OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence, mechanism, and potential protective strategies for pelvic fixation failure (PFF) within 2 years after adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery.

A 51-year-old man with 30-year neurofibromatosis and 2-month elevated prostate-specific antigen and back pain underwent a Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET/CT scan for possible prostate cancer. Prostate-specific membrane antigen PET/CT imaging showed no abnormal uptake of the prostate. However, in addition to PSMA uptake in his left lung, thorax, and right ilium, which was confirmed being a lung squamous cell carcinoma by a lung biopsy, widespread uptake was also observed in his skin fibroma lesions. This case demonstrates that benign neurofibromatosis could have uptake of PSMA.

We report a case of a metastatic intrapelvic tumor arising from esophageal cancer. The patient, a 74-year-old man, visited our hospital with the chief complaint of gross hematuria. Total hip replacement for adults with unreduced congenital dislocation presents a difficult problem because soft-tissue contractures usually prevent sitting at the normal anatomical level. A patient presented with pain in the right lower back, radiating down the right leg. Initial pelvic X-rays did not reveal any lesion. We have described a technique for harvesting cancellous bone from the ilium that is minimally invasive and safe. This technique results in minimal donor-site morbidity, is quick and easy to perform without the need for special equipment or instruments, and allows a two-team operative approach. The triple osteotomy of the innominate bone is a total redirectional reconstruction and is obtained by circum-acetabular osteotomies through the ilium, ischium and pubis. The method achieves coverage of a dislocated or subluxated femoral head where other iliac osteotomies are ineffective or incomplete. The Salter innominate osteotomy is useful in the treatment of congenital dislocation and subluxation of the hip after the age of 18 months.
