Implementing and evaluating a low-carbon, high-quality perioperative patient warming pathway.

BACKGROUND: Intraoperative hypothermia can lead to adverse clinical outcomes and avoidable financial and environmental costs. Environmentally preferable warming practices have been identified, including using reusable resistive blankets, extending the life cycle of forced air warming (FAW) garments and minimising flannel blanket use. This study integrates existing environmental data with best practices and quality improvement methodology to develop an optimised patient warming pathway (OPWP). This pathway was adapted to our local context, implemented and evaluated. METHODS: The OPWP was devel

Birdwatching as a Nature-Based Behavioral Strategy to Improve Adherence to Pelvic Floor Muscle Training in Women With Stress Urinary Incontinence: A Prospective Comparative Observational Study.

Background Long-term adherence remains one of the greatest barriers to successful pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) for women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Although digital gamification strategies have been developed to improve adherence, they often require electronic devices and digital literacy. We evaluated whether birdwatching, as a simple nature-based behavioral strategy designed to promote motivation through environmental cueing and habit formation, was associated with improved adherence to PFMT and better clinical outcomes in women with SUI. Methods This prospective comparat

Pro-Con Debate: Virtual Reality Compared to Augmented Reality for Medical Simulation.

Medical simulations bridge theory and practice in immersive settings. During this unique form of education, learners experience challenging medical scenarios without risking patient harm. The effectiveness of simulations stem from their ability to induce autonomic stress responses, which potentiate memory formation. Educators have adopted virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to supplement traditional, mannequin-based simulations. In this Pro-Con commentary article, we discuss the competitive advantages and limitations of VR and AR simulation for medical training. VR uses computer-ge
