The efficiency of a new bioartificial liver (BAL) containing small tissue fragments in the treatment of acute hepatic failure induced by carbon tetrachloride in rats was evaluated. β-CD conjugated magnetic nanoparticles that serve as a hemoadsorbent for diazepam removal are fabricated. The diazepam is arrested by the conjugated β-CD and then the adsorbed diazepam is efficiently removed by an external magnetic field. We report a case of cupric sulfate intoxication complicated by hemolytic anemia, hepato-renal damage and acute rhabdomyolysis. The patient was successfully treated with dimercaprol, penicillamine, direct hemoperfusion and hemodiafiltration. Conventional hemodialysis and hemoperfusion have been used for life-threatening phenobarbital poisoning. We report the successful use of continuous renal replacement therapy in a case of severe phenobarbital poisoning associated with severe coma and hypotension. Use of this modality led to clearance of phenobarbital with improvement in the clinical status of the patient.

OBJECTIVE: CytoSorb (CS) hemoadsorption is increasingly used in critical care and cardiac surgery to remove inflammatory mediators and select drugs. This systematic review aimed to summarize available evidence on intentional drug removal as well as unintentional drug removal during CS therapy.

Complex therapy, using hemosorption in combination with hemodialysis and hyperbaric oxygenation, was suggested for the treatment of patients with terminal stages of icterohemorrhagic leptospirosis. Such complex therapy decreased the mortality rate of patients with terminal stages of icterohemorrhagic leptospirosis from 76-96% to 18-22% and reduced the in-hospital stay from 60-80 to 35-40 days.

We report two suicidal cases of acute methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) poisoning.
