BACKGROUND: Hearing loss caused by middle ear malformations is treated by tympanoplasty to reconstruct the acoustic conduction system. The mobility of the ossicles plays a crucial role in postoperative success. However, identifying the location of ossicular malformation based solely on preoperative audiograms is challenging due to the complex relationship between fixation location, deformity levels, and ossicular mobility.
METHODS: Middle ear finite element models for simulating ossicular malformations were created, and the results were compared with the actual preoperative audiograms.

Benign middle ear tumors represent a rare group of neoplasms that vary widely in their pathology, anatomy, and clinical findings. These factors have made it difficult to establish guidelines for the resection of such tumors. Thirty-four patients developed the complication of deep infection at the site of a hip implant (n = 35). Multiple factors in existence at the time of implant placement and the time of presentation with infection as well as the therapeutic regimen were retrospectively analyzed. En bloc resection of the shoulder girdle (Tikhoff-Linberg procedure) is a valuable limb-sparing surgical technique for bony and soft tissue malignant tumor in and around the proximal humerus and shoulder girdle. We used contemporary methods, including early surgical intervention (usually amputation) and prosthetic rehabilitation, to treat tibial or fibular hemimelia in thirty-three patients (forty-four limbs); twenty-four patients (twenty-nine limbs) had adequate follow-up, and their cases are reported here. INTRODUCTION: Reconstruction of mandibular disarticulation defects is a challenging area of head and neck surgery, with a variety of options available for replacement of the condylar head. The gold standard is autogenous reconstruction of the condyle-ramus unit. The use of a prosthetic condylar head is controversial, but in challenging cases, and those with a likely poor prognosis it may be considered and can achieve a good functional result. BACKGROUND: The lower-extremity fillet flap is a suitable option for the repair of complex (multiple or complicated with osteomyelitis) stage IV pressure sores. If prepared from a nonfunctional extremity, it can close complex wounds and avoid the unnecessary burden of a nonfunctional organ that restricts patient movement, thereby improving quality of life.
METHODS: We used a lower extremity fillet flap for reconstruction in 5 patients with complex stage IV pressure sores. The flaps were prepared from the nonfunctional lower extremity with multiple lesions by using iliofemoral disarticulation.
