[Metronidazole therapy in rosacea (author's transl)].

Metronidazole was administered (500 mg daily the first month, 250 mg daily the second month and, in some cases, 250 mg every other day the following months) to 62 patients suffering from rosacea or perioral dermatitis. 90 p. 100 of them improved within 2 months and Metronidazole was particularly effective against papulo-pustules. Relapses after interruption of treatment seemed to be less frequent than with Tetracycline therapy. Side-effects (gastro-intestinal disturbances) occurred in few patients but long-term tolerance remains uncertain. So, the length of treatment was less than 6 months and

Antibiotic responsive ulcerative dermatoses in German Shepherd Dogs with mucocutaneous pyoderma.

Mucocutaneous pyoderma is a disease of unknown aetiology affecting mucocutaneous skin and is responsive to antibacterial therapy. It is reported to affect the lips, nasal planum, nares, perioral skin and less commonly, the eyelids, vulva, prepuce and anus. Three cases of mucocutaneous pyoderma are presented. Two of the cases showed ulcerative lesions in the inguinal and axillary regions in addition to more typically reported lesions. Two of the dogs had concurrent atopic dermatitis and the third had clinical signs suggestive of hyper-sensitivity disease. The clinical and histopathological feat

Epidemiological study of periocular dermatitis in a specialised hospital department.

Contact dermatitis is frequent skin pathology and eyelids are one of the more frequent locations of this pathology. The objective of the present work was to study the population distribution of periocular dermatitis, determine the allergens which most frequently indicate positive in patch tests and in provocative use tests, and analyse the clinical relevance of the positive tests.Patients with periocular dermatitis (N=93) underwent a thorough physical examination and a patch test with standard series. According to clinical suspicions, 76 patients underwent a patch test with specific series. Fi

Poppers Dermatitis®: A Systematic Review on a Unique Form of Contact Dermatitis® in the MSM Community.

There are certain demographic characteristics that may serve as risk factors for exposure to a contact allergen. Volatile alkyl nitrites, colloquially known as "poppers," are commonly inhaled by men who have sex with men (MSM) for their psychoactive and muscle-relaxing effects. They have been reported to cause either allergic contact Dermatitis® (ACD) or irritant contact Dermatitis® (ICD), termed "poppers Dermatitis®." We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science to understand the patient population, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and clinical course of poppers Dermatitis®. Our search ret

Two differing presentations of periocular dermatitis as a side effect of dupilumab for atopic dermatitis.

Dupilumab is a monoclonal antibody used to treat atopic dermatitis. Worsening of atopic dermatitis and conjunctivitis following dupilumab use are reported adverse effects; however, there is little reported on the nature and mechanism of these complications. Here, we describe two patients with chronic atopic dermatitis who developed new or severely worsened periocular dermatitis, believed to be a side effect of dupilumab injections, and resolution after its discontinuation. We explore the possibility of dupilumab-induced suppression of Th2 mediated inflammation and upregulation of Th1 and IFNγ

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of "RV2427B" cream in Irritant dermatitis care.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of various irritant dermatitis involves the elimination of the casual or favoring factor, the control of aggravating factors, and administration of topical agents. Even though corticosteroids are extensively used in these conditions to reduce the inflammation, it can also result in undesirable side effects. Hence, there is a need for a non steroidal topical agent to be used in these conditions. AIMS: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of repairing cream RV 2427B in children and adults in irritant dermatitis care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this phase III open lab

Vitamin D and oral disease relationships: Insights from a bidirectional Mendelian randomization investigation.

The causal relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and oral diseases remains uncertain due to confounding and reverse causation in observational studies. This bidirectional 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study aims to elucidate the causal relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and multiple oral pathologies while addressing confounding factors and reverse causation observed in conventional observational studies. Utilizing summary-level genome-wide association study data from the IEU OpenGWAS project, we analyzed serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels ("ebi-a-GCST90

Demodicosis: a clinicopathological study.

BACKGROUND: Demodex mites are common commensal organisms of the pilosebaceous unit in human beings and have been implicated in pityriasis folliculorum, rosacea-like demodicosis, and demodicosis gravis. OBJECTIVE: We sought to describe the spectrum of clinicopathological findings and therapeutic responses of demodicosis in Taiwanese patients. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study to review clinicopathologic findings and therapeutic responses of 34 cases of diagnosed demodicosis. RESULTS: Fifteen cases with positive results of potassium hydroxide examination, standardized skin surface b

[Infantile atypical hand-foot-mouth disease with features of eczema herpeticum and acrodermatitis].

Hand-foot-mouth disease can present atypically, including forms with more numerous lesions and/or morphologically different from the classic presentation. It may even mimic other viral diseases. We present the case of a 2-year-old child previously diagnosed with atopic dermatitis, who presented with papules and umbilicated vesicles affecting the perioral area and limbs, predominantly in pressure areas, as well as in areas with previous atopic lesions. Although he was clinically diagnosed with herpetic eczema, tests results were negative for herpes virus. However, positive entorovirus polymeras

Intraocular Pressure During Short-Term Topical or Systemic Corticosteroid Treatment: Analysis of 3 Randomized Clinical Trials.

IMPORTANCE: Increased intraocular pressure (IOP) is a known adverse effect of corticosteroid use and may lead to corticosteroid-induced glaucoma. However, clinical evidence on the impact of topical corticosteroids (TCS) on IOP is limited. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate changes in IOP during short-term treatment with periocular and whole-body TCS (studies 1 and 2) and systemic corticosteroids (study 3). DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This report includes the findings of 3 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) conducted at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital, University of Copenhagen (Denmark). The Association Between Acne Vulgaris, Acne Vulgaris with Nonspecific Facial Dermatitis, and Demodex Mite Presence.

BACKGROUND: Demodex mites can lead to various skin disorders, from non-specific dermatitis to conditions that mimic other diseases, making it challenging to diagnose accurately. Additionally, it has been reported that Demodex mites can cause skin conditions such as perioral dermatitis, pustular folliculitis, pityriasis folliculorum, blepharitis, and rosacea. Due to conflicting studies, there is a debate regarding the link between Demodex mites and acne vulgaris. This study aims to determine the prevalence of Demodex mites on the faces of individuals with acne vulgaris, acne with nonspecific fa

Allergic contact gingivostomatitis from a temporary crown made of methacrylates and epoxy diacrylates.

Occupational allergic contact dermatitis caused by (meth)acrylates is common in dental personnel, whereas dental acrylic fillings and crowns have rarely been reported to cause problems in dental patients. Here we report on a 48-year-old woman who developed gingivitis, stomatitis, and perioral dermatitis after a temporary crown made of restorative, two-component material had been inserted. The manufacturer stated that the temporary crown base paste and catalyst contained three (meth)acrylates, namely, a proacrylate, which is a modification of 2,2-bis[4-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloxypropoxy)phenyl]pr

Usefulness of dermoscopy in the diagnosis and monitoring treatment of demodicidosis.

Demodicidosis is a common infestation and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of recurrent or recalcitrant perioral dermatitis or rosacea-like eruptions of the face. We report on a 34-year-old male, who presented with facial erythema and desquamation accompanied by a pruritic sensation. Dermoscopic examination revealed Demodex tails and Demodex follicular openings, both specific features of this entity. Microscopically, standardized skin surface biopsy test was pathogenic and the patient had positive response to anti-demodectic drugs. To our knowledge, a few reports of the derma

[Basis for the treatment of eczematous diseases in otorhinolaryngology].

According to Coombs and Gell, cell-mediated immune responses belong to type IV reactions and are borne mainly by T lymphocytes. The eliciting allergens are usually so-called haptens. Haptens are substances which develop to whole antigens only by binding to protein carriers. In otorhinolaryngology, delayed allergic hypersensitivities are apparent mainly as contact eczemata. Facial dermatitis, auricle and ear canal eczema as well as perioral eczema belong to the most common forms of contact dermatitis in ENT patients. The patient's medical history and morphology of the eczema give a strong indic

Human demodicosis: revisit and a proposed classification.

Human Demodex mites (Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis) hold a high rank in the evolutionary and phylogenetic hierarchy of the skin microbiome, although in most people their presence is of no consequence. While human demodicosis is a skin disease sui generis, it can mimic many other inflammatory dermatoses, such as folliculitis, rosacea and perioral dermatitis, leading to unspecific and confusing descriptions in the literature. Here, we propose to classify human demodicosis into a primary form and a secondary form, which is associated mainly with immunosuppression. The clinical manifesta
