Preauricular transcondylar approach for basal cell adenoma of parotid coexist with ganglion cyst of the ipsilateral temporomandibular joint.

The concurrence of 2 independent neoplasias in the ipsilateral parotid and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) region was infrequently reported. In this article, we present a unique case characterized by the coexistence of a rare salivary gland tumor, basal cell adenoma, of the parotid gland with a ganglion cyst in the ipsilateral TMJ region. A special surgical procedure was also presented here using a modified preauricular incision and transcondylar approach for extracapsular dissection of both lesions. Previously published literature are about the traditional treatment of benign parotid tumors

A posttraumatic, joint-connected sural intraneural ganglion cyst-with a new mechanism of intraneural recurrence: a case report.

UNLABELLED: Intraneural ganglion cysts are rare in occurrence and most commonly involve the peroneal nerve at the fibular neck. We present a case of a traumatically induced intraneural ganglion cyst of the sural nerve that developed after a nondisplaced posterior malleolus ankle fracture. The intraneural ganglion cyst was connected to the subtalar joint by its articular branch and ascended several centimeters into the distal fourth of the leg. It was resected from the sural nerve proper and the posterior branch of the lateral calcaneal nerve, and the articular trunk was ligated. The patient de

Ganglion cyst and olecranon physis nonunion in a baseball pitcher: unique treatment after conservative therapy fails.

Although ganglion cysts and stress fractures occur at many joints, the presence of both disorders at the same joint is rare. In this unusual case, a 30-year-old professional pitcher had been treated conservatively for presumed olecranon bursitis in his right (throwing) arm, but, when therapy failed, he sought additional care. A thorough workup and subsequent surgery revealed a ganglion cyst and nonunion of a stress fracture of the olecranon physis. The ganglion cyst had its origin at the fracture site, and both cyst and bone fragment were excised. The patient had a full recovery and was able t

Peroneal intraneural ganglion cysts at the fibular neck: the layered "U" surgical approach to the articular branch and superior tibiofibular joint.

BACKGROUND: Intraneural ganglia most commonly occur within the peroneal nerve near the fibular neck. Disconnection of the articular branch is required in their treatment. Surgical intervention can be challenging because of unfamiliarity with the region or scarring from previous surgery. METHOD: We present the layered "U" technique for peroneal intraneural ganglia with clinical examples. Dissection is carried down in parallel to the U-shaped course of the articular branch to provide optimal visualization and avoid injury to major branches of the nerve. CONCLUSION: This pathoanatomic approach

Coexisting secondary intraneural and vascular adventitial ganglion cysts of joint origin: a causal rather than a coincidental relationship supporting an articular theory.

OBJECTIVE: To introduce the clinical entity of an intraneural ganglion cyst coexisting with a vascular adventitial cyst arising from the same joint. DESIGN: Retrospective review. PATIENTS: Two patients presented with predominantly deep peroneal neuropathy due to complex superior tibiofibular joint-related cysts. In addition to having peroneal intraneural ganglion cysts, these patients had vascular adventitial cysts: one involving a capsular arterial branch, the other a capsular vein [as well as a large, recurrent, intramuscular (extraneural) ganglion]. We then reviewed MRIs of 12 other conse

Snapping Extensor Pollicis Longus Tendon Secondary to Ganglion Cyst Formation After Trapeziectomy for First Carpometacarpal Arthritis.

There is a wide variety of surgical techniques for first carpometacarpal arthritis described in the literature, but a wide range of complications has also been reported after these operations. We report a case of ganglion cyst formation causing snapping extensor pollicis longus tendon in a patient 3 months after trapeziectomy, ligament reconstruction, and tendon interposition for first carpometacarpal arthritis, which was successfully treated with simple cyst excision under wide-awake local anesthesia without a tourniquet. Adequate clearance of osteophytes and loose bodies, particularly around

Common Peroneal Nerve Palsy Due to a Proximal Tibiofibular Joint Ganglion Cyst in a Recreational Runner: A Case Report.

Common peroneal nerve (CPN) palsy is one of the most frequent lower-limb compression neuropathies in athletes, typically occurring at the fibular neck. Proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) ganglion cysts are a well-recognized but rare extraneural cause of CPN compression, especially in runners. We report a 36-year-old female recreational long-distance runner who presented with a six-month history of progressive lateral knee pain that acutely evolved into foot drop. Examination revealed severe weakness in ankle dorsiflexion and eversion (Medical Research Council grade 1/5) and sensory loss over t

Spinal ganglion cyst of lumbar posterior longitudinal ligament causing lumbar stenosis with neurogenic claudication: Case report.

This case report describes a 24-year-old male with a spinal ganglion cyst originating from the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) of the lumbar spine, an uncommon site for ganglion cysts. The patient exhibited symptoms of neurogenic claudication (NC), initially thought to be spinal stenosis, however MRI showed a cystic lesion instead, compressing L2-L3 nerve roots. The case illustrates the importance of differential diagnoses in spinal cystic lesions and highlights surgical excision as an effective treatment for symptomatic relief.

Ulnar nerve double crush by entrapment of a peri-cubital tunnel ganglion cyst and cubital tunnel: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Double crush syndrome (DCS) is a relatively rare nerve compression syndrome among peripheral nerve compression diseases. However, ulnar nerve double entrapment caused by peri-cubital tunnel ganglion cysts has been rarely reported. CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we present a case of a 54-year-old woman who experienced occasional pain, numbness and paralysis in her right half hand for 1 year. A B-ultrasound of the right elbow initially revealed cubital tunnel syndrome only. Further Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) showed a ganglion cyst near the cubital tunnel. After evaluation, we perfor

Lessons in clinical reasoning - pitfalls, myths, and pearls: a case of tarsal tunnel syndrome caused by an intraneural ganglion cyst.

OBJECTIVES: Intraneural ganglionic cysts are non-neoplastic cysts that can cause signs and symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. However, the scarcity of such cases can lead to cognitive biases. Early surgical exploration of space occupying lesions plays an important role in identification and improving the outcomes for intraneural ganglionic cysts. CASE PRESENTATION: This patient presented with loss of sensation on the right sole with tingling numbness for six months. A diagnosis of tarsal tunnel syndrome was made. Nerve conduction study revealed that the mixed nerve action potential (NAP) was

Compression syndromes of the popliteal artery due to intramuscular ganglion cyst of the biceps femoris: A case report and literature review.

Intramuscular ganglion cyst (IMGC) is a very rare lesion with an unidentified pathogeny that originates within the muscle. We encountered a case of 49-year-old man who complained of intermittent claudication in the right lower limb for 2 months. An intramuscular ganglion cyst in the biceps femoris muscle was diagnosed and located by Computed tomography angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which compressed the popliteal artery and resulted in ischemia in the right lower limb. Six months after surgical resection, there was no recurrence of the cyst and the popliteal artery was

Compression of the Median Nerve and Ulnar Nerve's Deep Palmar Branch by a Ganglion Cyst in the Carpal Tunnel: A Case Report.

CASE: A 39-year-old woman presented with a ganglion cyst in the carpal tunnel simultaneously compressing the right median nerve and the deep palmar branch of the ulnar nerve. During surgery, the soft tissue was exposed under the median nerve and on the deep palmar branch of the ulnar nerve running transversely in the deep area of the carpal tunnel. CONCLUSION: Simultaneous compression of the median nerve and deep palmar branch of the ulnar nerve is extremely rare; however, such a pathoanatomical relationship must be considered while examining a patient because these nerves are located close t

[A case of carpal tunnel syndrome caused by a ganglion cyst--diagnosis and follow-up study with magnetic resonance imaging].

We report a case of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) caused by a ganglion cyst which was diagnosed by magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the left wrist. MR images depicted a 10-mm ganglion cyst which pressed the median nerve toward the ulnar side. The ganglion cyst was punctured under direct endoscopic visualization in the carpal canal, subsequently the clinical and the electrophysiologic findings of CTS improved. The median nerve was delineated in its proper position. MR imaging of the wrist, a noninvasive means to observe median nerve, is useful for the diagnosis and the follow-up study of CTS.

Ultrasound-Guided Aspiration and Dextrose Prolotherapy for a Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Ganglion Cyst in an Avid Golfer: A Case Report.

The triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is a key stabilizer of the ulnar side of the wrist, and ganglion cysts arising primarily from the TFCC are uncommon, with no clear consensus on optimal management. We report the case of a 63-year-old right-handed male businessman and avid golfer, whose work required regular business golf rounds, presenting with several months of persistent left ulnar-sided wrist pain that worsened during golf swings when not using a brace. Physical examination revealed a positive ulnar fovea sign and pain with grip strength testing. Radiographs demonstrated neutral

Residual Wrist Pain and Cyst Recurrence Following Removal of Dorsal Ganglion With and Without Posterior Interosseous Nerve Neurectomy.

PURPOSE: Pain from dorsal wrist ganglion cysts may result from irritation of the terminal branch of the posterior interosseous nerve. Excision of this branch is often used to treat wrist pain from various etiologies, including recurrent dorsal wrist cysts. This study examines the effect of performing concurrent posterior interosseous nerve neurectomy (PINN) during primary cyst excision. We hypothesize that concurrent PINN reduces postoperative pain and lowers the need for repeat cyst excision compared with excision alone. METHODS: A retrospective chart review identified 173 patients who under
