore fractured anterior teeth if the fragments are recovered by the patient and taken to a dental office within a reasonable time in an appropriate storage medium. There is no study or case report in the literature regarding autogenous bonding of lower incisors. This study presents a case with a 17-year follow-up for a 9-year-old patient who underwent uncomplicated crown fractures of the permanent mandibular cen

Direct Pulp Capping with Calcium Hydroxide, Mineral Trioxide Aggregate, and Biodentine in Permanent Young Teeth with Caries: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Direct pulp capping treatment is intended to preserve pulp vitality, to avoid or retard root canal treatment, and, in cases with an open apex, to allow continued root development. Historically, calcium hydroxide (CH) was the gold standard material, but nowadays calcium silicate materials (CSMs) are displacing CH because of their high bioactivity, biocompatibility, sealing ability, and mechanical properties. However, more randomized clinical trials are needed to confirm the appropriateness of CSMs as replacement materials for CH in direct pulp capping procedures. METHODS: A rando
