Mice (BALB/c or ICR) were infected with Schistosoma mansoni cercariae. After different intervals (mostly eight weeks) the following antigens were injected: a) sheep erythrocytes--b) DNP-thyroglobulin. Afterwards the immune response against these antigens were checked by means of different methods (plaque assay, haemagglutination test, rosette technique). Immune responses to these antigens were depressed in all cases compared to age matched uninfected mice but it was not possible to transfer this immunosuppression with spleen cells to normal or to irradiated recipients.

The most common reaction to fragrance materials seen by practicing dermatologists is allergic contact dermatitis. Photodermatitis is occasionally seen, as is contact urticaria, irritation, and depigmentation. Fragrances are the leading cause of allergic contact dermatitis due to cosmetics. The fragrance mixture can cause false-positive reactions; therefore, it is more desirable to test with a separate series of fragrance materials.

Dinitrotoluene (DNT) is a nitroaromatic explosive used in propellant mixtures and in the production of plastics. Isomers of DNT were administered daily via oral gavage to male Sprague-Dawley rats for 14 days to determine the subacute toxicity of individual isomers of DNT. The 3,5-DNT isomer was the most toxic isomer, inducing weight loss and mortality within 3 days. Cyanosis and anemia were observed for all isomers. Musk ambrette, a contact and photocontact allergen, is a synthetic fragrance present in aftershave lotions and many toiletries. Thirty-four patients with contact and photocontact allergy to musk ambrette were studied. All had a facial eczema. Four distinctive clinical pictures were seen.
