A 4-year-old boy presented with consumptive coagulopathy suspected to be due to Kasabach-Merritt syndrome. Localization of homologous indium-111 platelets in the region of the right sacral ala confirmed that this was the site of disease and facilitated radiation treatment, which proved to be curative.

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) caused by Aspergillus fumigatus remains a clinical challenge due to limited therapies and rising antifungal resistance. Here, we evaluated nitroxoline (NTX), an FDA-approved 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative, for its antifungal potential and mechanism of action. The rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a growing health concern. New treatments are urgently needed as resistance to last-line antibiotics increases. The effect of clioquinol on regeneration of myelinated fibers of the sural nerve in rats was studied. Clioquinol suspended in polyethylen glycol (300 mg/kg body weight/day, test) and polyethylen glycol only (control) were administered for 14 and 21 days starting 7 days before the nerve crush. The number of regenerating myelinated fibers was examined histologically at 7 and 14 days after the nerve crush. Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are the two pathogens that colonize the airway of cystic fibrosis patients. As patients age, P. aeruginosa outcompetes S. aureus to become the predominant organism in the airway, which overlaps with worsening symptoms.
