We developed a highly sensitive and specific immunoaffinity-mediated capillary blot technique for the detection of oligoclonal IgM bands in CSF and sera from patients with various neurological disorders. Pre-treatment of the samples by dithiothreitol was necessary to obtain a migration of the IgM molecule into the gel of isoelectric focusing. An investigation of the properties of TSH receptors on FRTL5 cells using affinity labelling with a 125I-labelled photoactive derivative of TSH is described. The effect of sulfhydryl compounds on binding of the beta-adrenergic antagonist (-)-[3H]dihydroalprenolol [(-)-[3H]DHA] to a microsomal fraction from rabbit skeletal muscle was examined. Inhibition of binding by a variety of adrenergic agonists and antagonists and the effects of these agents on adenylate cyclase were consistent with the beta-adrenergic receptor in this tissue being of the beta 2-subtype. Binding of (-)-[3H]DHA was reduced by incubating the membranes with dithiols such as dithiothreitol (DTT), 1,3-dimercapto-2-propanol and 1,4-dimercaptobutane; monothiols were much less potent.

A two-stage assay was used to study the effect of organic solvents on the activation of and the catalysis by chloroplast fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase. Some properties of rat skin benzoylarginine-2-naphthylamide hydrolase types I (preparations I and AI) and II (preparations II and NII) were studied.
